Prologue

Angel watched her parents get ready for a fight from the stairs. Her Uncle Mark was telling them not to go.

"Niamh, Kieran, she's a Greater Demon...She's the first Demon," Angel blinked, Lilith, the first Demon, Adam's first wife. "Castiel is too young to lose both of you because of a Greater Demon. Niamh, remember when we lost our parents? Because I do." Her mum put her hand on Uncle Mark's shoulder with a small smile.

"That's why I'm doing this. She killed them so we're killing her," Her mum looked at Angel. "Castiel, come down here now. We've got a present for you," Angel walked down the stairs as her mum held out a sword that seemed to glint in the light. "This is yours. Your granny made it for you at the Forge. It's steel and angelus lapis...Are you going to name it?" Angel took the sword and noticed it resembled glass.

"Glass. Its name is Glass," Angel hugged her mum. "Please don't go after the First Demon," Angel hugged her dad as well. "She'll kill you. Please, Mummy, Daddy, you'll die." Her dad knelt down to eye level with Angel.

"Castiel, we're Hunters, we're Ravenwoods, we fight demons and sometimes we die," Her dad levelled Glass between them. "I can't promise we'll come back but we have to do this...To protect you. No matter what, we will see you again and you will see us again...I swear on Glass and on our motto." Angel smiled sadly.

"Ancora pacta tua est...Be your own anchor...But I'm twelve, I can't be my own anchor," Her dad kissed her forehead while her mum hugged both of them. "Please come back...I'm too young to be my own anchor." They left and her Uncle Mark sighed behind her.

"You can sleep on the sofa until they get back," Angel sat on the sofa and faced the doors, not wanting to miss them. Uncle Mark covered her with a blanket and sat on the stairs with a hand on his revolver. "Good night, Angel." Angel fell asleep and dreamt of a pale woman with brown hair and white eyes beside the sofa. The woman touched Angel's cheek.

"Castiel Cecily Ravenwood, you look so much like your mother. I am the Lady of Edom, Lilith," Her accent seemed to be British and she wore a dress from the 1600s. "Before I slit her throat with my nails," Angel went for Glass but Lilith took it and dropped as it burned her. "Angelus lapis...Angel stone. I am sorry for murdering your parents but they deserved it. They tried to kill me but do not worry, you will never be harmed...I promised your mother with her last breath." Lilith turned to leave but Angel called after her.

"I swear on Glass, I'll kill you one day, just you wait, Lady of Edom," Lilith gave Angel a smirk and Angel woke up to her Uncle Mark shaking her gently. "They're dead. The Lady of Edom slit mum's throat with her nails...She didn't say what she did to dad...She can't kill me, mum made her promise not to." Angel started to cry and Uncle Mark hugged her.

"The First Demon burnt him alive. Tom and Lily are in the basement," Angel followed Uncle Mark, wiping her tears and holding Glass tightly to its hilt. The second Uncle Mark opened the basement door, Angel ran down the stairs and into Lily's hug. "Lily, Tom, the First Demon told Angel her parents were dead...She was in Angel's dreams and she can't hurt Angel because Niamh made her promise not to." Lily pulled out of the hug as Tom hugged Angel instead.

"Promise with her last breath?" Angel nodded into Tom's shoulder and Lily rubbed the back of her neck. "It only lasts until she's sixteen when in the old world she would be considered an adult." Tom gave Lily a look.

"You're scaring her," Angel wasn't scared, she was determined. "Mark, I know she's all you've got left and you're her legal guardian but...I think you should send her to the Academy. It's somewhere she'll be safe and where she can learn to protect herself." Angel pulled out of the hug and looked at Uncle Mark.

"Send me there...I want to learn how to fight," Uncle Mark looked sad. "Uncle Mark, I need to know how to protect myself and people I care about. Please." Uncle Mark held his hand out to Angel.

"Can I have Glass for a sec?" Angel held Glass out to him and he took Glass. "Lily, cast a spell on the sword. Just to make sure it can't be held by anyone but Angel." He put it in Angel's hand and Lily started speaking in a demon language. Glass started to glow as she spoke, burning Angel's hand a little. Lily stopped and tried to take Glass but couldn't.

"I've got a friend who teaches at the Academy. I'll ask him to look out for you." Angel watched Lily walk away and noticed a strange look that Tom was giving Lily. Tom knelt in front of Angel, brushing a piece of dyed red hair off her glasses.

"If you need me or my bike, call me," Angel was confused and Tom knew it. "Angel, we have to send you away today...And we can't let you go to the funeral." Angel started to cry and hugged Tom.

"Send me a memory, please," Tom was cold since he was a vampire but Angel always felt safe with him. Angel hugged Mark quickly. "Write to me, please," Lily reappeared and Angel hugged her. "Protect them for me." Lily kissed Angel's head.

"I promise. I'm going to open the portal now," Lily waved a hand and a portal appeared. "Remember the photos your mum and dad showed you? Think about them, alright, love?" Angel thought about the Academy in the background of so many pictures. "Goodbye Castiel." Angel stood in front of the portal and looked at the three people she had left in the world.

"Bye...I love you," Angel stepped through the portal, remembering the pictures and looked at the green grass before looking at the warlock smiling at her. "You're Lily's friend? I'm Castiel Ravenwood but I prefer Angel." The warlock smiled wider.

"My name is Mateo Riveria, the History teacher," He offered Angel his hand and Angel shook it. "You're the first student that didn't hesitate with shaking my hand. Lily tells me you aren't like the other students, I'll look out for you." Angel tried to smile.

"Thank you, Mr Riveria. Is there somewhere I can sleep?" He nodded and next thing Angel knew, she was in a bed with other girls sleeping around her. She fell asleep and saw Lilith standing at the edge of the bed. "You." Lilith smiled, touching Angel's hair.

"I am here to say I will visit you every year until you are sixteen years old, understand?" Angel nodded and Lilith kissed her head before disappearing, leaving Angel to dreams of slit throats and burnt corpses.
