Yibos POV

„What do you want to talk about?" I asked my brother unsure.

"First promise me to listen till the end." My brother asked me.

"....."  
Did I already mention that I have a bad feeling about this...?

"Please Yibo. Do me this favor" My brother pleaded.

"Alright. I will. You better don't say you will getting married. You are not allowed without my permission." I said.

"First: How do you get that idea? I will not getting married. I don't even see someone right now. 
Second: If I would say I want to get married would really deny my wish?" he asked me.

"At first yes. Because you didn't even introduced her to me. I would be really mad. But if you really love her then of course I would be happy." I answered truthfully.

"Thank you Yibo." Brother smiled. "But that is not the topic I would like to discuss with you."

"Then? What is it" I asked.

"I want to adopt Xiao Zhan." My brother said and waited for my reaction. 

"Of course you can. You ... wait WHAT??" I am shocked. 'Did he just said what I think he said??'

"Yes Yibo. You heard right" he said. He is doing it again. He always knows what I am thinking.

"Why? How?" I cant comprehend what is going on right now.

"Listen to me carefully Yibo and please let me finish talking" he asked me. I could just nod.

"The last two days I observed Xiao Zhan. He is a shy but good boy. I don't know what happened to him but I want to find out. I want to help him to overcome this. He doesn't speak but we don't know if he cant or just wont. He doesn't like it to be touched too much....."

So my brother told me what he experienced with Xiao Zhan in the last two days. I just listened as I promised him. 

After he finished speaking I felt there is more he didn't said but I am probably too shocked about all of this so maybe I just misinterpret this feeling.

"You told me now what his condition is, but you didn't explained a good reason why you want adopt him. For me it sounds like any other patient of yours but you didn't adopt them. So why him? And if you want to help him you can just visit him. Explain it to me so I can understand." I said while trying to calm down.

"Xiao Zhan needs help. No one knows how to help him but I feel like I can. He is used to me now and it seems like he likes me. I am used to him too and I really like him. It feels like I know him since a long time." my brother explained.

"How can you be sure you help him with an adoption?" I wanted to know.

"Xiao Zhan is in that orphanage since he was 5. He was adopted a lot of times but always send back. Now he doesn't even want to be adopted anymore and is trying everything to prevent that. Because he thinks he will send back nevertheless." He explained.

'Still why is he the one adopting him? Just because he is used to him now? That Xiao Zhan was there since he was 5? Then the teacher or the director should be used to him too...But if he really is used to my brother and I try to prevent this I am the bad guy... I mean I want to help that boy too but ... like this?'

My brother observed me and I am pretty sure he knows what happens in me right now.

"Xiao Zhan needs someone he can confide in. He needs a family, Yibo. And I want US to be that family" my brother explained. I took a deep breath.

"And now? What am I now?" I asked my brother.

"What do you mean?" he asked confused.

"Am I an uncle now?"

"You...!?" my brother looked at me in shock. "You mean you are okay with me adopting him?".

"First: Even if I am against it you would adopt him nevertheless and you probably told the director of that orphanage already. Second: You are right. He needs a family and if he is used to you then it would be an advantage. And you wouldn't choose to adopt him if you didn't like him. I will try my best to help him too. Third: You didn't answer my question. Am I an uncle now?" I asked.

My brother stood up and hugged me tightly. I smiled. 'I can feel he is happy.'

"Yes you are. I will adopt him as my son. Even if he is just 10 years younger it doesn't matter. Age is just a number and I raised you too since you was 14. Thank you so much Yibo. Thank you" he said an I felt something wet on my shoulder.

"Don't you dare to cry, Liu Hiakuan." I said sternly but couldn't hide my smile. I felt him laughing.

After my brother calmed down we sat back on the couch. "When did you fell your decision?" I asked.

"It was a few hours ago while I was observing Xiao Zhan. And like you said I already talked to the director." my brother said.

FLASHBACK

"Director. Lets go back to your office" Haikuan said.

"Why that, Dr. Liu?" the director asked confused.

"I have an offer to make and I really hope you will approve it"

Both went back to the directors office.

"Please sit down Dr. Liu."

"Thank you" Haikuan sat down and looked at the director while smiling.

"Would you like to tell me what that offer is you were speaking of and why you are so happy right now?" The director asked and laughed a little.

"Yes. I would like to .... I would like to adopt Xiao Zhan. I want to give him a family who cares and loves him. Please approve it." Haikuan said, stood up and bowed to the director.

The director was shocked. "What did you say?" he asked.

"Please let me adopt Xiao Zhan" Haikuan repeated still bowing.

The director was unsure how he should answer. He was thinking for quite a while and during that Haikuan kept on bowing.

"Ok first of all stop bowing. Please sit down." The director said. Haikuan sat down. He looked at the director with a friendly yet determined look. "Do you know what you just said?" The director asked.

"Yes, I know. I also know that the man from earlier this day is also resolute to adopt Xiao Zhan. But please... you know the state he is in. And you know how he reacted when that man approached him with the goal to take him. And you realized that he wanted to adopt him because of his looks. He don't know anything about Xiao Zhan and he didn't even wanted to listen because for him it doesn't matter. But Xiao Zhan needs a family who he can rely on. Who can help him back on his feet. A family who cares and loves him just like he is  even if he will stay in this state. I want to give him that family.... I want to be this family." Haikuan started to explain.

The director wanted to say something but Haikuan didn't let him and continued.

"Xiao Zhan knows me and I know him quite good as well. He seems to like me too. He is  lonely. I have a 19 years old brother at home and even if he doesn't say it out loud I know he is sometimes lonely too. I raised him since he was 14 as our parents died early but I did it. For him I was not only his brother but his father, his mother and his best friend as well. I know I can do it. They would understand each other. Maybe not right away as Xiao Zhan needs time to adjust but at the end he will."

The director opens his mouth again  but Haikuan still didn't stopped talking.

"I am sure Xiao Zhan will be happy too. I know I am only 25 years old but I can be a good father for him. I and my brother will be the family he needs..."

"Dr. Liu!" the director interrupted him.

"Please director. I WANT TO TAKE XIAO ZHAN HOME!" Haikuan shouted and bowed again.

It was quite for a few minutes but then .... the director started laughing. He laughed and laughed. Haikuan was unsure what to do and thought the director is laughing at him. He was sad. 'Do I really have no chance ....?' he thought and wanted to cry.

"Dr. Liu I understand" the director said after he stopped laughing and stood up. Haikuan stood up too and suddenly he found himself being hugged by the director. He was confused. 'What does that mean?' he asked himself.

"Thank you, Dr. Liu. Thank you for loving our Xiao Zhan. I am happy to finally find someone who wants to adopt him for what he is and not just for his looks. I am truly thankful. I approve it. I will draw up the adoption papers right away." The director started to cried.

"Yo .. you approve? I can take Xaio Zhan home with me? For real?" Haikuan asked to make sure he didn't misheard.

"Yes. You can take him home tomorrow. I observed you the last two days and saw how much you like Xiao Zhan and you really want to help him. And I saw as well how Xiao Zhan reacted to you. Thank you so much Dr. Liu."

Both man hugged each other or a few minutes before both of them sat down again. 

"I would like to tell Xiao Zhan myself that I will adopt him if that is alright with you." Haikuan asked.

"Of course it is. How about you will come tomorrow a little bit earlier? I am afraid that gentleman from today will come again like he announced today. I hope you can take Xaio Zhan home before he comes and makes trouble." the director answered. "By the way does your little brother know that he will get a nephew by tomorrow? And does he know Xiao Zhans ... characteristics?"

"He knows a bit but not everything and I will tell him later when I am home." Haikuan smiled.

"Do you think he will approve of Xiao Zhan?" the director asked concerned.

"Yes he will, even if its just for me. My brother is like I said 19 and is in his first year of University. I know he will be shocked first but I know he will be okay with it. He himself was quite ... angry when I told him that Xiao Zhan was send back after adoption several times." Haikuan said and smiled.

"That is good to hear. I will make the papers ready by tomorrow morning. When will you arrive here?"

"How about 7am?" Haikuan asked.

"Perfect" the director smiled. "Then I will wait for you at the gate like usually. But I want to tell you something else." the director said.

"What is it?" Haikuan asked curious.

"Tomorrow is Xiao Zhans birthday. And you adopting him would be the best gift he will ever receive. I am sure of this" the director said and smiled.

END OF FLASHBACK

"But its already 11pm. Go sleep now. You will have to wake up at 4am if you want to be there at 7am" I said.

"I will. Yibo what will you do tomorrow?" My brother asked me.

"I will have to take care of the garden as our gardener is still sick. I will cook too when you tell me what Xiao Zhan likes to eat. And I want to gift him something too as its his birthday after all. And after you told me what happened everything during your visits I think I know what my present will be." I explained my plan.

"He eats everything. But Yibo I have a request" he said. "Can you please clean the bedroom at the second floor? I want Xiao Zhan to move there. I hope that is okay with you?"

"On my floor? I don't really have a problem with that but ... Why cant he move into the bedroom at the ground floor?" I asked. Even if I don't have a problem with him moving next to me ... I liked it that I had the 2nd floor for myself only.

"I don't want him to be alone at one floor. I want him to feel home because this will be his. And I also have an idea what we will do with that empty stock room on the 2nd floor." my brother smiled.

"Alright. I will clean up everything. Can you do me a favor? I have that gift in mind. I wont tell you what it is exactly but can you please ....." I whispered my request in his ear.

"I don't know exactly what you are up to but ... I can do that. And I think Xaio Zhan wouldn't want it to be different. It seems like he loves it very much." My brother said.

"Nice! And now hurry up and go to sleep" I said to my brother. He smiled at me and went to his room.

'So I am an uncle now, huh? His birthday is tomorrow and mine is in two months so my nephew is 4 years younger than me... oh well. Lets go to sleep know I have a lot to do tomorrow.' I thought.

3rd POV

In the next morning after a short breakfast and 2 cups of coffee Haikuan drove to the orphanage. The director waited at the gate and both men went to the directors office.

"Here are the papers. There are two copies. You will take one and i will take one" the director said. "You have to sign here and here" he showed Haikuan where to sign and explained him what Haikuan has to do if he wants to cancel the adoption. 

"Thanks for telling me. But I will definitely not cancel it." Haikuan said.

"I hope so too" the director smiled. "Lets go to Xiao Zhan now. He should be awake by now." he said and both went up to Xiao Zhans room. "Do you want to speak to him alone or should I go with you?" the director asked.

"I will go alone." Haikuan said.

"Then I will wait for you both downstairs. As Xiao Zhan doesn't have much things he owns, that one luggage in the wardrobe should be enough. I wish you good luck" the director smiled and went back to his office.

Haikuan took a deep breath and opened the door.

Xiao Zhan was indeed already awake. And like usually he sat on the windowsill and look out of the window. "Good morning Xiao Zhan. Did you sleep well?" Haikuan asked.

Xiao Zhan moved his head to the door and after a few seconds nodded it slightly but enough for Haikuan to see it. Haikuan smiled. He went to the boy and turned him around so he can see his face but of course Xiao Zhan looked on the floor instead of Haikuans eyes.

"Xiao Zhan, I know its your birthday today so I have a gift for you" Haikuan waited to see if Xiao Zhan would show any reaction. He didn't.

"Xiao Zhan. Congratulations. You will be adopted again." Haikuan said.

Xiao Zhan started to panic. He tried to free himself but Haikuan didn't let him.

"Xiao Zhan... Xiao Zhan listen to me ..." Haikuan tried to soothe him but it didn't work. Xiao Zhan kept on struggling and tears were falling down his cheeks. Haikuan is shocked 'Why? Is he that terrified to be adopted again? Does he really think it would be better to just stay in the orphanage?' he asked himself.

Haikuan was so deep in his thoughts that his hold on Xiao Zhan loosened. Xiao Zhan broke away and wanted to flee out of the room. He was almost at the door but Haikuan caught him, turned him to himself and tried to soothe him again. "Xiao Zhan calm down. Please calm down. Don't you want to be adopted again?" Haikuan asked. Xiao Zhan shook his had violently and kept crying.

"Are you sure? What to do then..... I already signed the adoption papers and I really want to take you home... Do you really don't want to come home with me?" Haikuan asked and smiled at him.

Xiao Zhan was shocked and for the first time since he came to that orphanage he looked into someone else eyes ....into Haikuans eyes.
