Chapter XXVI (Unveiled)

Roxbury, March 3rd 2024

7 a.m.

My Iphone alarm rings. I get up all smiley and go take a shower.

Today I woke up happy and I even don't know the reason why.

But one thing I know. I'm ready to go back to New York.

Roderick is still sleeping and I look at him. He looks like an angel.

I'm so lucky to have him. He is the greatest.

I'm eating my breakfast and I turn the tv on just to see what's going on.

I zap through the channels so I can find one that doesn't show death or crime.

I just want to see what's going on with the show biz.

Roderick finally wakes up, goes to the kitchen.

Roderick – Good morning.

Jordan – Good morning.

Roderick – Somebody woke up really happy today.

Jordan – Yeah, I'm happy.

Jordan – I feel I'm ready to go back to New York.

Roderick – Really?

Jordan – Yes I really enjoyed being here but I have to.

Roderick – What about your sister? She will come after you!

Jordan – No, she won't, I will have Tank waiting for us at the train station.

Roderick – You do?!

Jordan – Well I don't, but I'm going to take care of that.

Jordan – I'm going to call Elsie.

Jordan – I made some toasts with cream cheese just like you like.

Jordan – There's orange juice too.

Roderick – Okay honey. But I'm going to take a shower first.

Jordan – Sure.

Roderick leaves the kitchen and goes to the bathroom.

And I'm going to call Elsie. She is going to be so happy.

She has been asking nonstop when will I go back to the bizz.

So I grab my Iphone and call her.

Jordan (on the phone) – Good morning Elsie.

Jordan (on the phone) – Yes I'm fine. How are you darling?

Jordan (on the phone) – I'm glad to hear that. Listen I have some news.

Jordan (on the phone) – We're going back to New York.

Jordan (on the phone) – I feel like I'm ready to go back to my acting career.

Elsie is screaming over the phone. I have to put the phone away so I don't become deaf.

Jordan (on the phone) – Listen, my sister might come after me.

Jordan (on the phone) – So I would like if you could tell Tank if he can cover us and drive us to my loft.

Jordan (on the phone) – Tell him to be at the Grand Central Terminal.

Jordan (on the phone) – Thank you Elsie. See you in a few hours.

Roderick appears.

Roderick – So are we safe?

Jordan – Yes, Tank will be at the terminal and he will drive us home.

Jordan – In a normal car so there's no way to know we're celebrities.

Roderick – Okay but we are celebrities.

Roderick – And aren't you even thinking that there will be paparazzi following us there?!

Jordan – Dang it. You're right.

Jordan – But it will be fine. Tank will be with us.

Roderick – Sure.

Jordan – Let's pack our trolleys.

Roderick – Come on.

12 a.m.

We finally arrive at New York, we're in the terminal.

Tank is with us. So far nothing weird has happened.

Roderick is anxious. I've never seen him like that.

He is so frightened about what could happen.

I mean I can't say he is cray cray, because my sister is the one who is terrorising us.

Tank – It's good to see you again Jordan.

Jordan – It's good to see you again too, Tank.

Jordan – You've been going to the gym a lot lately haven't you?!

Tank – Thank you for noticing.

Roderick – Hi Tank.

Tank – Oh hi Mr. Schultz. It's also good to see you again too.

Jordan – Shall we go home?! I'm hungry and I want to see my loft.

Tank – Sure, let's hit the road now.

We get out of the terminal and go to a car, a car an ordinary person would drive.

Tank let us in first so he can assure Jackie or her huntmen can't hurt us.

Then he enters to the car. He starts the engine and drives too fast for what I have been used to.

He's reckless let's say that.

But he does what's best for me and for Roderick and I can't thank him enough for that.

We arrive at my loft. Tank goes to his house. We're finally at home.

Elsie runs to me and hugs me really tight.

Elsie – I missed you so much.

Jordan – I missed you too Elsie. Oh dear.

Elsie – How are you Roderick?

Roderick – I'm good. Looking forward to get back at the bizz.

Elsie – That's nice.

Elsie – Jordan let's talk about work.

Jordan – Alright. What's tea?

Elsie – Simon Andrews wants to make a tv show like Smash.

Elsie – You know, the magic behind the Broadway musicals.

Elsie – How actors live when they're starting their careers.

Jordan – That sounds interesting. I could see myself in it.

Elsie – He will start the auditions in a week.

Elsie – But I pulled a few strings so he will give you the lead role of the tv show.

Jordan – Elsie! Why?!

Elsie – You should thank me, I do everything to see you on the top of the ladder.

Jordan – I know. But I want to be climb it in a fair way.

Elsie – Then you're in the wrong business.

Jordan – You're right.

Jordan – I forgot how showbizz is all superficial and pretty but it's just a crock of crap.

Elsie – I asked Trinity to do it but she hasn't show up to work.

Jordan – You know what you should do right?!

Elsie – I know I should fire her but I can't. I can't say no to anyone.

Jordan – So start doing it now. Sometimes saying no is not a bad thing.

Elsie – Thank you, I missed your wise words.

Jordan – Oh, I missed you too.

We go upstairs, Roderick and I start to unpack our trolleys.

Elsie is on the art room on her laptop searching some things.

Elsie – Jordan, I forgot to tell you something.

Jordan – What, Elsie?

Elsie – You should do an interview about your life.

Jordan – Why? I still have a lot to live.

Elsie – I know. But people are dying to know about you.

Elsie – The real you.

Elsie – Unveiled. Without all of this Hollywood type of life.

Jordan – Okay, I guess I could do that.

Jordan – But isn't it too personal?

Elsie – Yes, but people want to relate to you.

Jordan – Okay, get who you need and we will do it right here.

Elsie – I'm on my way.

Roderick (to Jordan) – Really Jordan?!

Roderick – Do you want to tell your story to the entire nation?!

Jordan – I have to. You wouldn't understand.

Roderick – Why?

Jordan – Because you haven't been through what I have.

I get away from Roderick and go to my bedroom. I have to make a list of things to not be asked.

Also I have to think about every bad moment in my life.

I want to show everyone that everyone can go from rags to riches.

It's not an easy battle but it's worthy.

Roderick joins me in our bedroom. I'm deciding in what to wear.

Roderick – I guess you should wear that mint velvet Prada suit.

Jordan – No.

Roderick – Why not?

Jordan – It's too flashy, too superficial.

Roderick – Oh, I see.

Roderick – When you do something you commit to it one hundred per cent.

Jordan – This isn't about commitment to a show or something like that.

Jordan – Elsie told me I had to be unveiled.

Jordan (looking through clothing) – So, I will wear my simple plaid shirt and my jeans.

Roderick – Are you going to convey the country side life?

Jordan – No. This clothing isn't strict only to the country side.

Jordan – I want to be interviewed bare and simple.

Roderick – Okay.

The doorbell rings.

Jordan – Could you?!

Roderick – I'll get it. Go on get dressed.

Jordan – Thank you.

I dress myself, go to my bathroom and wash my face.

I put on some moisturizer and finally I go downstairs.

As I get downstairs, I see people with cameras and those things to capture sound.

They're installing a set on my living room.

I'm going to be interviewed for the "Today Show".

I sit and a female interviewer sits right in front of me.

The chairs are green and have gold rims.

Elsie and Roderick are standing behind the female interviewer.

Female interviewer (looking at a camera) – This is the "Today Show" and today I will be interviewing the most famous young man of this era.

Female interviewer (looking at a camera) – Jordan Wright.

Female interviewer (looking at a camera) – I'm at his loft, along with my crew.

The camera is turned to an angle that can shoot us two.

Jordan – Hi, how are you?

Female interviewer – I'm good, thank you.

Jordan – You're welcome.

Female interviewer – How are you doing?

Jordan – Uhm. I'm good I can say that.

Female interviewer – We know you took a break from showbiz.

Female interviewer – Are you feeling better?

Jordan – Yes, I guess.

Female interviewer – You guess.

Jordan – Well, I've been feeling okay, I could be better.

Female interviewer – What are you going through?

Jordan – This feels like therapy.

Female interviewer – I'm sorry if that is the path that we're taking.

Female interviewer – I was told, you wanted to clear some things.

Jordan – Yes. You're right on that.

Jordan – All of these achievements I got are good.

Jordan – I'm grateful of them and the people involved as well.

Jordan – But to achieve them I always lived in a superficial way.

Jordan – Now that I consider myself a star, I guess I can tell it like it is.

Female interviewer – What are you trying to say Jordan?

I look away, my eyes find Elsie's eyes immediately.

She nods her head in a way that makes me confident.

Jordan – I'm trying to say that I might have sugar coated some aspects of my life.

Jordan – Some even not told at all.

Female interviewer – Would you like to tell us all the truth?

Jordan – Sure.

Jordan – I'm Jordan Wright, born in California.

Jordan – My parents were quite a troubled couple.

Jordan – My father worked in a stationery shop. He drank a lot.

Jordan – My mother worked in a office.

Jordan (starting to cry) – They would clash a lot. Most of the time when my father was drunk.

Jordan (crying) – They would fight for hours.

Jordan (crying) – My sister and I would go to our bedrooms and wait for it to end.

Jordan (crying) – It went to the point where my father would hit my mom.

Female interviewer – I'm really sorry to hear about that.

Female interviewer – So you have a sister?

Jordan – Yes.

Jordan – She didn't cope really well with the environment of our family so she moved out at a young age.

Jordan – I stayed with my parents until their deaths.

Jordan (angry) – My father died first, which was kind of a relief for my mother and I.

Jordan – I'm sorry if that sounded malicious.

Female interviewer – You're on your right to express your feelings.

Jordan – My mother would put herself in danger just to save me from my father.

Jordan – Which made me really dependent of her.

Jordan – But sometimes she would be like him.

Jordan – Evil, cold.

Jordan (crying) – I just wished I could have grown in a better family.

Jordan (crying) – I miss my mom, even though she was mean to sometimes.

Jordan (crying) – But I can't forget how she would save me.

Jordan – My sister came to my life after she learned our mother had died.

Jordan (angry) – I was mad at her. Mad at how she left me and our mom with that monster.

Jordan – And she had everything I dreamt of having.

Jordan – Fame, fortune and beauty.

Female interviewer – So did that infuriate you so much in order to get revenge or something of the sort?

Jordan – No, I guess it just lighten me into trying to become an actor.

Female interviewer – Which you have done successfully!

Jordan – Thanks.

Jordan – But has all of this give me closure?

Jordan – Have I gone full circle?!

Female interviewer – I think you have.

Female interviewer – You went through a lot.

Female interviewer – I just don't get why you kept all of this from us.

Jordan (drying the tears) – Well, it's not a happy story.

Female interviewer – Not everything has to be happy and sugar coated.

Jordan – You're right.

Female interviewer – So what now?

Jordan – I will keep on practicing my craft.

Jordan (looking at Roderick) – I will keep on being the best lover I can.

Jordan – And this won't be last you'll hear about me.

Female interviewer – Thank you so much for the interview Jordan.

Jordan – Oh, thank you!

Female interviewer – This is all for today. I hope you all stayed tuned to this interview.

Female interviewer – My name is Beverly Feldman, I hope you keep on watching the "Today show".

The cameras stop recording. Beverly comes to hug me and I try not to cry anymore.

I put myself all out. I unveiled my life. The real one.

All of the truth is out for millions to hear and see.

I don't care about reputation anymore. I just want to do more shows, plays, tv shows and whatnot.

I just want to keep working. Which is the best I can do for my health now.
