Accepting how you feel
Whilst ignoring your rational thoughts
Is a hurdle of its own par,
But nothing compares to the fear
That paralyses you, once you decide.
It is the innate cruelty of the human mind-
Prodding you into decision,
Provoking you into action
Only to leave you frozen with apprehension.
After struggling so long to accept it myself,
How am I to convince him to my emotions?
What if he too, like me-
Of course he's like me, friends that we are-
Repudiates this fluttery feeling I get,
And worse, condemns me too for giving in?
Suddenly, it makes sense,
All those women in those books and movies
Who stay silent and leave the men ignorant
Instead of proclaiming their love:
Love is terrible, but rejection is far worse.
