Yes, it is true,
One can get depressed
For no reason at all.
There needn't be a cataclysm
Or a crisis of any sort-
Nor is it necessary
For either of those things
To result in depression.
It isn't about being sad,
Contrary to what it sounds like.
In fact, it is the inability to feel anything,
Like a toy bundled in layers of bubble wrap
Being bounced on all surfaces.
It is not for lack of stimuli,
But a sparsity of response.
And like most illogical things,
It too has no real cure,
But time, and painstaking effort
To break the spiral.
