Chapter Five
Miles
I changed the gear to park in the nearest spot to 'Charlies flavors' restaurant. My stomach was growling; there were no leftovers or Scott at our apartment to cook. So, I had no choice left.
The air curtain hit me for a freshening second as I got in. I scanned around the place; three booths were already filled with people and in a matter of fact the length of my legs wasn't a big fan of booths so a table with chairs would do good. So, I walked to the table's area.
This sensation of 'somebody is watching you' hit me, so I completed scanning the place. I caught a brunette staring at me. Well, it wasn't a felony or something, but she had a guy sitting with her. I already felt guilty for him, so I didn't stare back.
I have no idea what happened to girls these days, one comes to me asking to murder her cousin, and the other stare at me for no reason while she has a guy sitting right in front of her already.
I couldn't fight the urge in my chest to check them out. I spent no time resisting and did. The guilt still kicked in me, so I sneaked my sight up to them. Miss starry still starred at me, but now she was sipping from her soda.
We had a thing between eye contact and a staring contest which I failed to define, but it was really more interesting than the one I had earlier with the shower wall ceramic.
It took me a second to finally identify the back of the guy who's sitting with her. It was Scott's back. I would never mistake that guy even if I'm blindfolded.
He looked back over his shoulder in my direction; probably wondering what is miss starry staring at.
Wait, she wasn't Teressa. Scott can't cheat on her, and he isn't that dumb to bring a secret date to his workplace. I mean yeah, I can cover him up but it's not professional Scott, not professional.
"Miles," He called out to me, and I guess now I hand to go for a handshake or something.
"Hey man, I was just grabbing a take away and leaving," I declared as he bro hugged me.
"No, sit with us!" He said letting go. "That's Milia. Milia meet Miles." Introducing us to each other, he added. Finally, miss starry had a name now.
"Hey," I guess I had to pull out a hand to her for a handshake but maybe she's overthinking from the staring thing. "Is she the one overthinking Miles?" My conscious asked in a sassy tone.
She cut my thoughts short and pulled out a hand. Simply, I took it. "Scott, why do you have to be so classic?" She complained.
"Ayy, This is my best homie Miles, and watch out my fella Milia clashing with ma homie," Scott said as we sat joining Milia.
"No Scott. You sound like a rapper who can't find lyrics and still so desperate for views." She commented biting from her food.
"Although this is so far-fetched I totally agree." I joined her.
"Plus, who the hell repeats the same word in the same line," She continued what she was doing and I nodded agreeing with her.
"You know, I spent a lot of my time thinking how would my favorite buddies crash with each other and now I have the full image," Scott said as a waitress came by and I gave her my order.
Its been really a long while since I hung out with girls other than Elena and my friend's girlfriends. Also, it won't harm leaving a nice impression on a really pretty girl. I missed cuteness. I just needed to act natural.
"So, you still working at this travel agency?" Scott asked her.
"Yes," She replied eating her fries.
"Long story short, I need my tickets to Cuba because I kicked a guy ass. A guy who worked at the agency I used to get my tickets from, remember Miles?"
"Yeah, he literally pulled him by the collar over the counter, set him on the floor, and you can imagine the rest."
"You sure you're talking about Scott?"
"He's cold but not when another guy hit on Teressa." Shit, I mentioned her. The hell, I didn't want to engage with the situation in the first place. Damn.
"Now it made sense. I mean; I know Scott's cold, but you guys are cable of sticking anyone's ass where the sun doesn't shine," she said still biting her fries. "Obviously," she added raising her brows, and Scott wasn't tensed or anything.
"He knew. We are together," Scott grew angry for the memory.
So, she knew about Teressa. I hated myself for making quick assumptions.
"I'll send you all the info I need for the ticket and I'll do it" She also knew that the artistic Scott had a fish memory.
"Thank you, Mi."
"Shut up."
My piccata came and I started eating.
"Leave the man alone!" She yelled and I couldn't get her point.
"What's wrong?" I asked holding my fork in the air.
"He's snitching from your fries!" She said with an attitude and Scott laughed.
"See Mi, that's the difference between you two."
"Miles, you don't mind?" She asked.
"Look, I really don't mind. But hey, these muscles weren't formed with fried food." I tried to convince her.
"If you let him for the sake of muscles; then I would totally let you to."
"Let me?" I laughed
"I'll expand my rule this time for the sake of your looks."
"Tell me about the rule," I looked directly into her eyes as we talked. I wasn't unenjoying it. Especially when she trembled with few words.
"Previously, friends can't share food. Now, friends can't share food unless someone has sexy muscles which he won't abandon over French fries." She looked at me and sipped from her straw dug in the soda cup.
"Rulebreaker coming through," Scott mocked.
"If that's it I agree that you can let me." I smiled, cutting the saucy steak in front of me.
