Tears are falling of Xiao Zhan's face. 'That is the first reaction I got from him' Haikuan was shocked but happy. Xiao Zhan wiped away the tears with his sleeves. Haikuan stood up. "That is my secret, I hope you will keep it. I never told anyone about this so it was liberating to finally be able to. Thank you for listening to Xiao Zhan." he said and smiled. "Let's go back".
Xiao Zhan took his bunny and hid it in the bushes after stroking it a few times. Haikuan smiled seeing this.

After they arrived at his room, Xiao Zhan sat at the window and started reading again. 'He does nothing else than reading, drawing, or looking into the sky... He doesn't get a change in his routine. He doesn't get bored. Moreover... it seems like he is Young Master Wei but... I am still not 100% sure... how can I find out ...?' Haikuan is deep in his thoughts.

At 1 pm Xiao Zhan suddenly walked to the door and left the room. Haikuan looked up and started following Xiao Zhan to .... the dining hall? 'What is he doing? Dinner is in another hour... but the director said he never eats at this time....'  Haikuan followed him quietly. Xiao Zhan stopped at the door as he saw the staff preparing everything. 'Is he hungry?' 

The director saw them and walked up to them. He looked to Xiao Zhan and then to Haikuan "Dr. Liu? What can I do for you?" he asked a bit confused seeing Xiao Zhan at the dining hall at this time of the day.

"You told me that he is not eating during noon but now it seems like Xiao Zhan is hungry... he suddenly walked here," Haikuan said.

"Oh? Strange... the food is already finished we will let him eat now. The other kids will start eating a little bit later than usual but I think that is okay." He gave the staff a sign and they started serving the food for Xiao Zhan.

"Director?" A teacher shouted and came up to us. "There is a gentleman who wants to adopt one of our kids," he said smiling. 

"I am coming right now. Mr. Goo?" The director called for one for the caretaker. 

"Yes, director?" he answered. 

"Let Xiao Zhan eat in peace. Dr. Liu will accompany him. When he finished you can call and bring the other kids. There are at the playground in the garden right now."

"As you wish" Mr. Goo walked back to the kitchen.

"Dr. Liu, although it's a little bit confusing, I am happy that he came down to eat. I made sure he can eat it in peace. I have to greet that gentleman now. See you later." He said and walked away. 

Haikuan saw Xiao Zhan walking to the table and sitting down. But he didn't eat. 'Is the food too hot?'  Haikuan thought. But even after 5 minutes, he didn't start eating. He walked up to the boy and wanted to sit next to him. As the boy didn't back away or showed any other sign of discomfort Haikuan slowly sat down. "Xiao Zhan? Why are you not eating? I thought you are hungry?' he asked him. 

Xiao Zhan moved his head slightly in his direction without looking up.

"Xiao Zhan?" Haikuan asked again.

Suddenly Xiao Zhan moved his plate to Haikuan. "You ..? You want me to eat?" He asked the boy surprised. After a few seconds, the boy slowly nodded. 

He-!? Did he really answer my question? I can't believe it. He is opening up to me!' Haikuan was very happy. 

"How did you know I was hungry? I didn't eat since yesterday. Thank you very much, Xiao Zhan." He said and started eating while Xiao Zhan without looking up moved his head into Haikuan's direction every few minutes. 'He wants to be sure I eat... I remember this morning he didn't see me eating and was concerned.'  Haikuan smiled. 'But he still is avoiding eye contact at all cost. Why? Why are doing this Xiao Zhan? What happened to you?' Haikuan thought.

After dinner, Haikuan cleaned up and both walked together out of the dining hall. In the hallway, they meet the director together with a man in his 30. 'Where do I know him from? He looks familiar...' Haikuan thought. When that man saw Xiao Zhan he stopped walking and stared at the boy. "Him! I want to adopt him!" He said and walked up to Xiao Zhan.

He tried to hold Xiao Zhan but said boy widened his eyes, backed away, and hid behind Haikuan. 

"What's wrong, boy? Come here... I want to adopt you. Let's go home together, alright? I have a little brother who my parents adopted from here too a few years ago. But he seems to be a little bit lonely too just like me. I will be good to you. Come here, kid." The man said and tried to get a hold of Xiao Zhan.

"Excuse me, but as you can see Xiao Zhan is very shy." The director said and quickly came up to them. "We have a lot of other kids who are looking for a family. Why don't you see them first?"

"I already said I want to adopt this boy... Xiao Zhan, you said is his name?"

"Yes, but Xiao Zhan is a little bit difficult to handle as he is very special. I will tell you more about him and then you can decide if you want to adopt him or not." the director tried again. 

"You don't have to. I will adopt him. I don't need more information. Come home with me Xiao Zhan." The man said and gabbed Xiao Zhan's hand.

'No, you will not...' Haikuan thought but before he could intervene Xiao Zhan shook his head violently, pulled his hand out of the grip, and run away. "I will go after him, director," Haikuan said and run after him.

Just as he arrived at the stairs which lead to the next floor he saw Xiao Zhan standing on the stairs with his back facing Haikuan. He looked to his left and then to his right and then .... he let himself fall. Haikuan widened his eyes in shock and jumped to the front to catch him. "XIAO ZHAN!!"

With Xiao Zhan in his arms, he ran to the infirmary. The boy had a little laceration on his forehead as he hit it on one of the stairs while falling down. Haikuan caught him on time so Xiao Zhan didn't get any worse injuries. The boy slept peacefully now and Haikuan and the director are standing at the door while talking. They didn't want to wake him up.

"Except the laceration, he doesn't have any more injuries." The director said as he saw how worried Haikuan is. 

"What is with that gentleman who wanted to adopt him?" Haikuan asked him. 

"I send him away but he said he will come again tomorrow."

"Why? You didn't even give him any information about Xiao Zhan... he knows nothing about him. He doesn't know what he needs. So why does he insist on adopting him and him only?" Haikuan asked him annoyed.

"Like I told you yesterday, most of the people who want to adopt him doing it because of his looks." The director sighed. "But I am worried as well. That gentleman didn't seem to want to adopt anyone other than Xiao Zhan. How can I prevent that? I have to give him a very good reason. As he seems to be someone who gets what he wants I am afraid he will adopt Xiao Zhan even if I gave him the information about him" 

Both men went silent for a moment. Then the director spoke again. "Please can you now tell me what exactly happened? Why did he fall from the stairs, Dr. Liu?"

"When he ran away I followed him. He was standing on the stairs and after he checked if anyone is near he let himself fall. It seemed like ...." 

"Yes?" 

"....like he doesn't want to get adopted again. Didn't you tell me this happened two times already?" Haikuan asked. "I think maybe ... he believes he will get send back again anyway...so why not stay here forever..." He explained his thoughts. 

Haikuan saw Xiao Zhan moving and looked at him. 'He is about to wake up.' Haikuan thought as he sat on the chair next to the bed. When Xiao Zhan opened his eyes he closed them right away and turn to the side.

"Xiao Zhan.. are you alright? Does it hurt a lot? I am sorry for not preventing you from getting hurt." Haikuan said while stoking Xiao Zhan's head. "Please don't do this again. You scared us." Xiao Zhan didn't react. It was quiet in the room for a few minutes.

"It's time for dinner, let's go eat Xiao Zhan" The director suggested as he walked to the bed. But as Xiao Zhan didn't move the director looked clueless at Haikuan and shrugged. 

"Xiao Zhan you have to eat. Or you will be weak. Let's go together okay?" Haikuan asked. 

First Xiao Zhan didn't react but after half a minute he stood up and walked to the door. The director smiled when he saw this. 'He seems to like Dr. Liu.' 

When they arrived at the dining hall and Xiao Zhan sat down he didn't start eating but waited till Haikuan sat next to him. "Let's eat together Xiao Zhan," Haikuan said. During dinner, Haikuan is thinking about what happened today. 'He seems to have gotten used to me even though I accompany him only since 2 days now... but still... he is not looking into my eyes. Why did do this today? It was just like Young Master Wei back then. It should be him... His looks, his drawing skills, he likes rabbits and he let himself fall .....?'

After dinner, Xiao Zhan didn't go back to the infirmary but went back to his room.
"Do you really don't want to sleep at the infirmary tonight? What if you are in pain?" Haikuan tried to persuade Xiao Zhan but the latter didn't react and went back to his room. He sat at the window and looked outside. Haikuan looked at the clock. 'It's already 8 pm...'  he realized.

"Xiao Zhan I have to go now. I hope you sleep well this night. If you are in pain go to the infirmary ok? I will be back tomorrow quite early." Haikuan said and went to the door. Xiao Zhan sighed.

Haikuan stopped walking turned around and looked shocked at Xiao Zhan who still looked out of the window. 'Did he just sighed? I didn't mishear...right?' Haikuan thought. He waited a few minutes before he went out of the room. The director awaited him in front of it and together they left. 

'Young Master Wei or not ... this boy needs help as soon as possible' Haikuan thought on his way back to his car. As he was about to see the director off he saw that female teacher who guided him to the director's office yesterday standing in front of the orphanage and looking up worried. He followed her gaze and was shocked yet again. Xiao Zhan was sitting with his legs crossed on the rooftop of that 25-meter high building while looking at the sky. His long hair was blowing in the wind. "Director! What is going on?" Haikuan asked and pointed at Xiao Zhan.

"Not again...." mumbled the director. "I am sorry. I forgot to tell you that Xiao Zhan is doing this sometimes. As he didn't do it for quite some time now I hoped he wouldn't do this anymore. But it seems like I misjudged him. He will sit on that rooftop at night and look up into the sky. Sometimes but rarely he is doing this during the day too. After a while, he will go back to his room through the window. Some of our teachers are on night watch so we can prevent the worst. We told him that this is dangerous and he should stop this but .... as you know .... no reaction. He likes the rooftop and we don't want to lock him up in his room." The director explained. 

"Director. I am not leaving now. Let's go back to your office" Haikuan said.

"Why that, Dr. Liu?" the director asked confused. 

"I have an offer to make and I really hope you will approve it," Haikuan answered smiling without taking his eyes off Xiao Zhan. Now he was 100% sure. 'Xiao Zhan is Young Master Wei.'
