Chapter XI (Breakdown)
Rockefeller Center, April 10th 2016
Heirs of the Frontline is going really well. We're about to start shoot the second season.
And I got a call from Mr. Jacques saying that the second season shootings will take place at Los Angeles.
That's my hometown!
The departure will be tomorrow at 6 a.m.
Sam – I will miss you baby.
Elliott – I will miss you too baby. But it's my work. And I've got the chance to visit my hometown again.
Sam – I'm still sad that you described me as your friend on the Jimmy Fallon show.
Elliott – We talked about that already. The studio does know I'm bisexual and that I'm in a relationship but I have to be perceived as single.
Elliott - So I will attract a lot of people to the show. You know the drill with fans thinking they get a chance with their idols.
Sam – That sounds ridiculous and really objectifying.
Elliott – Please stop! Don't get me started with this objectifying or sex symbol thing.
Elliott - I know it's the trend to point out those things but we're lovers so you shouldn't do that.
Elliott - I only have eyes for you and I'm only yours.
Elliott – Don't pull off a Dimaggio on me. I know that's exactly what you think you're doing.
Sam – What?!
Elliott – Yes, don't be surprised. I know you look at our relationship like you are Joe Dimaggio and I'm Marilyn Monroe.
Elliott - But let me stop you there. I'm free to use my body and my appearance in my work and with my fans.
Elliott - We're lovers but nobody belongs to nobody okay?!
Sam – Is this how you want our last hours to be like?!
Sam – Fighting?!
Elliott – No, of course not babe. I'm sorry I overreact too much.
Elliott - But the studio puts this pressure on me that I have to be appealing to the audience.
Elliott - And you're pressuring me to do otherwise only makes me more confused. I've even started to take anxiety pills again.
Sam – No, I will call the asylum. You're not supposed to get back to those.
Elliott – Call it then. If that's what you want. I don't know why then you released me from there.
Sam – You know what? I'm going for a walk and do not come after me.
Sam - I'm tired of your bullshit. You're either always nagging or bragging.
Sam - So I will take a time for myself. Bye!
Elliott – Go then! Bitch. You're always bragging too about that stupid movie of yours.
What an asshole, he is not supposed to tell me what or what not to do.
I'm my own person, I have the right to do the heck I want to do. We're lovers but we don't own each other.
I guess this time on Los Angeles is going to help me. It's already dinner time and Sam hasn't arrived yet.
I'm starting to feel guilty so I call his cellphone but he doesn't pick up. After six tries he finally picks up.
Elliott – Hi babe, I'm sorry, you're right I have just been bragging and nagging.
Elliott - I always let the success get into my head. I just want you with me. I'm waiting for you for dinner.
Elliott – Don't be long. I can't wait for you anymore.
Elliott – See you in a few.
Sam's tone was really relaxed like he wasn't angry. I'm worried about that. He don't do that when we fight.
But well if he's okay, I'm okay.
I wait for him and in the meantime I make dinner. I'm doing turkey steak with rice.
We have to change the meals a bit. We have been doing pasta since I moved in. And a year is almost gone by.
I hear a key unlocking the door and I see Sam. I'm so happy that I let the food on the oven and go straight to his arms.
I kiss him and I look up at him. He's taller than me.
Sam – Hey.
Elliott – I missed you. I always ruin everything, this is supposed to be a good time before I go.
Elliott - We're going to be months without seeing each other.
Sam – Maybe not. I called Mr. Jacques and I'm coming with you but we won't be on the same hotel.
Sam - Mr. Jacques doesn't want for anyone to know that we are dating. Yet.
Elliott – Oh really?! That's amazing but what will you be doing there then?
Sam – I will search for movies companies to apply for director jobs.
Sam – It's Los Angeles the city of movies.
Sam – New York is the city of dreams and of musicals.
Sam - But let's face it when it comes to movies and tv shows the real deal is in Los Angeles.
Elliott - That's actually true. That makes me think why in the world did I move to New York.
Sam - So you could meet me.
Elliott - Get over yourself. But that's true. It was a nice thing after all that I went through.
Sam - Let's eat. We have six hours to sleep. We have to be there one hour earlier than the flight.
Elliott - Oh six hours?! That's so unhealthy, we should at least sleep eight hours. But let's eat now.
Sam - What did you make for dinner?
Elliott - Just sit down and you'll see it.
Sam - Surprises at this hour?!
Elliott - Yes daddy.
I put the tray on the table and Sam is looking at it with so much desire, he is almost drooling.
Sam - Is that turkey?
Elliott - You bet it is. Turkey steaks with rice.
Sam - Nice change. We've been eating only pasta since you moved in.
Elliott - That's what I thought. We're soulmates, you think like me.
Sam - Great minds think alike. No but that's not surprising I was just pointing out the obvious.
Elliott - Oh.
We eat our dinner and wash our dishes and we check our trolleys if we packed everything that is essential.
We already packed but you know there's always something that is missing.
After that we go to our bedroom and sleep while the tv is on but on low volume.
Rockefeller Center, April 11th 2016
5 a.m.
Our phones ring annoying sounds that together are even more annoying. It's time to wake up.
We both run to our bathrooms, take quick showers, Sam is faster than me. He dresses himself and starts to make breakfasts.
I run to our bedroom and go dress myself, I got new clothes. Yes! That's a perk of being a celebrity.
My wardrobe is full of clothes of brands that go from Prada to Calvin Klein.
I go to the kitchen and I eat breakfast with Sam. He is wearing one of my clothes, I give him some.
He deserves it and I have so many.
Elliott - Good morning daddy.
Sam - Good morning Elli.
We kiss.
Sam - Ready for the flight?
Elliott - I'm ready, I guess I will sleep through it because I'm still sleepy.
Sam - That will be two. I didn't rest well too.
Elliott - It's the thrill of going on a flight. It drains you.
Sam - I'm used to it. But I have this feeling that something bad will happen.
Elliott - Stop worrying. Nothing will happen. We'll be okay, have a safe flight and have a great time at LA.
Elliott - Okay babe?
Sam - Okay Elli.
We eat and after that we grab our trolleys and call the limo to takes us to JFK Airport. It's fancy going on a limo.
When we arrived at the airport, let me tell you. It was crowded, yes it is an airport it's always crowded.
But it was crowded with young people who are fans of me and of my show. There are some fans of Sam's movie too.
This is too overwhelming for us.
Elliott - Hi yall how are you all doing? I love you all.
A girl and a boy come to me and in their hands there is a dvd of my tv show.
Fan girl - Hi Elliott, I'm Christie and I love you and your character. You are really sassy and sexy too.
Elliott - Hi Christie thank you. You're beautiful, I love your eyes.
Elliott - Did you rob a part of the ocean and put it on your eyeballs?!
Elliott - Those eyes, I would drown myself in them.
Fan girl - Oh I love you.
Christie kisses me in the cheek and hugs me tight.
Melvin who's coming near me is telling Sam to get her out of the way.
Elliott - It's okay Melvin, she's a fan. Christie was just giving me a hug, what's wrong with that?
Fan boy - Hi Elli... Elliott.
Elliott - Hi there. What's your name?
Fan boy - I'm Steven. I like you.
Elliott - Oh thank you. I like you too.
Fan boy - No I mean, I love you. Would you date me?
Elliott - I'm sorry but for now my heart is not up to be filled in that way but I do appreciate your love as a fan.
Fan boy - Oh okay.
Elliott - Please don't be sad. I don't want to make you sad.
Elliott - It's just we can't force love but who knows someday?!
I wink at Steven and bite my lip.
Melvin Loomis - Elliott it's time to go.
Steven is confused and is still looking at me.
Elliott - What about the check in, I have to go do it.
Melvin Loomis - Leave it to me. We'll go next the check in line and you will seat while I do it.
Elliott - Okay.
Melvin does the check in and I'm seated. Sam is doing is own check in, he's not a celebrity.
Well I mean he's not an actor and he doesn't have anyone to represent him. He represents himself.
We're told to go to the plane. But before we actually get in the plane we had to take a bus.
It will drives us near the plane. It's so crowded here. I mean everywhere I go it's always crowded. Gosh.
We finally enter the plane, we hear that blah blah about safety and the flight takes place.
It's five hours and a half to arrive at LA. We will arrive at LAX airport. Los Angeles here we go.
We all got to fly in first class. Posh isn't it?!
I'm seated in a comfortable seat that can be turned into a bed and there are air hostesses serving caviar and Dom Perignon.
I will take everything I have the right to take. Live the life of the stars. Right now, everyone would like to be us.
Los Angeles, April 12th 2017
After the flight time we finally arrive and nothing bad happened. We get out at LAX airport and there were more fans there. Autographs, pictures with fans and talking with them.
I'm not bothered with that. I actually enjoy it and I have to thank my television company but mostly my fans.
Because it were them that made me famous.
The second season will take place, speaking more accurately, at Beverly Hills. Posh and rich place because that's what the tv show is about.
Melvin rented a hotel for all of us. He gave to the cast the script of this season. We will share rooms.
The boys will all sleep in one room and the girls in another one. Melvin is spreading flyers to announce the need for extras.
I arrive at my hotel room with all the guys of the cast.
Elliott - I'm sorry you all but I will sleep for a few hours. So if you wouldn't mind please keep it low.
Everyone shrugs and start to talk with each other but at a tone I can bear in my sleep.
I get into sleep that it's almost like a comatose state. When I wake up nobody's there.
The guys went all away. Did they went to the studio without warning me?
Elliot - What the hell? Where's everybody?
I call Melvin.
Elliott (on the phone) - Hi Melvin, it's me Elliott.
Elliott (on the phone) - Yes I'm okay. Yes I was sleeping. I didn't rest well on my house neither at the plane.
Elliott (on the phone) - I'm calling because I woke up and no one of the guys are here in the hotel room.
Elliott (on the phone) - Did the shooting already started and I wasn't warned about it?!
Elliott (on the phone) - That's really unprofessional of you. You should have warned me.
Elliott (on the phone) - How will I go to Beverly Hills now?! This isn't acceptable!
Elliott (on the phone) - Okay tell him to get me out of here and to drive me to where you all are.
Elliott (on the phone) - I'm waiting and you know I don't like to wait. Bye.
Fuck, stupid guys didn't wake me up for the shootings of the first episode. Stupid Melvin who didn't warn me about the shootings.
Are they kidding me? I'm the star of the show, without me there's no show. So don't take me for granted.
My phone makes a notification noise and I see a text message. It's from the limo driver he is saying he is outside of the hotel.
I leave the room and go downstairs to get out of here, in the way I find Sam.
Sam - Hey babe.
Elliott - I don't have time. I'm mad, you don't want me to start talking to you because I will offend you.
Elliott - I'm late for the shooting of the first episode. Bye.
Sam - Okay, see you. Good luck.
I get out of the hotel the driver opens the door for me and I enter angrily.
I close the door angrily even though it is his job to close it and to drive me to where I should be.
Elliott - Please chauffer roll the partition up.
Limo driver - Okay.
Elliott - Thank you.
On the way to Beverly Hills I start to read the script and it's getting better. It will be great. I promise.
We finally arrive at Beverly Hills and the driver opens the door and I get out.
Elliott - Bye.
I'm in front of a studio and near it there's a lot of trailers. I'm still figuring out which one will be mine.
Melvin is coming out of the studio he sees me and comes near me.
Elliott - Don't open your mouth. Don't you dare just point at my trailer.
Elliott - I have the script memorized and I will memorize more at my trailer and then wear what's in there.
Melvin just nods and takes me to my trailer. When I open the door I look at him and give him a despising look and close the door on him.
There's a lot of clothing in here. But the good of it it's that every outfit is marked to which scene I shall wear it.
The first scene is Darcy, Duncan and Cameron shopping at the stores of Rodeo Drive.
They're supposed to be in class but they're rich so they can take vacations or days off when they want.
I have to wear a white polo with yellow collar and yellow sleeves. Yellow pants and oxford brown shoes.
Quite preppy.
I wear it and go out of my trailer. I knock on the door of the studio and tell them I'm ready.
They drive me, Vincenzo and Frankie to Rodeo Drive. We're going to "buy" clothes.
We arrive at it and James Murphy is there to give us directions for the scene. The rest of the cast are shooting at the studio.
James Murphy - Hello boys. Good to see you for more shootings. It means this show is a hit.
James Murphy - So for this scene, basically Duncan, Cameron and Darcy decided to ditch school for a day to shop at Rodeo Drive stores.
James Murphy - You three just have to enter the Chanel store and Gucci store and say your lines of course.
Elliott - Okay.
Frankie - Let's do it.
Vincenzo - I'm ready.
We enter the Chanel store and the camera man starts to shoot the scene.
Darcy Prescott - Oh my god guys did you all see that girl?! She thinks she dresses well but that hair though.
Cameron Montfort - She is what you call hot mess. She might think she's hot but is mostly a mess.
Duncan Van Dyne - Yes that was amazing. She's really a hot mess.
Darcy Prescott - Okay we're here to some shopping because let's face it our clothing is getting so last season.
Darcy Prescott - I want us to follow the most recent trends.
Darcy Prescott - We have to show that we know about everything that is going on either on fashion as in pop culture.
Cameron Montfort - My father gave me this card and he said only to use in emergencies.
Darcy Prescott - This is an emergency. You're looking like that girl we were talking about.
Darcy Prescott - You have to upgrade yourself. If this isn't an emergency then you don't have your priorities on point.
Duncan Van Dyne - I don't like Chanel that much. I'm more of a Gucci guy.
Darcy Prescott - Well me too but let's see what is the new collection on Chanel and then we'll buy clothing at Gucci.
Duncan Van Dyne - I'm good with that.
We go look for clothing and we do some shocking expressions and try some of those clothes.
James Murphy - Cut! That was amazing.
Vincenzo - Was it?!
James Murphy - Of course it was. Now you're going to Gucci store to buy clothing.
We shoot that scene, today is hot so I'm about to get sweaty. But I ask the makeup artist to retouch me.
Cut the shine. And make it sweat proof.
On the studio
Melvin Loomis - As you all know, James Murphy is directing Elliott, Vincenzo and Frankie at Rodeo Drive.
Melvin Loomis - So I'll be the one directing the rest of you today.
Melvin Loomis - This episode revolves around of the missing of those three and how Tiffany is trying to use that to rule the school for a day.
Melvin Loomis - Mia I want you to channel your inner bitch. Your inner powerful independent woman.
Melvin Loomis - Agnes I want you to keep the quirkiness and being nerdy.
Melvin Loomis - Ken I want you to give me all that jock douchebag vibe.
Melvin Loomis - Camera man please start shooting.
The scene is set on the school gym. Alma is sitting on the bleachers looking at Chad Godfrey.
Tiffany is on a bleacher above Alma and goes sit near her.
Tiffany - Hi gurl how are you doing?
Alma - Uhm good?! I'm Alma. How are you doing... Tiffany?!
Tiffany - Alma what an odd name. I'm always on top gurl.
Alma - Please stop calling me gurl. I'm Alma.
Tiffany - Whatever. I saw you were looking at Chad too much. He is hot isn't he?!
Alma - Kind of.
Tiffany - Yeah too hot for you though.
Tiffany - You don't have a chance with him so don't even try to fantasize about him.
Tiffany - Because that's what will only be, that will only be a fantasy.
Alma - Why are you so rude? Are you trying to be just a bitchy as Darcy and his army?!
Tiffany - Get your act together gurl. I'm better than the three of them together.
Tiffany - I don't need an army to rule this school and to be at the top of the hierarchy. I was born to be an individual, a leader.
Alma - That's not the best way to get there.
Alma - And the hierarchy you're talking about it's a result of several years of tv shows influences.
Alma - There's no hierarchy at high schools.
Tiffany - Okay nerd. I'm hearing this and I want to hear this! Which is nothing.
Chad is coming to the bleachers, he takes his helmet and looks at the girls.
Tiffany is on sexy mode while Alma is blushing and almost hiding herself.
Chad Godfrey - Hey girls. Hey you?!
Tiffany - Hey Chad are you talking to me?!
Chad Godfrey - Nah, actually I was talking to the other girl.
Tiffany - What?!
Alma - Me?!
Chad Godfrey - Yes you, what's your name?
Alma - I'm Alma. Why would you like to talk to me?
Chad Godfrey - Because you're beautiful.
Alma - Is this a joke?! Did you lost a bet?!
Chad Godfrey - Wow that was kind of mean. But no.
Chad Godfrey - Behind that nerdy quirky girl there's a nice girl and you're really beautiful.
Alma - Thank you Chad.
Tiffany - He lost a bet. He will date you and then make fun of you along with his friends.
Chad Godfrey - Aren't you a bitch?! You're lacking vitamin D.
Chad Godfrey - For a girl who self proclaims as a leader, I haven't see you accomplish anything.
Chad Godfrey - Just being dragged by the gay guys.
Tiffany - Go screw yourserlf. You're not that hot though.
Chad Godfrey - Yeah okay. Beat it.
Melvin Loomis - Cut. This was a good scene. Tomorrow we'll shoot more scenes for the episode.
Now your drivers will drive you to the hotel to rest.
On the hotel
We arrive at the hotel really tired, the entire cast is tired and they just want to sleep.
Me and the guys go to our room and each one of them is going to their beds. They're all taking pills to sleep.
Ken - Hey Elliott how can you sleep without pills?!
Elliott - Actually I was taking sleeping pills but I stopped taking them.
Elliott - Now I'm on them again but they're not that effective.
Ken - Here take this bottle, I have more with me.
Ken - This is a sleep helper and will also help you get through the shootings.
Elliott - Okay.
I take the bottle and I search for a bottle of water.
Elliott - Where's the water.
Ken - No man, you don't drink them with water. Here's vodka.
Elliott - Okay.
I take the pills with vodka and I start to feel dizzy and get into sleep soon. Everyone's sleeping as well.
Los Angeles, April 13th 2017
Everybody phone's buzzes and we don't wake up. It wasn't until someone knocked on the door like it was about to break it that we all woke up.
Elliott (sleepy) - Who is it?
Melvin (on the other side of the door) - It's me Melvin, you're all late to shoot the rest of the episode.
Melvin (on the other side of the door) - The girls have been waiting for two hours.
Vincenzo - What?!
Elliott - I don't feel like going to the shootings.
Vincenzo - Ken?! KEN?!
Ken - Yes?!
Vincenzo - Do you have those pills that give you energy and for anxiety? That cocktail you once gave me?!
Ken - I have it. Why do you need it?!
Vincenzo - I don't, but Elliott seems to need it.
Ken - Come here Elliott.
I go walking like a zombie near Ken.
Ken - This is a good cocktail of pills that will strengthen you up. Drink it with vodka okay?!
Elliott - Okay!
I take the pills cocktail and drink it and I wait for the effect of the pills.
Man this is kicking faster than I thought. My mind is full of voices and memories start to appear.
Some I don't remind.
Elliott - Oh no. Please no more electroconvulsive therapy. I'm okay. No I'm okay.
Vincenzo - What's happening to him?!
I run to Vincenzo.
Elliott - Vincenzo they didn't let me sleep for ten days.
Elliott - I wasn't isolated I was tortured by some people.
Elliott - They gave me pills and electroconvulsive therapy.
Ken - Somebody bring Melvin here.
Elliott - No he is going to tell me stories about butterflies. I'm a butterfly.
Vincenzo tells Melvin to get in the room.
Melvin grabs me as I'm talking.
Melvin Loomis - Elliott?! Elliott are you okay?
Elliott - I am. I don't need electroconvulsive therapy doctor.
Melvin Loomis - We have to take you back to New York.
Melvin calls his private jetplane and I go back to the asylum.
I'm taking by strong nurses to upstairs.
Melvin Loomis (to the receptionist) - Well you know what happened. It's the mind control that is breaking its effect.
Melvin Loomis (to the receptionist) - He remembered the torture he received here. He has to be reprogrammed.
Receptionist - Sure I'll tell that to Doctor Amaranth.
Melvin Loomis - Thank you. I have to talk to the press about his state.
On the television
News reporter - Actor Elliott Cromwell was taken to an asylum after he had a breakdown where he talked about torture and being a butterfly.
News reporter - He as well presented harm to his male co-stars.
News reporter - We have Melvin Loomis, Elliott's publicist live talking about the actor.
Melvin is on full screen.
Melvin Loomis - Good night. I have to point out that Elliott did not present harm to his male co-stars.
Melvin Loomis - He only talked about how he suffered torture and that he was sleep deprived and was a butterfly.
Melvin Loomis - This of course isn't real it was a product of anxiety and sleep pills cocktail with vodka.
Melvin Loomis - He has been feeling pressured because of the second season of "Heirs of the Frontline".
Melvin Loomis - But I can guarantee you that this won't affect the show and he will soon be released from the asylum in New York.
Melvin Loomis - He's being treated and soon will be back to the show shootings.
Melvin Loomis - Thank you everybody, good night.
News Reporter - And that was what we could get from Elliot's publicist about his mental state.
News Reporter - Now moving on to the weather cast.
