Hard Day

WARNING: Death, Suicide, Self-blaming, Cop Trauma, Trauma (All of this is not in too much detail!)
~~~~~~~~~~
Also! I'm trying a different form for this one! It won't have the Younger Justice League in it, but still a cuddle oneshot!
Richard Grayson was a sensitive, caring man.
He was also a Rookie with the Blüdhaven Police Department.
And he just saw his first deaths on the job.
He came in to find the assailant holding a gun to his hostage.
Richard tried his best to talk the assailant to putting the gun down and letting the hostage go.
Least to say, Dick's attempts went awry.
Not only did the hostage get a gunshot to the head, but the assailant decided to kill himself too.
All right in front of Richard.
Amy tried to tell him that it wasn't his fault, that he tried his best and sometimes you can't save everyone.
But Dick couldn't help but blame himself.
He was Nightwing for goodness sake! He should have been able to detain the assailant. He should have done something.
But he couldn't as Dick Grayson. Richard Grayson was a Rookie cop. One who was just learning everything about being a cop. There was no way Dick could do anything without blowing his cover.
But he still felt as if he should have...
Bruce Wayne just got off his work day at Wayne Enterprises and came home to a surprise when Alfred pulled into the garage.
Dick's motorcycle was here.
Damian still had an hour left of school and Tim as well.
Jason was in his safe house doing who knows what.
So why was Dick here early? Especially when he lived in an apartment in Blüdhaven.
Bruce was going to find out soon.
~~~~~~~~

He found Richard laying on his side, staring blankly at the wall in the entertainment room.

Nothing was on, not the tv, not the music playing, nothing.

Dick was just staring at the wall.

"Dickie?" Bruce softly tried to get his attention.

Richard didn't seem like he heard.

Bruce approached him slowly and a bit cautiously.

"Dickie?" Bruce softly shook his shoulder. He was close enough to see tear tracks on Richard's face.

Richard looked up a bit startled, but quickly sat up, wiping away some tears.

"Hey Bruce!" Richard put on a fake smile and tried to seem happy.

"You want to talk about it?" Bruce asked, taking a seat next to Dick.

"I... I... I just had a really rough day at work." Richard said.

"Yeah?" Bruce lightly pushed him to talk and opened his arms.

Dick took the opportunity to cuddle on up to Bruce.

"Yeah, I tried to talk someone from murder someone and then when I failed, he killed himself too. I let two people die today." Richard started crying again.

"Richard, what did I tell you when you first started as Robin?" Bruce held Dick close.

"What? You said a lot." Richard asked, joking slightly.

"You can't save everyone. I know you want to and you want to try, but it's impossible." Bruce said, hugging Dick and pulling a blanket around them.

"I know, but it still hurts. I tried to talk him from doing it and it didn't work. I couldn't do it. I failed them." Richard said.

"Dickie, I know it hurts. But you can't save everyone. I hate to admit that, but you just can't. Everyone loses people at some point. Superman wasn't strong enough to save others. Flash wasn't fast enough at one point. We've all lost someone in our line of work. It happens. As long as you tried, that's what matters." Bruce said.

Richard just cuddled closer to Bruce.

"I'm sorry this happened Dick, but you're a cop now. You're going to see that a lot in your line of work. Especially in Blüdhaven. Heck, if you worked here, well, you know how Gotham is." Bruce said.

"I know, I just... I guess I might have glazed over that cops see a lot more deaths and traumas first-hand. Wereas we as vigilantes, we're better equipped to stop it. We don't have to hide behind human limits." Dick said.

"Dick, you can't be a hero 24/7. It's difficult when you try to be. You showed me that and you showed me that having life outside of being a vigilante is good. It makes sure you're enjoying yourself while helping others." Bruce said, "I'm sorry I'm not always there for you and your brothers. But I still love all of you dearly."

"I love you too, Bruce. And thanks for the talk." Dick smiled, cuddling impossibly closer.

Short, but cute?

Idk, maybe this will turn into a oneshot about trying to be Nightwing 24/7?

I have no idea! But let me know your thoughts!
