Chapter 2: New World

"Who the hell are you?" Kainé asked in confusion of who was standing in front of you the two of you.

"I think that's our line over here? You two just suddenly appeared in front of us." Yang said as the Beacon students approached the two of you and stopped just a few feet away. "You two just fell from some weird portal in the sky." Yang said while pointing a finger to the spot in the air you two fell from.

"Maybe that shade's attack wasn't the type to kill us..." You said as Kainé turned towards you in confusion.

"If it wasn't, then what the hell did it do? Where the hell are we? Those shades weren't like any we've seen." Kainé said in slight frustration.

"You mean the grimm?" Yang asked as you turned to her in confusion.

"What's a grimm?" You asked her.

"They're the monsters you took down earlier just now. We call them the grimm." Blake explained as you seemed to contemplate something before speaking up.

"Excuse me for what I'm about to ask, but do you think you can help us learn what situation we're in?" You said as Kainé turned to look at you with surprise. "I don't feel any ill intent towards us, so I think we can trust you to an extent." You said as Kainé grabbed your shoulder.

"Are you serious, Y/N? Who knows what kinda of people are. We just fucking met them, who knows what kind of people they are." Kainé said as Phyrra stepped forward.

"I am sure that we may be able to provide you with some assistance in telling you where you are. We can take you back to our school. I'm sure that there are some people who can help you." Phyrra said as you placed your spear behind your back and Kainé placed her swords away as well.

"Thank you." You said as Ruby turned to those around her.

"W-Well, we're out of that pickle for now. Let's get back to the cliffs before more grimm show up. C'mon teams!" Ruby said as they all began to fall out and you were about to follow, but noticed Kainé not following you.

"Kainé?" You called as she seemed to just stay in place, contemplating something as you walked back towards her. "What's wrong?" You asked as she rubbed her left arm nervously.

"I'll just stay out here. I'm sure there are some assholes at they're home who'll get in my nerves. I don't wanna have them see my shove my foot up someone's ass for ticking me off." She said before slightly turning away, before stopping when you took hold of her hand and she turned to you.

"Right now, we don't know how dangerous our surroundings are...You can definitely handle yourself, but if something were to happen to you, I'd..." You trailed off as she stared at you with her jaw slightly a gap in wonder. "Anyways, we probably aren't gonna be going home anytime soon, if we have to sleep, I'm not letting you sleep outside. I won't let that happen again." You said as you turned and began to drag her along with you.

"Dammit, alright already." Kainé said as she yanked her arm away and walked ahead of you as you were surprised. "If I end up shoving some dumb kids head up another kids ass, its your damn fault." She groaned as she began to follow the group of Beacon students.

After agreeing to place some trust in the group of young fighters you had just met, you followed them out of the forest you were in and made your way up the cliff they spoke of. Traveling farther and farther from the forest, you and Kainé found yourselves standing in the middle of what you thought was a kingdom or highly sophisticated village, which to the students was Beacon Academy. You and Kainé looked around in complete awe of the structures and buildings, while the students of Beacon who managed to catch sight of you, stared with strange looks and huge blushes when they especially saw the attire that Kainé was wearing. You walked through large open yards and turned through many tall hallways before finally stopping at a large empty hall filled with long tables and long seats.

"This is the dinning hall, all everyone who lives here comes to this place to grab something to eat. Right now there's no one in here because there's a ceremony we have to attend. You guys can wait here until we're done with the things we have to do, and then we'll come back to you. Is that fine?" Ruby asked as you just looked in awe at how everything was clean and grand.

"Y-Yeah, fine. We can wait." You said as Ruby and her friends all turned to leave.

"All right, we'll be back soon." Ruby said as they all left the dining hall while you and Kainé walked over to one of the tables and took a seat while setting your weapons down.

"This place is quite strange..." You said before noticing Kainé seemed a bit on edge. "Kainé..." You muttered in slight worry as she just brought one knee up to her chest and held it there.

"My entire life, I've been cast out and wanted dead...Me being some place with as many people as they claim to have..." She trailed off while looking to the side where she could stare up at the sun through the window. "I feel a bit out of place..." She said as she remembered the countless number of times she was insulted, neglected, and even physically abused from her childhood in the village.

"Maybe they're different..." You said as she stared over at you. "Maybe...this place isn't as harsh as where we're from." You said as she just turned back to look out the window.

"Who knows..." Was all Kainé said before the sound of a metal door caught both of your attentions and the two of you turned to see a few older looking women walk in wearing aprons and the same clothing underneath them.

"Huh? We weren't expecting anyone yet until the initiation ceremony for the first years was over." A lunch lady said as the two of you stared at each other in wonder of what to say. "Well, since you're already here, are you two hungry?" She asked in a sweet tone as this piqued Kainé's interest when the subject of food was brought up.

Ten Minutes Later

Team RWBY and JNPR were on their way back to the dining hall like they had promised and were nearing the doors of the main entrance, and when they walked through, what they saw was beyond what they expected. Sitting at a table a few feet away was you and Kainé scarfing down a tray of various foods prepared by the lunch ladies. Your meals consisted of finely cooked meat, pasta, spaghetti, grilled fish, a large salad and some slices of pizza. You were eating at a calm, but excited pace, savoring the flavors, meanwhile Kainé showed her tray of food no mercy, taking huge bites out of everything.

"Hehe, and here these are just some of the more simpler items we lunch ladies make for our students here. I wonder how they'll react when they try some of our more favored dishes among students." The lunch lady giggled as the two teams approached you two.

"We're back." Ruby called out as you swallowed a piece of fish and turned around with a smile on your face.

"Welcome back. U-Um...I never got your names..." You said as polite as you could.

"Oh! Right! Sorry, let me introduce everyone to you two. I'm Ruby Rose, and this is my sister, Yang Xiao Long." Ruby said as she pointed to Yang who was standing next to Kainé with an impressed look on her face.

"Finally, someone with an appetite as big as mine!" Yang said with some excitement as Kainé just stared up at her while eating some spaghetti.

"Anyways, we informed the person who can probably help you the most, and we'll be able to meet with them when you're done eating." Ruby said with a reassuring tone as you smiled and nodded.

"Thank you for everything you've done. I'm not sure what we would have done if we had never met you all." You said as she took a seat next to you, and the other took seats around the table.

"By the way, where are you from? How did you get here the way you did?" Ruby asked in curiosity as you and Kainé both stopped eating and grew serious looks.

"We don't know how we got here...I don't even know where this is, because the things I see around here seem like they don't belong from where I am, which makes me think we're not just in some different place away from our home..." You said as this raised many brows.

"Don't belong from where you're from? What are the things where you're from like?" Blake asked as you crossed your arms and thought hard.

"Where I'm from, there's nothing like that flying ferry we took to get here. We lived in small villages and populations were very small. Your weapons as well, they're nothing like anything we've ever seen. We mainly use swords and other things that require us to be close to our enemies. From what I saw, you were attacking those creatures from both close and far, with weapons that look like blades and blunts weapons." You said as you turned towards Ruby. "Like yours, a scythe that somehow unleashes a flash of fire and sends something flying towards your enemies." You said as Ruby smiled with pride for her weapon.

"Yeah, my Crescent Rose is pretty cool, right?" Ruby said with a smug chuckle as Jaune chimed his thoughts in.

"If you think about everything you've said, then it sounds like where your from, the technology sounds almost like they're medieval from the old times." Jaune said as you raised your brow at what he said.

"I'm sorry, I'm confused. Technology?" You asked as Weiss poked her head around to look at you.

"Really? You don't know that term?" Weiss asked as you just shook your head. "Technology is the scientific knowledge you implement into things for your daily lives." Weiss explained, while you were still confused.

"I'm sorry, I can't really follow what you're telling us right now. If this 'technology' is some type of knowledge, then I haven't heard of anything like it. The knowledge we had from where we're from was limited to just stories and maps, and general information and history of villages." You said as you were completely lost on the topic.

"Villages? I mean, there are some around, but more than anything, cities and kingdoms are more common here. Despite being at odds with each other, humans and faunus have been flourishing all over the world also. There's been no threatening decline to either population." Blake said as you were even more confused.

"What's a faunus?" You asked as the Beacon students were eve more confused.

"You don't know what that is either? Man, it sounds like you guys are from a whole different world." Yang said in a satirical manner, but after a few moments of silence, it seemed to click into the minds of everyone except you and Kainé. "Ohh...No way..." Yang said as they looked at you two with even more amazement.

"Another world?" You said in confusion.

"It makes sense, the difference between our societies, the technology difference and how you two suddenly appeared here. It sounds crazy, but it's definitely a possibility that you two are from another world." Pyhrra hypothesized as you a dreadful look covered your face.

"We're in...another world...?" You said as your fist clenched on top of the table. "Yonah...Emil...Everyone...!" You said in a frustrated tone while lowering your head in despair as they all had worried looks now.

"Did something happen before you two were brought here?" Yang asked as Kainé looked away with a displeased look.

"We were defending Y/N's village from an attack, when one of the shade's attacks caught us and sent us here. It was a power that we had never encountered before." Kainé explained as it was their turn to be confused.

"What's a shade?" Ren asked as Kainé shivered at the true identity of the shades.

"They're...dark figures that preyed upon and attacked humans..." Kainé told a smaller and more vague truth about the shades. "They mostly take forms in the shape of humans, but there are some strange ones as well. They're not like these creatures you encounter here." Kainé said as you stood up from your seat.

"Sorry, but may we please see this person you want us meet." You asked in a kind, but hurried manner.

"Sure, let's go." Yang said as you and Kainé followed behind the group of students.

After leading you through the academy, team RWBY and JNPR brought you and Kainé to a tall tower where you rode a lift to the top. Inside the elevator, you were all silent as the elevator music would fill your ears as you and Kainé looked around in wonder of where the music was coming from. After a brief ride to the top, the doors opened to an office where you all walked in to find a middle-aged man with a light complexion, tousled silver hair and thin brown eyes. Next to him was a middle-aged woman that has very light-blonde hair tied back in a bun with a curl hanging down the right side of her face, her eyes are bright green and she wears thin ovular glasses. You and Kainé stood in the center of the room as the two teams stepped to the side.

"Professor Ozpin, this is who were talking about. Meet Y/N and Kainé." Ruby said as Ozpin looked at the two of you intricately.

"It's an honor to have people from another world in my academy. I am Professor Ozpin, you may just call me Ozpin, and welcome to Beacon." Ozpin said with a smile.

"N-No, we're grateful for you allowing us into your villa--I mean, your a-academy..." You said while bowing your head slightly to him.

"Team RWBY and JNPR, could you please wait for them down in the lobby. We won't be long." Ozpin said as they walked back and got into the lift as you and Kainé were left alone with Ozpin and Goodwitch. "I want to let you know before we continue our discussion. I will do everything in my power to help you." Ozpin said as smiled in relief.

"Thank you, Ozpin. Is there anywhere you think we could start to try and piece a way for us to get back home?" You asked as Ozpin reached down and took his mug of coffee and raised it to his lips.

"If I understand what happened, you were teleported here through a dark portal, yes?" Ozpin asked while sipping his coffee as you gave him a nod. "Are the two of you familiar with the term or subject of magic?" He asked as you looked at Kainé.

"Y-Yeah. Back in our world, me and Kainé were able to use magic, though under different circumstances. At one point, we both lost our abilities to use magic, but after going through the portal it seems like our magic returned." You explained as Ozpin stood up.

"Truly fascinating. How did you wield magic back in your world?" Ozpin asked.

"Huh? W-Well, I used it mostly to defend everyone from the monsters of our world. Kainé did the same as well, but we never really dug into the other uses for magic. All we know is how to use our powers to defeat our foes." You explained the use of magic to him.

"I see. Then, maybe there's more things you two are capable of with your magic. I will tell you something that I have told only a handful of people. Magic does exist in our world, too." Ozpin said while walking over to the window. "There are only a few beings in this world that can still wield this magic, but they have long gone into hiding. I'm afraid that we don't have the personnel that could aid in your return home at the current moment." Ozpin admitted the obstacles that stood in your way of returning to your world.

"Then what the hell are we supposed to do, stay here for the rest of our lives?" Kainé said in slight anger as Ozpin turned around.

"I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is that what we may have to offer you is a way to learn the magic of this world. We have books of different stories. It may inspire you into a method of getting back home. We can offer as much information of magic as we have, but I'm afraid this is the best I can do at the moment." Ozpin said as you were a bit discouraged, but smiled the best you could.

"Well, it's not like we expected to be able to return back home immediately. Any information we can get could help. Thank you." You said to him before he looked to Glynda.

"Ms.Goodwitch will take care of your living situation. You're welcome to stay as long as it takes to get you home. I will get some people to gather some information for me, as well." Ozpin said as Glynda walked over to you.

"I'll show you to your room. Please, follow me." Glynda said as the two of you walked back to follow her into the lift.

"I pray we find you a way home soon, Y/N. Kainé." Ozpin said.

"So do I, Ozpin." You said as the doors to the lift closed.

After that meeting with Ozpin, the sun began to set as its orange rays grew dimmer. Glynda showed you and Kainé to a room where Kainé sat in the window sill while staring out to the sky.

"Y/N. What do we do?" Kainé asked as you were laid in bed staring up at the ceiling.

"I don't know. We're in a new world that we don't know anything about...and we don't know how to get back..." You said as the sun's rays shined on Kainé.

"This fucking sucks..." Kainé said while lowering her head.

"But...I won't give up..." You said as Kainé turned towards you while you looked over at her. "I'll get you back home, and we'll be together again, with Yonah and Emil..." You said as Kainé let out a small smile.

"Yeah...that's right." Kainé said as she smiled and walked off the window sill as she stared at the bed questioningly. "I still don't think I'll get used to this stuff..." She said before she heard a patting noise come from behind and saw you pat your bed.

"We can share a bed together if it makes you more comfortable. I know you and Emil used to sleep together outside the village." You said as this painted a dark red hue on her face.

"T-The hell are you thinking!? As if I'd share a bed with you!" Kainé said as you were jaw-dropped from her response as she climbed her bed.

"Huh? Is it something I said?" You wondered as night fell and you were left to stay up that night in wonder of why Kainé would say such a thing, as you two tried your best to prepare yourselves for this new world.
