I opened my eyes. It took me some time to adjust to the lights.
"Where am I?" I asked.
"The hospital." Liam answered.
I got up. "What had happened?"
"You were in a coma." He released his breath. "I was so worried."
We kept staring at each other for sometime. I always knew his soul was pure. His eyes had told me so the moment I had seen him.
"I have a lot to tell you Liam. A lot." I said.
"Your car is okay now." He informed me. "And here's the crucifix. I recovered it from the Church's floor."
"Thanks." I said. "Thank you for everything. You're so different from the guys I've met before."
"Maybe because I'm from a different time." He laughed.
"You joked with me for the first time. That's a good sign I guess." I added.
He laughed again. He made me smile too.
Someone knocked the door. Rafael and James entered the room. Liam exited.
"Are you okay girl?" Rafael asked.
"Yeah fine." I replied, shocked at how timid my voice sounded to me.
Rafael smiled. "And guess who your friend James called here."
I saw my parents, worried for me.
"No, no, no." I shook my head. They can't be here. Not now, I cannot see their lives in danger.
"Are you okay beta? I was so worried for you. Take care of yourself." Mother said.
"My jaan, what did you do to yourself? Come back to Delhi please." Dad said.
"No. I'm fine here. Rafael, please, drive them back home. Immediately."
Rafael nodded.
"Thanks. You are a true friend." I said. As Rafael began to leave for his car along with my parents, I stopped him.
"Wait. Keep this crucifix, and always keep it with you. Never separate it from you or the car while my parents are in it. And while you are in it."
"But-" Rafael began.
"It's not about religion, it's about faith. In Him." I said.
He nodded again. As my parents walked away, I whispered, "I love you both."
"We love you too, beta." They said in unison. I couldn't help it; a tear escaped my eye.
"Allahafiz." I said.
Rafael left with my parents. James looked at me and stroked my cheek with his fingers.
"You're fine?" He asked.
"Yes." I replied.
"You're good with hospitals."
"I'm a doctor, James." I said.
"So did you see something bad? Spirits?"
I laughed. "What if I say yes?"
He sarcastically thought and replied, "Then I'd say that you're lying, and that you should get some rest."
He laughed.
"I really like you. As in, I would love to give us a chance."
I froze. What the hell was he talking about?
"Excuse me?"
"A date maybe?" He said.
"I woke up from a coma, and you're thinking of a date? James, I'm not into you. I'm sorry I don't want to be rude but-"
"Every girl's into me, Sarah. You'll realise it too. Soon."
"I know me, James. I'm not into you. Really. I wish you the best."
James became very angry. He marched out of the room fiercely.
Seriously? I mean I didn't like him. I wonder why he felt so. He was such a regular guy, and so egoist. I mean, what did he mean by "every girl's into me, Sarah"? I mean how can a person be so crazy? And when he realised I said no, and his ego shattered into pieces, he left the room arrogantly. But currently, I had more important matters to attend to.
Liam entered the room. I smiled at him. He smiled back.
"James didn't look too pleased." He said.
"No?" I asked, acting as if I didn't know what he meant.
He laughed. "I'll say nothing." He said.
"Now, what was the important thing you wanted to tell me?" He said, while sitting down on the chair beside me.
"I had asked Father before he was stabbed by her."
"Her?" Liam asked. I nodded.
"So it's a girl?" He asked this time.
"Your sister." I said.
This made him angry. He stood up fiercely.
"No way are you talking like that about her."
"You want to hear the truth? Then listen." I said.
