if you or your book doesn't make it to the next round, it's probably because:

• we (the team) caught you throwing hella shade which automatically disqualified you from the contest

• your book was either written or finished before august 1, 2016, which means that it doesn't qualify

or

• you weren't nominated enough

if you think the whole throwing shade will automatically disqualify you thing is petty then too bad, so sad. the reason why we're doing is because there is absolutely no reason to shade or trash talk other readers, writers, and books. if you're that pressed over a book or a writer that ain't worried about you, then sis you need help and you need it quickly.
