The kill

Song: Cruel World by Tommee Profitt ft. Sam Tinnesz

I lay low on the cold hard ground. The morning sun is just about to rise over the horizon. I have been waiting with great patience for the right timing to take the shot. My father lies right beside me coaching me to wait. "Wait for it...wait till it's completely in your sight...you want the perfect kill. One solid shot and bring him down. You got this son you are ready."

I hear the family of deer come walking through just a few yards in front of me. I watch as the mother deer keeps looking around to make sure they are safe to venture out. She doesn't spot me as I blend into the surroundings wearing the camouflage. I hold the gun with both hands and look through the scoop.

At just the right time I aim and pull the trigger without taking a second guess. I shoot the deer right through the side of the head. His whole body jumps and then starts to jerk uncontrollably then falls right over to the cold hard ground as the rest of the deer take off into the woods.

My father pats me on the back. "That's my boy. You are getting better at this." He looks over me with a huge grin and I know he is proud of the man that I am becoming...even if I am only sixteen.

I have been coming out to the woods ever since I was little and the first few times were hard but over time I get better at shooting. The very first time that I took a life of another living thing I almost started to cry. My dad told me to toughen up that is just the way the world was. You live you die...

I stand up and walk over to the lifeless deer and look down at him. His eyes are wide open and it's like he is looking at me. I bend down and pick it up. I carry it all the way over to the four-wheeler and throw him on the back and then we both ride out. I was actually excited to get back home where it was a little warmer even though I am not finished with the task. I unload the deer and place him on the hook in the back part of the garage and thankfully that is all I need to do.

My dad has Jack gut him and clean him out. He breaks the deer down like it is nothing. I have watched him a few times but my dad says that I really don't need to worry about the clean up. So I watch for a few seconds and then go on upstairs to my room.

I jump in the shower and then get dressed. My phone starts to go off. I pick it up and its Jasper one of my closest friends. We are so close that he is more like a brother to me than a friend. "Hey man what is going on?"

"We are waiting on you. I thought we were hanging out today at the Zone."He sounds a little frustrated as he waits for me.

The Zone is a place where you can shoot each other with paint balls...or you can do laser inside if you too woosy to get hit with the paint balls. We usually go every Saturday to play around. While they are playing around, I take it very seriously. I want to be good at shooting and if I am going to shoot you, I want to take you down the first time. "Yeah...man...I'm almost ready. My dad had me out in the woods this morning."

"Again?" He asks like he already knows the answer so why does he even bother to ask such a stupid question. "Well did you get anything?"

"Hell yeah man...I got an eight point buck. You should have seen him going down." I smirk out loud, proud of my kill.

I hear him laugh. "Yeah...well you going down once you get your sweet ass here."

"Bring it on man. Let me get off of here and I will see you in about thirty."I click the phone off and then slide it into my back pocket as I head to the closet to get out a pair of my black boots.

When I come back out Meagan is jumping up and down on my bed. "Get out of my room you little shit."

"I'm telling mom you said a bad word." She yells as she continues to jump up and down.

"So help me you little brat...get out of my room." I walk over to the bed and grab her by the arm when she comes back down from jumping and then I yank her hard off the bed.

She screams out in pain. "I'm telling mom...I'm telling mom."

"Yeah...well go tell her you little brat see if I give a shit." I pull her to the door and shove her out of my room then I close the door right in front of her. I seriously don't care if she tells them. A part of me wonders why my parents wanted another kid. I was doing great until she came along. We are almost eight years apart for crying out loud.

Before her my parents gave me everything. I had it all...ok I kind of still do except now with her here they baby the shit out of her. I just know if I don't hurry up and get out of here one of them will be up here yelling at me for laying my hands on her. As I am walking down the stairs I hear my mother calling from the living room. "Makhi...get in here."

I peek through the door way. "Yes ma'am."

"Did you hit your sister?"

"No ma'am...she was in my room and I told her nicely to get out. I told you guys that I don't like her in my room. She has no business in there."

My mom looks over at Meagan. "Honey...were you in Mekhi's room?"She starts to shake her head no and I glare at her. She quickly nods yes because she knows that I can kick her ass for lying later.

"How many times have we told you to stay out of his room? Now you tell your brother you are sorry for intruding in on his personal space."

"I'm sorry." She starts to pout and my mom is hugging her in seconds.

I turn to walk out but she stops me. "Excuse me...you can also apologize to your sister. Just because she is in your room doesn't give you the right to lay your hands on her."

"Are you serious...fine...I'm sorry for touching you...but next time stay out of my room." I turn to leave and she stops me again.

"And where are you off to in such a hurry?"

"Mom...its Saturday you know that I meet up with my friends. I will be back before ten." I don't say anything else as I grab my car keys off of the key rack in the doorway and head out.

Fifteen minutes later I am at the Zone and getting out of my car. I grab my gun case and my bag with all my gear inside of it and walk inside. The cool things about this place if you don't own your own gun you can rent one of theirs but I have my own so they let me bring it in. I sit down and add the chest protector and the rest of the pads then I throw on my helmet. The guys are ready to go.

We get out on the course and I feel at home here. My dad got me coming her when I was little. He always won though and always made a point to hit me right where it hurts where there was less gear. He always said that it would just toughen me up. I run in and out of the obstacle course and take out a few of the guys on the other team. Each one I hit right in the chest. I enjoy watching the red paint splatter on their chest. It looks almost like blood and I can't wait to get my real kill. I hear something fly by me and spatter on the bale of hay next to me in blue. It was so close to me but thankfully it misses me. I turn quickly and aim right at the guy trying to take me out. I don't think twice before pulling the trigger and taking him out of the game. In the end...my team wins. We always win.

Afterwards we head down to the mall and walk around. The four of us go into Dave and Busters and get more competitive with shooting at zombies, aliens and other games. While playing Jasper spots two girls off to the side playing on the dance pad and before you know it we are all sitting around at a booth eating pizza.

"I bet I can beat you on the racing game." The cute little blonde says as her face lights up.

"You're on." I tell her; I'm always up for a challenge.  I jump up and walk by her side over to the game and we both sit down at the same time.

I stomp her ass and she gets a little upset."I think we should play a different game." I kept winning and she huffs all upset. "How do you always win...this is so not fair?"

"Nothing is fair sweetheart...and I'm not going to just let you win."

"Uhm....well." She looks around the room for a second. "I bet I can beat you on the dance pad."

I shake my head. This girl is never going to give up. I start to smirk. "You know you are probably right about that."

She grabs my hand and pulls me over to the game. She jumps on and enters two dollars and the music comes on and she starts dancing. I try to keep up with her but there is no use...she kicks my ass. And not only does she kick my ass the first time but she does the second time to. I will say it's the only time that I ever let anyone beat me.
