Chapter 14: Understanding Men's Needs

The evening air was calm as Namjoon and YN sat comfortably on her living room couch, the silence between them soft and inviting. Namjoon’s eyes trailed across her face as she sat nervously beside him, hands clasped tightly in her lap. He noticed how uncertain she seemed, and it was in these quiet moments that he wanted to help her understand not just her own needs, but his as well.

"You’re nervous again," Namjoon observed, his voice gentle. YN gave a small nod, her eyes flickering to his before darting away again. She still wasn’t used to this the openness, the closeness, the idea of exploring something she had kept tucked away for so long.

Namjoon shifted a little closer to her, their knees brushing softly, and YN felt a familiar flutter in her stomach. "It’s okay, YN. I don’t want you to feel pressured, but I think it’s important that we talk about this. There’s more to what men want than just the physical stuff you might think."

YN’s brow furrowed slightly. "Like what?" she asked hesitantly.

"Well," Namjoon started, choosing his words carefully, "for men, it’s not just about sex. Sure, physical attraction and touch are important, but there’s more to it. There’s connection, emotional closeness. It’s about feeling wanted, appreciated… loved."

YN glanced at him, slightly confused. "But I thought men were more… physical."

Namjoon gave a soft chuckle, shaking his head. "That’s a common misunderstanding. Yes, men have physical needs, but it doesn’t mean we don’t crave emotional intimacy too. Sometimes even more than you might think." He paused, looking deeply into her eyes. "For me, it’s not just about the act. I want to feel connected to the person I’m with."

YN listened intently, her heart racing slightly. No one had ever spoken to her about intimacy like this before, let alone a man. It felt... different. More real.

Namjoon reached out, gently taking her hand in his. His thumb traced soft circles on her palm, and YN felt herself relax under his touch. "Men need to feel safe, too, YN. We need to feel like we can trust the person we’re with. Like they’re not just interested in us physically but emotionally too. That’s why… when I’m with you, it’s different. I feel like I can be myself, and that means more than you know."

His words made her feel warm inside, but also nervous. She wasn’t sure she was ready to explore all of this. "But… I don’t know how to make you feel that way, Namjoon," she whispered.

He squeezed her hand gently. "You don’t have to do anything you’re not ready for. I’m just here to guide you, help you understand. Tonight, we don’t need to rush anything. We can start with simple things."

YN gave a small nod, appreciating how patient and gentle he was being. She had expected a much more direct conversation, but this was different. Softer.

Namjoon shifted again, this time turning to face her fully. "Touch is important, YN. Not just sexual touch, but affection. Things like hugging, holding hands, even just sitting close like this they’re all part of men’s needs, too. It’s about feeling like someone is there for you, physically and emotionally."

He leaned forward slightly, his hand moving to cup her cheek, his thumb brushing gently against her skin. YN’s breath hitched as she felt the warmth of his touch. "Can I show you what I mean?"

She nodded again, unsure of what to expect but trusting him all the same.

Namjoon moved closer, his hand trailing down her cheek to her shoulder. He pulled her gently toward him, until their bodies were lightly pressed against each other. His other arm wrapped around her waist, holding her softly but firmly. YN could feel his warmth envelop her, and for the first time, she allowed herself to relax fully in his embrace.

"This is what I mean," Namjoon whispered into her hair. "It’s not always about sex. Sometimes, it’s just about being close, about knowing that the person you care about is right here with you."

YN closed her eyes, letting the moment sink in. She could feel his heartbeat through his chest, slow and steady. It was comforting, in a way she hadn’t expected. She hadn’t realised how much she had craved this kind of closeness until now.

After a few moments, Namjoon pulled back slightly, just enough to look into her eyes again. "How do you feel?" he asked, his voice soft.

"I feel… safe," YN admitted, surprised by her own words.

"That’s good," Namjoon replied, smiling gently. "That’s what I want. I want you to feel safe with me, always." He brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, his eyes never leaving hers. "And when you’re ready, we can explore more. But tonight, I just wanted to show you that men’s needs aren’t so different from women’s. We all want connection. We all want to feel loved."

YN smiled, her nerves slowly fading away. Maybe this wasn’t so scary after all. Maybe, with Namjoon, she could learn to open up. To trust.

Namjoon pulled her into another hug, and they sat there for a while longer, wrapped in each other’s warmth. The night was quiet, the only sound being the soft rustle of leaves outside the window. And for the first time in a long while, YN felt at peace. She wasn’t alone anymore. She had Namjoon. And maybe, just maybe, she was ready to learn what love really meant.
