We walk down stairs and Effie almost balls us over “Where have you been!”She demands as if she has been searching everywhere for us “relax Effie we’ve been on the roof. Why don’t you wake the others and we have a nice breakfast together.”Jacob says sympathetically I just roll my eyes he is such a tormentor “okay,” says Effie “and maybe Haymitch can go over training tactics with you.” She is so happy and peppy all the time it kinda gets on my nerves. It doesn’t take very  long for everybody to gather around the dining room table and an even shorter time for our meal to be served that’s when I notice something one of the avoxes I know him but where do I know him from? IT’S DARIUS!!!! One of the peace keepers in district 12 based at the hob I haven’t seen him since, since oh no! When gale got wiped for killing a turkey.

He had stood up for gale and earned a beating. He must have been turned for protecting a criminal. This is bad. If this is what they did to Darius what did they do to Cray who was replaced, Cray had always been a disgusting asshole paying starving women to have sex with him and he wasn’t forced to do it like finnick was. But Darius was funny Darius was a friend even though I punched him in the face the first time I met him. I had run away from a drunken Haymitch I had run smack bam into Darius who was patrolling the boundaries of district 12. “Hey you’re that girl who just moved here from 4 right?” he asked I was still a little bit scared that Haymitch was following me so all I did was nodded. “Why did you move what’s it like to move in-between districts,” he asked so many questions but all I was interested in was moving finding somewhere to hide out for the night “I didn’t choose to move I was forced too because my brother is a frigging lunatic who already murdered my mother and my sister and now he wants to kill me, my father disappeared ages ago and as for moving between districts you should know you were born and raised in district 2 right?” I snapped he simply asked “why are you so edgy?” “Why do you ask so many annoying questions?” I spat back at him “maybe because you’re an arrogant little girl who should stop pretending to be someone she’s not!” he was clearly angry but he had taken it to far nobody tells me that I’m someone I’m not so punched him and ran off again this is the night I found the oak tree how I wish I could go hide in that big old oak right now

“Nixie, Nixie, Nixie.”Jacob was saying while poking my arm this snapped me out of my thoughts about Darius and bought me back to the real world I will never hear him call me fish guts again I am suddenly aware that everybody was staring at me “what ?” I ask even though I know what the answer is “ you kinda blacked out,” says Haymitch I know he is worried  about me and he doesn’t see it but I don’t need him reminding me every time we talk “oh sorry, so what’s the plan?” I ask probably a little too enthusiastically “well you and Jacob won’t leave each other’s side peeta won’t leave katniss’ I want you to make friends with people from other districts.” This is alright that’s kinda what I was planning except the friends part I’m not exactly social I guess I get that from my uncle “what about me,” whispers  prim she is so polite quite and loving this is exactly why I volunteered she is so fragile the arena would definitely break her she hates seeing people in pain let alone causing it  “you’re coming with me and peeta,” katniss is firm but she is the protective sister someone like prim needs “actually I want you to stay with the girl from district 4 leyrah she will help you out she is one of the nicest people you will ever meet,” Haymitch says as he receives death stares from katniss “I’ve never met her how do I introduce myself?” prim ask worriedly “I’ll introduce you leyrah was my best friend when I lived in four we were inseparable almost like twins.” I say to cheer her up and plus I need an excuse to talk to leyrah about Jason sparrow

 we all get ready and headed downstairs and not many people were there only district 4 district 7 and 3 lasiandra the head trainer starts the lesson only talking to us tributes completely forgetting about our  other members “ in 2 weeks 35 of you will be dead and 1of you will be alive who that is depends on how well you pay attention over the next few days particularly with what I am about to say first no fighting with the other tributes you’ll have plenty of time for that in the arena there are four compulsory exercises the rest will be individual training my advice to you is don’t ignore the survival skills everybody wants to grab a sword  but you’ve seen how many people die of natural causes 10 percent from 20 percent from dehydration. Exposure can kill as easily as a knife. Many of you have seen firsthand how bad these games can get. So survival tactics will refresh your memory.” she dismisses us and before leyrah can escape I have introduced prim and they start talking   but I interrupt “ hey rar 'finnick tells me that you and sparrow are together now you have to dish come on spill,’ I almost beg before she tells me “please don’t tell finnick but Jason and I have been dating since peeta and katniss’ victory tour almost 6 months,”  I could tell that Jacob didn’t really want to be around this girly talk “FYI he has suspicions so you may want to clear that up now I got to go Haymitch wants us to make friends,” I say and skip of towards the knife throwing range Jacob and I are pretty good with knives but he is the best with a spear and I’m best with anything to do with aim (except spears to heavy), hand in hand combat and climbing  so I’m going to find a way to combine  the three somehow. We go over as Brutus starts throwing some he gets three deadly hits but not bull’s-eyes Jacob gets a bull’s eye and smirks “beginners luck,” I laugh he just jokes and pokes me “your just jealous,” I miss on purpose and he knew that I could hit the one I was aiming for easily  this attracts Brutus’ attention “here let me show you,” his big masculine body lent over me and positioned my hand in the perfect position and he rocked back and I let it fly completely missing the one I thought I was aiming for but hitting a bull’s-eye on the dummy behind it “whoa,” is all I can manage to say  Brutus smiles and laughs “pretty cool once you know what you’re doing , it was  nice meeting you nixie you too Jacob,” he says and jogs off to the spear station we throw some more knives being sneaky not showing of our skills to much after another 3 rounds I ask him “where do you want to go next,” he points over to the pool and says with a smirk “you could teach me how to swim,” I laugh but we head over there any way prim and leyrah are there as well.

 We are handed a pair of swimmers each and are told to change I’m the first into the pool and I almost give the instructor a heart attack when I enter without a lesson first “I was born in district 4 I didn’t move until I was 11 so I know how to swim,” I explain. Leyrah and I take turns teaching prim and Jacob how to swim that’s when Matthew joins us Jacob and I had started a water fight against leyrah and prim and we were laughing hysterically I didn’t even notice until leyrah rolls her eyes and comments “oh joy hey prim can we go this guys a creep,” prim and leyrah leave whilst Jacob and I make room for Matthew. I kiss Jacob just to annoy Matthew and then Matthew comes up to us and says “hey nixie it is really good to see you again I didn’t relies you could become so pretty over just 4 short years ,” he gives Jacob a death stare and I don’t know what to say if there weren’t so many peacekeepers around I would of punched him in the face but it is Jacob who stops me “ hey buddy back off I don’t know what happened between you 2 while nixie was in 4 but her home is in district 12 I’m her boyfriend and you’re not so don’t look at her like that and definitely don’t think of her in that way.” Wow I thought Haymitch was protective over me. I haven’t seen Jacob like that before he carries me out of the pool and we go get changed back into our clothes. “Where next?”he asks I lead him over to the knot tying station where Betee and Wiress from three were trying to tie a simple noose the instructor showed us how to do it and we finished pretty easily “how long have they been here,” I asked the instructor nodding towards Betee “a while can you try to help them? they may be smart but they are truly hopeless at knot tying,” I find this a little rude so I try to help them any way they understand better once I show them a different way to tie it I also show them a range of other knots that katniss and gale have taught me the instructor was now glaring at me I was relieved when the bell sounded for lunch. I had now noticed that Jacob had been glaring at Matthew the whole time that I was teaching Betee and Wiress. I pinned him against the wall “what the hell? Nix,” he exclaims but I cut him off before he can continue “what the hell yourself why are you being so hostile towards Matthew?” I demand “I haven’t been hostile, it’s just I don’t like the way he looks at you and he talks about you not to you,” he replies I feel sorry I shouldn’t of snapped at him the way I did I something that I know he will take as a joke “oh come on Jakey you heard leyrah he is a creep you don’t have to feel threatened,”  he laughs “ok but can you get off me now or do I have to force you to get up,” I give him a silly look and kiss him hard “I’m not moving,” he picks me up and throws me over his shoulder we get weird looks when we finally enter the dining room someone moved the tables together and there are only 2 free chairs left next to leyrah and Matthew “behave,” I warn him as I slide into the seat next to leyrah and Jacob the one next to Matthew after lunch more training more people to talk to blight and Johanna come up to us and start talking asking what’s going on between us and other things like how much Haymitch hates them time to go back upstairs now.

“You want the nerds and an old lady they’re really going to help you win this is why we don’t let you make the decisions,” Haymitch exclaims he is being kind of a jerk. I wanted to team up with Betee and Wiress but katniss was asked first so she gets the lecture “Haymitch, Betee and Wiress would be good allies they could set up a trap that could kill the rest of the opposition isn’t that how Betee won when he was in the games,” I say defending both katniss and the others “oh yippee just what I need a smart ass,” he replies sarcastically and walks away. The next couple of days pass and nothing really changes katniss and I still want Betee and Wiress as allies but peeta want us to join up with the careers if that happens I will kill most of them in their sleep and take off.
