Quest of A Conqueror
It is all a matter of property:
We give an inch, we take a mile
And we gamble on chance
Only to lose it all in a while.
I give way to madness, I tell myself sternly,
By letting myself sink into dreams.
Now I must work harder than ever
To reclaim the calm I'd lost
And restore the peace I'd disrupted
With all this nonsense with love.
I won't have to lose it all
For I won't be betting on chances,
Because I know it is impossible-
His dreams are on the other side of the globe
And I? I am right here, at home,
Dawdling lately over a crinkle near bright eyes
And a messy head of hai- Stop!
Not again. Enough.
I steel myself and gather the troops of a cynic
To regain my lost composure.
