BEA told me she wanted our first date to be a little special. She enumerated the things she wanted to see, experienced and received from me. Akala ko biro lang lahat kasi ganun naman siya lagi. That she's serious about those things.

And for the sake of my love for her, I made it happen. Claudel booked a spot at The Brooklyn Diner and ordered a piece of red rose somewhere. Basta sabi niya, ibigay ko daw kay Bea iyon. Nabanggit din naman iyon Bea na kahit malalanta lang gusto pa din niya makatanggap ng tunay na bulaklak. I suddenly felt unschooled about modern day dating.

I can't help but shake my head in disbelief.

As a US citizen, I am only allowed to leave the country for six months or less to avoid conflict with Homeland Security. Pwedeng isang taon basta may valid reason na maaaring ibigay sa kanila. May validity ang green card ko na pwedeng i-renew kada sampung taon. In my case, all of my documents, such as my passport, both US and Philippine, are still valid.

"Hindi ba aksayado masyado sa pera? Hindi naman Cavite-Alabang lang Brooklyn at Pilipinas, Max."

"Money isn't an issue to me,"

"Sa akin issue 'yan."

"Mag-aaral ako ulit. Hindi muna kita mahuhulugan kasi gagamitin ko para sa pamasahe pauwi yung huling sahod ko kay Madam. Yung ibang ipon ko pansimula namin ni Lola at ang matira gagamitin ko sa school."

"Is that enough?" Tanong ko.

Kulang anim na buwan lang siya dito at kahit na sabihin na malaki ang kita niya noon sa panloloko, hindi pa din sapat para makaipon. Akala lang naman niya na nahuhulugan niya ako pero ang totoo, hindi ko na kinukuha yung bayad sa singsing na binenta niya. Nakalimutan ko na din naman ang tungkol doon.

"Pagkasyahin. Mag-apply ako ng trabaho kapag nakuha ko na schedule ko sa school. Maraming university sa Manila na libre ang aral at problema na lang uniform at libro."

"Tell me how much you need; I'll fund it."

"Sugar Daddy?"

"Kailangan ako ni Lola sa Pilipinas,"

"I need you here, too, Bea." I sigh heavily after saying those words to her.

Tumayo siya at lumapit sa akin. I wrapped my arms around the small of her waist.

"May ilang linggo pa ako dito. Ipasyal mo ako sa Manhattan tapos mag Disneyland tayo at sa LA. Gusto ko makita yung Hollywood sign pati yung Walk of Fame." 

Pag-iiba niya sa topic namin. Para gumaan na din siguro ang pakiramdam na bumabalot sa aming dalawa. I smiled at her.

"Alright, let's go on a trip."
