4; Park
Addie Johnson
I finally set up and put away all my basic things in my room, and my dad has done the same for his.
So my dad drove around a little bit a scoped out the neighborhood to find a little park. Well, more of an open area with trees and paths leading to small benches.
I decide I'm going to go there.
I really have nothing else to do, and I need to get outside. I feel cooped up inside from moving and Beth won't answer my Skype calls, it is only 11:00am and she's known to sleep until 2:00pm though.
I go downstairs from my room to see my dad in the kitchen. "Hey dad, which road do I go down to get to the park again?" He laughs. "Getting outside now, eh? It's about time." I slap him lightly. "Okay, walk down our block, Mills St., then take a right and go down Allen Av.. Then hook another right and it should be there."
"Ah, thanks dad I'm totally not confused." I roll my eyes. He laughs again. "Don't worry, you'll find it." I sigh and hug him goodbye.
"Have fun! Don't get mugged!" He waves and yells from the kitchen as I go through the the garage door. "Thanks, I'll try not to!" I yell back, now closing the door. My dad's pretty weird, but I love him anyways.
I slip on my black converse and lace them up. A warm breeze goes through the garage. I guess dad was working on somethings since the door is open.
I walk out and start going down our street. "Mills St., Allen Av., hook a right." I say to myself, now taking the "hook to the right."
I see the park now: It's not giant, but it's decently sized. It's just right. "Reminds me of home." I take a breath and cross the street getting to the other side where the park is.
I walk over to one of the benches and sit down. It's a nice warm day for summer, because it's not actually roasting.
After a little bit I see four boys walk along one of the paths that leads a bench, so about three benches away from mine. Huh, that sounds weird.
Three of them have guitar cases, and one carrying a box. Ah, a drum box. My brother played drums in his band. I wonder how he's doing. I'll call him later.
My brother, Ray, is 26 years old, and he's still living back home, in his own house, with his girlfriend. And he's doing gigs all over town with his band still.
The three boys with the guitars took a seat on the bench, and the one sat on the box. They had stacked two guitar cases neatly on top of one another next to the bench, and one out front to collect tips, I'm guessing.
The one on the drum box has a starting beat, then the sound of guitars fill the air.
Calum Hood
"What do you guys wanna do?" Luke asks. We're at Michael house again. "You know, let's go play in the park." Ashton suggests. We all agree.
Michael has three guitars at his house, and Ashton leaves his drum box here for practices. We grab our things and head out, walking down the streets that lead to the park.
We cross the road leading there, and go to one of the benches. Luke, Michael, and I take our guitars out and Ashton sits on his box.
I notice a girl a few benches away, dark brown hair. I couldn't see her face because she was looking at her phone in her lap. I look back at Ashton and nod, signaling for him to start.
He gave a starting beat, then we started playing. Luke started singing the beginning of VooDoo Doll, an original we wrote. It came to the chorus, and Michael and I joined in.
Some people started to gather around and I just smiled. They were smiling too, and that's what I wanted. For people to be happy.
I look back the bench where I saw the girl with brown hair before, but she wasn't there now. I look back over and see she's standing off to the side, listening.
She was simple, but really pretty. She smiled once she caught my glance at her. I smile back and keep playing.
We played another two songs we wrote, and finished. There was a little round of applause and a few dollars thrown in the case, then the people faded.
Other then the girl that sat on the bench awhile ago. She actually approached us. "You guys are really good. Are you a band?" Her eyes seemed bright when she asked.
Ashton answered her question. "Thanks, that means a lot." He smiled. "And yeah, we're a band." "5 Seconds of Summer." Luke added in.
"What are your names? If you don't mind, I mean." She seemed almost nervous when asking. "No, it's totally fine." Michael said, reassuring her. "I'm Michael." Michael said and smiled. "I'm Ashton." Ashton said. "I'm Robert." Luke said.
Everyone just kinda looked at him. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding. I'm Luke." He made a goofy grin. The girl giggled and a hand covered her mouth. Giggled.
"And I'm Calum." I smiled at the girl. She smiled back. "And what's your name?" I asked. I was really wondering. "I'm Addie." She smiled again. "I like that name." Ashton said. The girl blushed and Ashton looked down, smiling as well.
"Well hey, it was nice meeting you Addie. We'll see you around here again? We play here often." Luke says. "Yeah yeah, I'll come by again." Addie smiles.
"Well we got to get home- or to Michaels house so he won't get in trouble for going out without telling his mum. I know, it's pretty weird at this age." Luke says, whispering the last part as if it's a secret. Addie laughed.
The boys started to pack up there things and walk off , making sure to wave to Addie goodbye. She waved back at them. I kind of hung back because I wanted to talk to the girl.
"It was very nice meeting you Addie." I said and she looked at me. "You too, Calum. Hey, can I ask you something?" She asked, looking back over her shoulder again, watching the boys turn the corner.
"Yeah sure, what's up?" I'm somewhat nervous what she's going to ask. Normally when a girl talks to me aside its like they're trying to get with me, and that gets annoying because I'd actually take care of a girl.
"Could I have your number? So you can like, text me when you guys play again or something? To talk? I don't know I just moved here and I don't know anybody." She kinda mumbled the last part. Just moved here?
"Yeah sure, I don't mind at all." I smiled to reassure her. "Here, let me see your phone?" She nods and pulls out a phone from her pocket.
She unlocks it and hands it to me. I type my number in and send a text, "hey, it's Addie (it's actually Cal :P)" I hand her back her phone, now digging my hands in my jeans, and she giggles at the text I sent myself. "I can promise you, I'm not some creep like other guys, okay?" She laughs, nodding.
"So I'll text you?" She asks. I nod. "Yeah." She smiles and I return it. "See you later." She turns and starts walking down the path. "See you." She looks back again to smile, then turns around again and keeps walking down the path.
I smile to myself.
I got her number.
