Chapter 4: Day 4
The fourth day of October dawned, enveloping Elena's room in a soft morning darkness. The young girl, discreet by nature, preferred to stay at home rather than venture out. Her room was her refuge, her sanctuary from the torments of the outside world. She spent most of her time there, searching for answers to the questions that haunted her.
Elena was getting ready for a day at home. Her long black hair slipped through her fingers as she carefully brushed it in front of her bedroom mirror. The soft glow of the bedside lamp highlighted the paleness of her complexion, but in her large, dark eyes there was a resolute determination.
After carefully brushing her hair, she tied it into two pigtails, one on each side of her head, which she secured with black ribbons, giving her an air both practical and reminiscent of her childhood.
When she rummaged through her wardrobe, she opted for simplicity, choosing comfortable clothes for her day indoors. Dark jeans fitted her slim figure perfectly, while a sober, casual t-shirt completed her outfit. She slipped on soft, comfortable socks, ready to spend the day exploring the mystery of Lilith from the comfort of her bedroom.A final check in front of the mirror, a light adjustment of her comforters, and Elena was ready to face a day of research, determined to find answers to the questions that tormented her, whatever obstacles stood in her way.The previous day had been frustrating. Elena was growing impatient, unable to bear not having answers. Yet she still wasn't brave or reckless enough to contemplate returning to the cemetery. The very idea of venturing into that gloomy place terrified her.
So, once again, she decided to return to the Internet, her only link with the outside world. She opened her computer and began searching for information on Lilith, hoping this time to find something more concrete. She visited forums, specialized websites and delved into historical accounts, in search of answers. However, her frustration grew as the hours passed. The information she found was often redundant, imprecise or irrelevant to her research. Elena felt as if she were going round in circles, as if the mystery of Lilith was deliberately eluding her. Then a new, unexpected element came into play. While browsing a free social network, she noticed a user with the name "IamLilith". Just seeing the name written on her screen sent a shiver down her spine, rekindling the curiosity and anxiety that had been tormenting her.
Elena hesitated for a moment, wondering whether she should contact this user or not. The name "IamLilith" disturbed her deeply, but there was something in her intuition that urged her to take a chance. She finally clicked on the user's profile and discovered a minimalist one, with no photo or personal information.Despite her reservations, Elena decided to send him a private message. "Hi, I'm Elena. I need help solving a mystery linked to Lilith. Can you help me?"She waited anxiously for a reply, wondering if she'd made a mistake in contacting this user. Finally, a message appeared on her screen."IamLilith: Hi Elena. I'm here to help. Tell me what's bothering you about Lilith."Elena felt relieved that her attempt at contact had been successful, but she remained wary. She briefly explained her discovery of Lilith's diary, the strange phenomena surrounding her and her desperate search for answers.
"IamLilith" replied quickly, showing a surprising understanding of the situation. "I understand your curiosity, Elena, and your concerns are legitimate. Lilith is a complex mystery, but there are avenues to explore. Have you considered visiting the city library? Sometimes the answers aren't to be found on the Internet, but in old books and archives."Elena hadn't considered this option yet, but the idea of looking for answers in books reassured her. "That might be a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion. But how do you know all this?""IamLilith" didn't answer immediately, leaving her identity a mystery. Finally, a message appeared on the screen. "I have my sources, Elena. Some things can't be explained online. The library might be a good place to start. I encourage you to go there as soon as possible."Elena felt both relieved to have found a lead and intrigued by this mysterious online encounter. She thanked "IamLilith" for her help and prepared to put this new suggestion into practice.
In the meantime, she kept the idea in mind so she could tell Finn about it later that evening, when he'd finished his lessons. Perhaps together they could unravel the mystery surrounding Lilith and the enigmatic diary. The fourth day of October continued with the dawning hope that the answers were at hand, in the pages of the old books in the town library. The evening of the fourth day of October arrived, plunging Elena's room into darkness. Sitting at her desk, she had been looking forward to the moment when she could tell Finn about her discovery. She reached for her cell phone and dialed her cousin's number. The phone rang a few times before Finn picked up. "Hi Elena, how are you?"
"Hi Finn," she replied, her voice laced with excitement. "Listen, I've discovered something really interesting today."
Elena wanted to share her find with Finn, but hesitated to reveal how she'd come up with the idea. She didn't mention her online encounter with IamLilith, preferring to keep that to herself, at least for now.
"Oh, really?" said Finn, intrigued. "What is it?"
Elena briefly explained her discovery of Lilith's diary and the strange phenomena going on around her. She didn't mention her online conversation, but rather that she'd heard about the library as a place where she could find information.
"I think the library might be a good place to start finding out more," she said to Finn. "I'd love to go there this weekend, if you'd like."Finn thought for a moment. "The library? Hmm, that could be interesting. We could do some research together."Relief flooded Elena at Finn's answer. She hadn't been very brave to propose the idea herself, and she was grateful that Finn had suggested it. "That's an excellent idea, Finn. Thanks for going along with it."
They then discussed the details for their visit to the library, setting an appointment for the coming weekend. Elena was eager to learn more about Lilith and the mystery surrounding her, and she was grateful to have Finn by her side to help her solve this riddle.
After hanging up with Finn, Elena sat in her room, lost in thought. The mystery of IamLilith continued to haunt her, an enigmatic virtual presence whose motives remained obscure. Yet, despite her intrigue, she had chosen to keep this online encounter to herself, a decision dictated by a certain mistrust and the fear that Finn would worry for her safety.
She was aware that she was sailing into uncharted waters, exploring digital territory on the edge of the strange. IamLilith seemed to have intimate knowledge of Lilith and the diary, which raised new questions. Who was this person? Why had she contacted Elena? And above all, could she trust him?As she plunged into these thoughts, a strange sensation came over her. Her body seemed to freeze, caught in a state of incomprehensible paralysis. She wasn't sure whether she was in a conscious sleep or whether this was reality. An unpleasant sensation invaded her, as if an invisible presence were scrutinizing her, probing her mind and soul.Time seemed to dilate, seconds stretching to infinity, and Elena felt both vulnerable and powerless. She tried to move, to scream, but her muscles refused to respond to her commands. It was as if she were trapped in a waking nightmare, a state of total paralysis.
The night of the fourth day of October was now silent, but Elena could feel the excitement and uncertainty building inside her, heralding days to come filled with discoveries and mysteries to be solved. She wasn't sure what lay ahead, but she was determined to get to the bottom of this enigma, to pierce the veil that hid the truth about Lilith and the enigmatic diary. She curled up under the covers of her bed, her heart heavy, seeking comfort in sleep, knowing that what lay ahead was far more disturbing than any dream or nightmare.
