Chapter Sixteen: Not Forgiving Myself

Doing a last minute check up, I patted my white hair that was swept into a whirlwind cascading down my back. Dusting off imaginary specks of dust off my sky blue dress embroidered with winter snowflakes. I took a deep breath before going on stage, I smiled at the cheering crowd and blew a few kisses too. Caesar Flickerman stood on stage with a huge grin on his face.
"Winter! Welcome."he said cheerfully
"Hello Caesar, you're looking well,"I stated looking uneasily at his crimson wig
"So just a few question Winter, are you glad you survived?"he questioned looking at me
"Not really, I mean I'm glad I'm alive and all but, I'm just really upset that Daniel couldn't be here with me."I said looking down so they couldn't see the tears welling up in my eyes
"Ah yes, Daniel Kilman. The young boy from District 7, such a shame. Such a shame."
I looked at the ring glinting on my finger, I had refused to take it off even when they were doing a full body polish on me.
"So will you ever forgive yourself?"asked Caesar gently
I smiled,"You tell me, would you forgive yourself knowing you had murdered?"
"Well I'll take that as a no then. Is there anything you'd like to say to the Game Maker?"
I shook my head no. The president stepped out and came towards me behind a girl with chestnut brown hair followed him, in her hands a red cushion with the victors crown upon it. As the president came near me I bowed my head whispering a hello, he smiled at me kindly before placing the victors crown on my head. Caesar leaped up excitedly and grabbed my hand lifting it up.
"There you have it! This years victor, Winter de Angelo!"
The crowd cheered loudly nearing bringing the house down.

District 2
Oceana's grave was as I requested decorated with the colors of the sea, she had always loved the sea. I placed a single white rose on her grave, and wished her a happy afterlife.
I carried on putting white roses on every districts grave. I stopped when I reached District 7's grave. I knelt at Daniels grave and smiled sadly, tracing the patterns of his grave. It was decorated with elaborate designs. I put a red rose on his grave. I blew a kiss to Daniel and left to put roses on the other districts graves.
