Madeline's POV (5 years old)

"Daddy! Look, look!" I ran into the clinic, carrying a medical flower called Trelope to see him currently speaking to our most frequent patient, who suffered heart disease, Philip. My father, tall and kind looked down at me with his signature smile that can set anyone at ease, including me.

"Oh, what do you have there?" He asked me, gesturing to the Trelope in my hands.

"It's for Mr. Philip! I learned in school that it will cure any disease!" I stated proudly and he chuckled, shaking his head sadly.

"Most diseases my dear. Mr. Philip's case is a special one, I have already tried a Trelope before, which it failed." I huffed in annoyance, turning my attention to Mr. Philip who was staring at my father, waiting for him to continue the conversation they were both having before I ran into the clinic.

"Sorry Mr. Philip! But Daddy will help you no matter what!" I informed him with confidence and Mr. Philip nodded, smiling warmly down at me. He ruffled my green hair, making me giggle.

"May we continue our conversation Doctor Hans?" Mr. Philip asked. Daddy nodded.

"Alright, go along now and play with the other children. Me and Mr. Philip have to finish up business here." I nodded before handing him the Trelope Flower to take care of. I ran out of the clinic and into the small village I called home, Azarion Village. I ran passed many of the villagers, heading to the small playground that the grownups built for me and the other kids to play at in our spare time. I skidded to a stop once I saw how many other kids were at the playground, occupying all of the equipment. I peered around, studying all of the mothers who were looking after the children in case someone got hurt, but they barely seemed to be attention to them at all! Too engrossed in their conversations with other mothers like them. I slowly walked towards the monkey bars, only two kids were playing on them currently.

"Hello sweetie, sorry to bother you but is your father at the clinic?" An old woman came up to me and asked, looking exhausted and frail. I nodded and she smiled, patting my head lightly.

"Thank you sweetie. I will be heading over there right now." I watched her walk away, my eyes on her discolored patches of skin, trying to pinpoint what she needed. My attention on her didn't last too long because one of the kids on the monkey bars, named Alice called to me.

"Maddie~! Hurry up me and James want to play house!" I mentally groaned, getting tired of having to act like the baby. I climbed up the monkey bars, pulling myself up to sit down on them, my legs dangling off of them.

"I will be the mom and... James you be the dad!" James solemnly nodded, his eyes holding sadness. James was a somewhat quiet boy and got bullied often because of his pudgy build. Me and Alice were his only friends that frequented played with him and cheered him up when the local bully would come by and bother him. Recently the local bully started being mean to Alice and I as well, just because of being friends with James.

"What will I be?" I asked Alice who thought for a moment, tapping her chin. I already knew the answer, but decided to ask anyway.

"Hmm... You will be the baby so we can take care of you like a good mommy and daddy! Right James?" James nodded, his cheeks lightly tinted pink. I threw on a fake smile, nodding. I didn't want to be the baby again, but it made them happy.

"Okay~! You hungry Baby Maddie-?"

"Well looks like we got here the trio of babies." A voice from below stated, making us all freeze. I glanced down to see Terence and his two friends, Gabe and Xavier. The three boys were 5 years older than us and were the ones who bullied James often. The local bully and his own two friends.

"What do you want, Terence?" Alice asked with a exasperated sigh, not happy to see him, again.

"Oh you know, the usual. But this time Madeline Hans is going to get special treatment, do you know why?" We all shook our heads, not knowing the reason.

"Well, while you two get the usual knuckle-sandwich, she gets a supreme knuckle-sandwich! Count it as a birthday gift from yours truly." He bowed playfully before standing straight back up.

"But my birthday isn't until tomorrow-" I began only for him to cut me off by grabbing hold of my leg, pulling me off of the monkey bars. I let out a small scream, yelping when my butt came into contact with the muddy ground.

"Owiee..." I whispered, hearing the three older boys laugh at my pain.

"Maddie! Are you okay?!" James suddenly shouted down to me in worry, making Terence laugh harder.

"Aww... Looks like Little Fatty James got a girlfriend~" Gabe teased James and I glared at him, standing up with my fists clenched at my sides.

"Ooo, Gabe I think you made the little doctor's daughter mad~!" Xavier teased with a laugh.

"Maddie, we are coming down right James?" James nodded in response without hesitation, his face flushed red.

"Now, let's give you my early present to you." Terence smirked, drawing his fist back before punching my jaw, barreling me to the ground. The incident becoming unnoticed by the screaming kids around us having fun, oblivious to the bullies standing over me. I cringed in pain, holding onto my jaw that was starting to form a nice yellow and purple bruise.

"Haha! What are you going to do little baby, cry?" Terence taunted, Alice and James finally reaching the ground and running over to me, standing on either side of me in defense poses.

"That was mean!" Alice told him with her arms crossed tightly across her chest, frowning at him. I climbed to my feet, rubbing my jaw where he punched.

"What do you mean little farmer girl? I sincerely gave her a present for her birthday is all-"

"ASSHOLE!" I shouted profanity at him, remembering what my father would call anyone who was a jerk to anybody. James and Alice gasped in shock at me, surprised that I shouted my first curse word. The three boys laughed, slightly taken aback by the profanity.

"Wow! I would have never expected the doctor's daughter to know of such a word let alone say it!" Xavier stated, placing his hands on his hips.

"Oh I'm the asshole now? All I did was give you a gift selfish baby! Do you want another because I can give you another-!" He drew his fist back again and punched me again before Gabe and Xavier punched James and Alice. They laughed as we experienced pain, my short-temper levels rising immensely. It felt as if a rise of energy began to rise up from my feet and to my head, coursing up and down in bursts of strength. I was frustrated, and angry. I just wanted them to stop bothering us, I just wanted them to stop being so mean!

"Cry, cry, cry~! Little babies-" I staggered forward towards Terence before bringing my foot up to his crotch, silencing him from his taunts. He yelled out in pain, grabbing onto it with a clenched jaw and tears in his eyes, experiencing pain in his no no spot. The surge was released from my kick, leaving me back to quivering when he glared at me, a harmful glint in his eyes.

"Why you little-!"

"What on earth is going on here?!" A voice bellowed, a voice I recognized immediately. I turned my head to see Daddy stalking towards us, clearing having seen me knee Terence in the groin. 'He doesn't look happy that I stood up for us...' I thought, bracing myself for the lecture.

"Madeline Eleanor Hans! You should be ashamed of yourself, you know not to bring anyone pain-!"

"But Daddy-!"

"Not another word! You are going straight home do you hear me?!" He shouted, pointing in the direction of our house. My bottom lip trembled, tears springing my eyes as my vision became blurry. "Let me explain-"

"Not another word Madeline!" He stated.

"But-"

"No buts, straight home now!" A tear escaped my eye, the surge returning from the frustration I was feeling towards him, realizing he wasn't going to listen to my side of the story. I pushed passed him angrily, grabbing hold of a stick and throwing it into a tree, with force that I never knew was capable of, snapping it in half upon impact. I ran back home, not caring that all eyes were on me and my tear stained face.

Soon, I made it back. I opened the door and ran in, slamming it behind me and running up the stairs into my room. I laid underneath my covers for what seemed like a half hour until my bedroom door opened, a single set of footsteps walking in. I stayed silent and unmoving, my jaw throbbing in pain from the two punches Terence gave me.

"Madeline dear..." Dad gently placed his hand on my back, only for me to move away from it. He sighed heavily.

"James and Alice told me what happened. I'm sorry that I jumped to conclusions without even letting you tell me your side of the story. And don't worry, you won't have to worry about those boys anymore, they're being punished by their parents. Here let me see how bad it is." I shook my head causing him to sigh again, leaving him no choice but to rip the covers off of me. I hid my face with my hands, my body in a curled up position, clutching tightly to two of my stuffed animals.

"Dear, I need to see how bad it is so I can heal it alright?" After a few moments of silence, I removed my hands from covering my face, facing Dad with the bruise on my jaw. He cringed at the sight of it, cursing silently to himself.

"I'm so sorry, my love..." He enveloped me into a hug, tightly hugging me to his chest. I cringed in pain when the pressure of his chest on my bruise hurt- But didn't tell him to loosen his grip. We stayed like that for a few minutes before he pulled away, kissing my forehead, the kind smile returning to his face.

"Come on, let's try to get the swelling down a bit." He picked me up, letting me wrap my arms and legs around him as he carried my downstairs and into the kitchen. He sat me down onto the table before going to look for ice packs. I swung my legs, patiently waiting for him to return. I went to touch my bruise only to feel no pain when I did so. I mildly shrugged, not caring. Daddy wasn't angry at me anymore, that's what mattered now!

After a few moments, Dad returned with ice only to stop in his tracks once his eyes laid on me, confusion but also realization dawning him. He quickly placed the ice on the counter before standing in front of me, studying where my bruise was.

"So you are like your mother..."
