The room smelled of blood and rotten meat. I covered my nose, but Liam didn't. Maybe the stink didn't reach of affect his nose. Whatever, my smell receptors were bombing my brain with messages.
Kumar and Elizabeth entered, holding hands. William gasped. I felt his pain- to see his only family betraying him. They smiled evilly, and Kumar passed me a smirk. He made me feel sick.
"What is going on?" Liam asked them, demanding for an explanation to what he was seeing.
They laughed together. It did not seem funny to me at all.
I recognised Elizabeth- she was the same woman whom I had seen at the Church. She was beautiful, tall and well built, in her mid-20s. I pitied the young girl, who had to waste her life because of such a nasty and ugly, cruel woman. A woman who couldn't sympathise with such a loving brother, such a wonderful person.
But the most shocking of all was Kumar. I recognised him instantly. I was horrified. I shook my head- left to right, right to left, but the truth would not change. James had succumbed to Kumar, and now James looked lifeless.
"Yeah." Kumar said, reading my thoughts, "your love interest."
"You killed him!" I yelled.
"Killed? No! I possessed him." He corrected me.
"When?" I cried.
"Just at the moment you refused him your company." He laughed arrogantly. "A date was all he wanted, Sarah."
Was I responsible for what had happened to James? I felt so bad for him.
"Brother, hello." Elizabeth taunted.
William's face twisted in pain. He was hurt. He was betrayed after all, and that also by the girl he had trusted the most.
"Yes brother. I am not good. I am with Kumar. You couldn't figure that out for years, and I never even wanted you to know that, till she came." Elizabeth pointed towards me.
"And you." She said, looking at me, "William had shortened his name to Liam, and you didn't even realise. I was also about to enter the villa with the name Eli and then possess you. Like Kumar did James."
I looked at her with rage.
She continued, "But then Kumar identified your power, and warned me that your life force was too strong. And that I won't be able to survive in your body for long. I tried it at the Church, and guess what? He was right!"
"I know the secret to you, Sarah. I know how to put your life force to the right use, and so, I won't kill you now." Kumar whispered in my ears, in James' voice. "Even Elizabeth doesn't know this. But honestly I myself haven't seen a life force so strong in my spiritual life ever. But lone that I've found you, I'll put you to the right use."
Put you to the right use. The very thought of his right use made me shiver.
"Brother, do you want to know what really happened that day?" Elizabeth asked.
Liam nodded. I looked curiously towards Kumar, waiting for an answer.
"So, I was just a regular servant in the Hargreaves residence. My full name is Blaise Kumar. My father was Indian and mother was English. I had come with the Hargreaves family from London, after all, I was their most faithful and loyal servant."
"I had grown up with Blaise, and when I was fourteen, he had proposed me. I had gladly accepted. After all, I didn't distinguish between the high class and low class, like my family." Elizabeth taunted.
"We never did that." Liam objected.
"Shut up. You and your family did. What when your father had turned down a low class woman-"
Blaise was cut short by Liam.
"That woman was a seducer. She tried to come close to father. And Eli, you know that."
Elizabeth turned away. I was so ashamed of her.
"So anyways, after a few years, we fell in love. We made love, and we wanted to spend our entire lives together. But I knew my family would never agree to it." Elizabeth said.
"You should have asked us. We would never have refused." Liam said.
"Stop lying." Elizabeth snarled.
Kumar took over. "So we decided to kill the family. We had already killed Mr and Mrs Hargreaves, but on Elizabeth's request I decided to excuse you."
"What?" Liam cried.
He smiled. He was enjoying this. "So when you interrupted our plans, Elizabeth was reluctant to kill you. She loved you."
"I still love you brother. I don't want to hurt you." She explained herself.
"In a hurry, I stabbed her. It was just by mistake. And then there was no one to stop me from killing you." He said. He didn't even flinch while describing how he killed his love, while implied that he couldn't have possibly loved her. But that's what I thought.
"And then, of course, you killed him William." Elizabeth added.
"Shame on you. You killed your entire family." I said to her.
She ignored me completely.
"And now, we all have a Purpose to fulfil. Right?" She said.
Liam and Kumar nodded.
"But you've got the bodies, right? That means you don't need me anymore." I said.
"You can go. You're free. Right, love?" Elizabeth asked, looking at Kumar, who looked like James.
He smiled mischievously and nodded. I looked at William, who gave me an approving look, as if saying that I could trust them.
"That means Liam is free too?" I asked, looking at Elizabeth.
Kumar said, "Maybe. Depending on our Purpose."
"Don't you know it?" I asked.
"Yes, we do." Elizabeth and Kumar said in unison.
