Chapter 6~ Tiny Box Tim
I woke up to an afternoon sun beaming down on my face. I was in a different house and Iggy was watching over me with a slightly concerned look on his face.
As I sat up and rubbed my eyes, a man came in who had strawberry blonde hair, red eyes, and was wearing a... wizard costume? He had a black cape, a white and green dress shirt, black pants, and black boots.
"Good! She's awake," The man said, "Arthur, I have the results, can you please bring her downstairs?"
"Sure," Iggy replied.
As the wizard left the room, Iggy picked me up, made the bed, and took me out of the room. In the hallway, I gazed upon a high ceiling with old dim lights. The carpet was sullied red and the walls were occupied with ancient paintings from long ago. This place looked a bit scary, some places were more dark than others and some doors gave off weird auras. I think that I'll scratch off "exploring" on my to do list for this place...
When we finally reached the basement, Iggy put me down at the bottom of the stairs and bent down to my level.
"Olivine, You can look around while I talk to Vlad, Okay? Just don't touch anything. Oh! And watch your step."
I nodded and held my hands behind my back to show that I wouldn't touch anything. I'll be sure to watch where I'm going too.
As he walked off, I examined the place to find many eccentric things. Plants with supernatural abilities, jars with invisible substances, tubes filled with colored waters and floating bubbles, a poster that read "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows", a library full of books in different languages and text, spells, enchantments, fables, equations, even weird squiggly things... lots of weird squiggly things...
This place wasn't exactly clean either. Papers, books, dust... mostly dust, was scattered all over the place in random places. I found books on top of bookshelves, under tables, on top of papers, and even in doors. Yes, they were in the doors, I don't even know how that's possible...
As I started to cross the room, I over heard Iggy and Vlad's conversation. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but they were talking about me.
Maybe they know something...
"Are you sure? This seems quite impossible..." Iggy said as he was checking over a chalkboard.
"I'm certain of it. I've calculated and recalculated so many times that this has to be right. There's no other answer to this..."
"Well, when you put it that way, you have a point. But that wouldn't explain why all her scars are healed except for one."
Except for one?
I pulled away from the conversation to see what they were talking about. I found a full body mirror a few steps away and I immediately knew what they were talking about. All of my scars were gone, except for the one under my right eye. It doesn't make any sense... why were they healed? Shouldn't it take longer for them to go away? I don't think that humans have this fast of a healing process... am I even human?
"Considering her... identification issue, I think it's safe to say that she had forgotten how to use most of her magic," Vlad concluded as he flipped over the chalk board. "It's too early to make a complete conclusion, but I have a theory to how certain things trigger her memory and her power. Let's take the rain water for an example, you said that everything she touched turned green, correct?"
"Correct."
"She was outside when this happened, right?"
"Right..."
"Well that's simple, her power has something to do with nature. Also, the dreams she keeps having... it's easy to say that someone is trying to tell her something important, or is trying to warn her..."
Before I could listen some more, A faint voice caught my attention and in the back of my head.
"...Come to the door..."
I turned around to find a tall black door wrapped in old yellow caution tape. An eerie aura emitted from its surface as the voice in my head was heard from the other side.
"...Come to the door... don't be scared... come to the door..."
The voice became a whisper as it echoed throughout my head, everything around me became unimportant as my senses focused on the door. This voice was different from the one in my dream, this one sounded more like... me... But how?
"Come on Olivine, I can answer all your questions... you won't be a burden on them anymore..."
A burden?
"You thought you were welcomed? Ha! What has the world taught you? That you will be accepted by everyone? That people would drop everything to help a poor retarded girl like you? You must be so~ special!"
Retarded? What are you talking about? Why are you even bothering me? Who are you and why do you want me to come towards a creepy door that might harm me?
"Ugh! You're so innocent, it sickens me! No wonder you were cast out from the world!... Ahem, anyways... I can help you. I know who you really are, why you're here, and what your power has to do with you."
If you know so much, why don't you just tell me now?
"I can't do anything from this side of the door, you have to open it and let me in. Rip off the tape and open the door..."
Hmm, how about... No!
I turned around to walk away, but something pulled me the opposite direction. I felt invisible hands tugging on my arms, pulling me backwards. Small, soft, cold hands wrapped around me and forced me against the door. I couldn't call for help or even make a noise, my voice wouldn't operate. The door was inches away from my back and I franticly tried to grab onto anything to make a noise. I could feel the cold air breathing down my neck as my world started to fade to a saddened gray.
"Come on Olivine, you are me, I am you, I wouldn't hurt you. Help me help you, I promise you'll make it out alive..." The voice chuckled.
My heartbeat sped up, the other voices returned, and my scars became clear as day, causing me more pain than was even imaginable. I tried to pull out of her grasp, but she was too strong for me. My back hit against the ice cold door and the rush of ecstasy began to kick in. With all my might, I tried to break through the urge to relax, the ice cold touch feel like heaven on my body, but I can't give in, I know I can't give in.
"There, now just pull off the tape, let me in..." She echoed as my fingers were centimeters from the ancient yellow caution tape.
Resisting, pulling, squirming, all to get away... but it seemed all for naught as I felt the tape almost crumble in my hand.
"Yes! Now pull it! Pull it now!" She madly urged.
No... no, never! I want to stay with them! I want to kno--
"Olivine!" Iggy called, tearing me away from my nightmare.
The voices, eerie aura, and caution tape evaporated from existence as if it was never there. I looked at myself to see my scars healed, except for the one under my right eye. The tall door returned to its old brown, dusty state.
Did I just imagine that whole fiasco? But, everything seemed so... real... WHY ARE THERE SO MANY FREAKY THINGS HAPPENING TO ME?! WHAT TH--
"Olivine?" Iggy called again, more concern in his voice.
"C-coming!" I replied as I gathered myself from a mental breakdown.
Placing my hands behind my back again, I made my journey into the maze of books and paperwork. Although, this place was really spacious and my short height isn't helping me see over things. I ended up either going in circles or almost tripping over books.
At a corner of the room, I found a horde of small boxes that fit my size. At first I walked past them and left my curiosity in the dark. But the snooping part of me decided otherwise as I found myself staring down into the tempting entrance. I looked back to see if Iggy came looking for me.
No sign on bushy brows, I'll just take a quick peek...
I turned back to the box and ducked inside. My arms were too short to reach whatever was at the bottom, so I leaned in some more. So much to the point where my feet lifted off the floor and were suspended in the air. As I finally reached the bottom and was starting to get out of the box, the box swallowed me... literally.
"Oof!" I grunted as I was tossed in and scrunched up in the box.
The flaps closed quickly before I was
given a chance to jump out. I pushed the top flaps with force, but they didn't budge. I punched the flaps with all my inner strength, but besides the fact of the whole box jumping a few centimeters forward, the flaps were unfazed.
Great, now you're stuck in a box. Great Olivine! Great! Just great!
Well, maybe I could punch my way to Iggy, I would be going 2 centimeters per hour, but I'll get there...
"Olivine?" Iggy called, a little closer now.
"I-In here! I-Iggy!" I replied, punching the box to make noise and to move.
"Why does your voice sound muffled?" I could almost hear his foot steps.
"I'm l-lost in a box~!" I admitted.
"My goodness child, how did you get lost in a box?!" He called from not so far away.
"I-I dunno~" I made a pouty face. "It's k-kinda dark in h-here..."
"I'll find you Olivine... where are you?"
"L-Listen for-"
Da-Dump
"The b-box t-that's-"
Da-Dump
"M-Moving o-on it's-"
Da-Dump
"Own!"
Da-Dump!
Da-Dump!
Da-Dump!
I rapidly pounded on the side of the box in hopes that he could follow the sound. And to my luck, I heard his footsteps approach the outside. I heard a light tap on the top of the box for conformation.
"Are you in this one?" His voice was soft and sweet... good thing it's dark in here...
"Y-yes... help..."
I could hear him trying to pry off the flaps himself, but they still didn't give in, they stayed together as if they were glued down.
"Hmmm... maybe Vlad can help me..." He mumbled.
I felt the box being lifted off the floor and into careful arms. Iggy moved carefully to not shake the box too much, but I was perfectly fine... besides being just a tad bit cramped. Soon after, I was placed back down on the floor... I think. Iggy and Vlad started talking again.
"Olivine has gotten herself in quite a dilemma..." Iggy started.
"T-The box s-swallowed me!" I finished, "The f-f-flaps won't o-open!"
As you can tell, I'm not scared, just cramped.
"Oh dear, she must have climbed into the new boxes I ordered..." Vlad sighed.
"The boxes you ordered?" Iggy questioned.
"I wanted to try a new experiment that involved some explosive results, but it required a container that wouldn't open under any circumstances. So I ordered some enchanted boxes off the black market." Vlad explained.
I heard a facepalm and a groan.
"Let's just pretend I didn't hear that, anyway, how do we get her out?"
"Well..." Vlad seemed distant.
"Well?"
Silence
"Vlad!"
"Okay! Okay! I... I actually don't know how to get her out..."
"What?!" Iggy and I exclaimed in sync.
I don't want to be in a box forever! I still have things to do, places to be, people to meet, I don't wa--
"There has to be some spell around here that we can use..." Iggy sighed as his footsteps became farther away.
"Read the advanced books first, the most complex spells seen to work the most." Vlad replied as his footsteps traveled the other way.
Wait? They're leaving... no, wait come back! What about the buddy system!? What about the- oh they're gone... Schnitzel...
~ Some unknown time later ~
I heard soft footsteps next to the box, I stayed still and kept my breathing as quiet as a mouse. This place is so creepy, it could be crawling with weird people. There could be a third person that I don't know about, monsters could be--
"Olivine? Are you alright?" Iggy interrupted my train if thought.
"..."
I decided to stay quiet, I wonder what he's reaction will be...
"Olivine?" A hint of worry escaped his mouth.
I heard him bend down and felt him slightly shake the box.
"Olivine?" Worry was now fully clear as day in his voice.
"Hey, Olivine... say something..."
I almost cracked a laugh, I was smiling so much that my cheeks felt like they would be stuck forever. I just wanted to see his reaction. It serves him right for leaving me!
"O-Olivine?"
I couldn't hold it anymore, a full on laugh exploded from my mouth. He actually thought I was dead! How could he be so gullible!
"That wasn't funny you git!" He whined as he playfully kicked the box.
That only made me laugh harder, plus it was somehow comfortable to laugh in this position.
"Maybe I should just leave you in there!" He retorted before I heard him walk away.
My laughing immediately stopped. He can't just leave me in here, forever... he just can't.
"You're kidding, right?" Worry surrounded my words.
"..." I didn't hear a thing.
Did he really leave me?!
"Get back here you git! You can't just leave me here!" I shot back at him.
But silence wafted through the air as his footsteps became farther and farther away.
"Iggy?..." Tears started to swell in my eyes.
I actually think that he just left me... but Vlad will be back, right? I'm just a small defenseless child who needs help growing up in this world! You can't leave me in a box for the rest of my life! When I grow, the box will be too cramped! I'll be--
A British chuckle was heard from a short distance away. Is he? Toying with me?
"Did you actually think I would leave you? Haha, serves you right for scaring me!"
I could just tell that he gave me a stern look from outside of the box. I made a pouty face and wanted to clobber him for doing that, but I guess it was fair.
"F-Fine... now w-were even... c-c-can you get m-me out now?"
"I certainly can," Vlad said as he returned.
"Will the enchantment take long?" Iggy asked.
"No, I just have a request for Olivine," I heard him bend down, "Olivine, when I give the word, I want you to roll out in any direction, okay?"
"O-okay... w-what if I d-don't roll away in t-t-time?"
"Well... then you're stuck in there forever..."
"WHAT?!" I shouted.
"Don't worry, you'll get away, I promise!" I could sense some uncertainty in Vlad's voice.
"Well... here goes nothing..."
