Chapter XVIII (New Beginnings)

Upper West Side Manhattan, February 21st 2016

After I left Sam's house I got back to the Dakota Building and rented my apartment.

Nobody had rented it. It's like I'm meant to live there.

Sam was a prick even though he tried to help me.

It's in these times that that cliche question is made: Am I wrong or is he right?

I once again jump to my bed and without unpacking my little red trolley I fall asleep.

Oscar was weirdly happy for my return. He has this creepy grin as everytime he watches me enter or leave the Dakota.

It's 8 a.m and today I'm heading straight to the university, no Starbucks stop.

I would most likely find Sam there so.

In NYU I search for the musical panflet.

It's an easy search since the theatre panflets are the ones that stand out amongst the others.

I finally find the panflet, the musical is Les Miserables or Les Miz.

I love this musical, I hadn't the luck of seeing it live so I just watched the movie version.

I know which part I will be auditioning. Marius Pontmercy.

I head straight to the auditorium and there's Linda, Kora and another teacher that I don't know his name.

Jordan – Good morning I'm Jordan.

Linda – We all know who you are.

Jordan – Okay, I'll be auditioning for the role of Marius Pontmercy and I'll be singing Empty Chairs At Empty Tables.

Kora – Go on.

Victor (mumbling) – He shouldn't have auditioned with a song from the musical, that's a thing you'll never do.

Linda – Right Victor?!

I sing the song and as I ended I expected more enthusiasm from them.

But no they just sign their papers and only Kora tells me something.

Kora – You were great there. Good audition.

Kora – We'll soon post the cast out there.

Jordan – Thank you all.

I go away and Jonathan is the next to audition.

I know we're in the same university but he seems to follow me in everything since that Linda's class.

Isn't he casted on Sam's short film?! Why is he then auditioning for the musical.

The teachers are mumbling to each other.

Victor – Kora I don't think he was great, he was good.

Victor – His voice is not that deep for the character.

Kora – I disagree with you he was great.

Kora – And remember that this is an emotional musical number so his voice doesn't has to be perfect.

Kora – Every actor who sings in this musical number has to have a shaky crying voice.

Linda – I for once agree with Kora.

Linda – Don't know what happened to him but he was great.

Linda – And this song, this musical number is really emotional so I guess we don't have to keep in mind the pitch.

Victor – But we have to tell him for future auditions that he can't audition to a musical with a song from it.

Kora and Linda – Right. That's for sure.

Victor – But I guess he is right for the part.

Linda – Okay next.

Jonathan is the next to audition.

Today I'm not late for any class, I'm improving.

Today's first class is preparation for acting.

It's like a class where you play games. It's fun.

It is a very important class since it helps the students come out of their shell, of their comfort zones.

And most important be ready for a show.

Greenwich Village, February 28th 2016

I'm walking through this university hallways now I don't have any friend.

Ryder hasn't been coming to NYU and he's the only one I could talk with now.

I just have to study. That's what I came to NYU for.

Why I'm so into my head, so constricted in my own bubble.

This is New York city of dreams. So I'm going after my dream that I don't even know what it is.

I see everyone running, actually not everyone, to this glass case.

My curiosity leads me to go watch what's so surprising in there, as I get nearer I find it's the final cast of the musical.

Jonathan hits my shoulder so he can see what part he got before me.

I let him I'm not this kind of psycho when it comes to know about results.

He's doing the exact same as Jessica did when she was searching for her name in the Winter Showcase ranking list.

Wandering his finger through the glass case making it greasy until he finds his role.

Everyone cheers for him and he smiles to me.

For once not an evil revenge-ish kind of smile.

He wanted to share his happiness with me. Genuinely.

I walk towards the glass case and I just wander through the list with my eyes, no way I'm touching the glass that's really childish and gross.

You know how many bacteria you can catch from touching something everyone has already touch it.

I got the Marius role and Jonathan got Jean Valjean.

And I notice there's Jessica in there too and how surprising, Kyle's there too.

They got Fantine and Enjolras respectively.

I'm not mad. I can live with that.

I delivered a good audition and now I only have to deliver a good show perfomance.

Sam's is at the end of the hallway, he surely is thinking in walking towards me, I hope he doesn't.

Oh forget about it, he is coming. I cross my arms.

Jordan – Yes?!

Sam – Please listen to me.

Sam – Everything I told you was with best intentions. I wasn't trying to bring you down or something.

Sam – I just wanted to assure you can have a sane mind and not being involved in so many things at the same time.

Jordan – Yes, I see it now. I reflected about it. But I can do it.

Jordan – Jessica, Jonathan and Kyle are doing it.

Sam – I know.

Jordan – They are casted for the musical too.

Sam – Wait so you considered audition to the musical?

Jordan – Of course.

Jordan – After I quit your short film I had to find anything to perform at.

Jordan – That was really shady of you. Knowing they were doing the musical and your short film a the same time.

Jordan – And leaving me behind.

Sam – Well they don't have the amount of talent you have.

Jordan – Oh they don't?!

Jordan – Then why Jessica won the Winter Showcase?

Jordan – Why Jonathan's performance of "Cell Block Tango" was better than mine?

Sam – It's just the teachers that don't see it.

Sam – And you're still being stuck up.

Sam – You have to accept that yes you are the big deal, but you're not the top.

Sam – You still have a lot to learn.

Jordan – I don't know why I'm still talking to you.

Jordan – I'm trying my best.

Jordan – I'm trying to do everything you said that is the same every teacher has been telling me.

Jordan – I thought you were my friend and you would support me.

Sam – And that's what I did. Please open your eyes. I love you.

Jordan – Haven't we talked about that?!

Sam – I don't care.

Sam kisses me, and this time it wasn't in the cheek.

Jordan – No, no this can't happen.

Jordan – I'm not ready to have a relationship right now. My heart is still broken.

Sam – I'll heal you.

Sam – I know you can't force love but I know you feel something for me.

Jordan – I guess we could give it a try.

Sam – Really?!

Jordan – Yes.

Sam - So what part did you get?

Jordan – Marius Pontmercy.

Sam – Wow that's a good role. Congrats.

Jordan – Thank you.

Jordan – So I'm going to have theatre history class and after that I have a free schedule.

Sam – What are you planning to do in the free time?

I look at him with desire and sultry.

Sam – Oh, ok. Do you wanna go on a date with me?

Jordan – I thought you'd never ask.

Jordan – Okay we'll meet in 90 minutes.

Sam – Where?

Jordan - Surprise me.

Sam – Okay see you then.

Sam – I have to shoot some scenes for my short film.

Jordan – See you later.
