Hesitant Optimism
The first ray of hope
Is often the most beautiful sight
Much like the lightest tinge of orange
On the edge of the night sky
That heralds the break of dawn.
Picture her now, eyes past despair,
In that realm of numbness and jaded view,
When the first positive thought strikes,
And a tiny spark ignites in the depths
Of eyes accustomed to lack-lustre,
Before being squelched once more.
Not for long, though,
For hope is persistent,
And having found a way in,
Will come again, in waves and tides
To conquer the elusive spirit
And all the darkness will give way
Reluctantly, cautiously, and slowly-
To let optimism seep in.
