Maybe, Just Maybe
You could keep yourself busy
With a million other things to do,
But thoughts, intangible pests that they are,
Will sneak up on you in brief respites,
Until you are forced to consider them.
It is surreal, yet it feels so real,
And you lose yourself in the possibilities.
I know you will, for I did,
I drowned my sanity in the realm of maybes
Thinking thoughts I once considered silly
Wondering if maybe I was the fool
For thinking fairytales and myths were wrong.
After all, aren't clichés based on some truth,
Doesn't the smoke still belie a spark?
Maybe I am wrong to dismiss this with ease,
Perhaps this could be more.
Mayhap he was a Prince after all,
And if not the most charming,
He was more pleasant than most-
Maybe, just maybe, there may be some hope.
