Chapter Ten
Milia
Newt and I marched to his car. "What about Meters?" Newt asked the moment we got inside the car.
"Its Miles." I corrected his intentional mistake.
"Sorry can't hear you." He got out of the parking.
"You aren't funny," I said. He rotated his head to me, and my face got pale to the idea that he isn't paying attention to the road. My pride wouldn't allow me to tell him to advert his attention to the road.
After the most extended minutes in my life, he looked directly at the road. I glanced at him; he had his fists clenched on the steering wheel, his eyes fixed ahead on the road, and his back solid straight on the seat.
After an tensioned silence filling the ride, we arrived in front of the blocks. In one swift move, he switched off the car, pulled out the key, and got out of it. No, I was expecting a conversation.
"Newt!" I yelled, but he still stroked to his house pathway. "Newt!" I shouted and got out of the car. "Wait," I breathlessly said when I reached him. In those few seconds, he achieved a distance, done by his height. "Newt," He stopped giving me his back.
I walked to stand in front of him, and he stood speechless. "I think we need to talk," I said, facing difficulty to catch my breath.
"I need to sleep." He said coldly and looked away from me.
"No Newt, I need an explanation for this reasonless tension, and for the treatment you are giving me. That's not us. Whenever we get pissed, we'd talk to each other. So, do you expect me to walk away when I find you pissed?" I said, and I swear his sigh was so strong, that I felt a breeze on my face.
"What is it?" He asked with irritation in his voice.
"No, what is wrong with you?"
"Nothing."
"Are you telling me that is your normal attitude?" I questioned.
"Whatever." He rolled his eyes. I crossed my arms against my chest and looked at him.
"Why do you have to be like that? Why the hell are you acting like that." I asked as he was starting to get on my nerves, but I decided to chill. He already got the fury.
"Just tell me, Newtie. What troubles you, that it makes you like that. If there is something just tell me, and we will figure it out. Like we always do." I smiled slightly hoping I would get an answer. Finally, he looked at me.
"Milia it's just," He swapped through his hair and held his hand at the back of his neck.
"I'm listening..." I said as he hesitated.
"This Mile coming up, and he's showing off like a peacock there and taking all the attention with his fine looks and sarcasm. And, I don't know what's wrong with you guys. Martin offered him a job. Anne, the single word commenter, was all talk-ish about his car before we entered the restaurant, and knew it was his... Even you Milia, even you. Your glances were all dreamy, and you picked food for him!" He explained with a lot of anguish in his voice.
I stood speechless for a second. "I don't like him... At all." He was shouting now.
"Newt, Calm down." I was going to complete, but he cut me off.
"Am I running naked in a marathon?" He narrowed his eyes.
"No, it's just the heat of jealousy coming out of your ears!" I yelled back at him when the realization hit me. He gave me a stern look and walked past me.
Ugh! I have to run again because I care about him.
I slipped in front of him and held his elbows because I couldn't reach his shoulders. "Newt, I'm sorry you feel this way, but believe me he didn't show off a thing. Even his car which is unique and worth showing off, he didn't mention it unless Martin pointed his keys out. I don't get why do you think of this. Anyways, he's just Scott's friend. If you don't just like him; I will separate your outings."
"wait you are going out with this jerk again?" Cutting me off, he thundered although I thought he was starting to calm down.
"I don't know, and that is not the topic now. I need you to chill, maybe you'll never meet him again who knows. I also need you to know that I'm always and forever here for you... Okay?" His facial expressions were now better, but still holding a little sternness.
He was looking directly to my eyes now, and I removed my hands after I finished the speech. I guess it sucked as he was still sighing.
Out of the blue, he pulled me for a hug. I held my hands in the air for a while. we didn't hug literally since prom. Then, I decide to be a good friend and hug him back; he doesn't feel okay. "Newtie, you have to be sure that you will be my forever best friend," I reassured him as he let me go.
I think he's dealing with something because I've never seen him this angry. And Miles wasn't provocative to make him like that. Maybe he'll spill it later.
"That's it. Best friend. Newt is Milia's best friend. Milia and Newt are the best of friends" He whispered, and I know what I'll be overthinking about over the night; beside Miles I mean.
I pretended that I didn't listen and I walked to my house pathway. "Don't forget to lock your car.""And now you understand cars?" He shouted as I wasn't close to him anymore.
"Shut up! It's common sense!" I screamed back and got into my house.
