Chapter 3~ HERO!
Another tall handsome man entered the room, he had short blond hair with a cowlick sticking out of his head. His Bright blue eyes fell perfectly together with his huge childish grin that appeared on his face. He held a brown bag in his right hand and I was quizzical about its contents.
"Who are you calling to?" Iggy asked.
"No one" He said as he shut and locked the front door, "I've just always wanted to say that!" His face shined with sudden excitement.
Iggy rolled his eyes as the cute blonde's attention panned over to me.
"Whoa... rainbow eyes is awake!" He exclaimed.
Rainbow eyes? Oh! He means me.
The blonde placed his bag in the fridge before he sat in the chair adjacent to mine. He wore glasses just like Mattie did and their faces looked similar too.
They must be brothers... how cute!
"Alfred, she says her name is Olivine." Mattie said as a warm fluffy scent wafted through the air.
"Olivine? Cool name dudette! What country are you?" Alfred asked.
"Al! You can't just ask her that, she may not even be a country..." Mattie's voice was so quiet that I almost missed that last part.
"Of course she's a country! She was even dressed the the gown and ribbon. Plus, Only a country could live with that many scars and bruises."
I guess Alfred was right, I did have a lot of them. They covered my body in every visible place. Only my face was perfectly unscathed... well except for the scar that was under my right eye.
But a country? Isn't that how the land is divided? By people who have gathered together to create a place to live? I'm a country? Countries aren't humans... are they?
"She might be a capital, city, state, or town," Iggy suggested.
"I'm not missing any states though... I'm pretty sure I have all fifty." Alfred was deep in though.
"Here Olivine," Mattie placed a plate full of golden brown, fluffy, heavenly scented pancakes in front of me, "Be careful, they're a little hot."
Mattie poured a maple scented liquid on the pancakes, then he cut them into little squares for me. My mouth watered at the sight and light scent.
"Oh, let me get you some--" Was all Mattie could say before I ate with my hands. Rebel score: 2 points! Who needs utensils? Although they were a bit hot, I didn't care. They were so warm, soft, and fluffy!
But my happiness went downhill as I looked at Mattie and Alfred, they were staring at me with quizzical faces. Then I realized it, the sticky maple syrup was drizzled and all over my hands. But not just my hands, it was also running all up and down my forearms, slowly reaching the ground below. The worst part was my face, which Alfred couldn't stop laughing at. I could tell that he was thinking dirty thoughts.
"It's- It's- It's everywhere!" I managed to shout.
I heard Francey laugh and Iggy was trying so hard to keep in a chuckle. Mattie's face looked lit up with embarrassment as he grabbed me and placed my arms over the sink. With one arm he held onto my little body, and with the other he turned on the faucet, letting the warm water clean all the stickiness off my arms and face. After I was clean once again, he placed me back in my chair and sat on my left side, sitting across from Alfred.
"Let's try eating with a fork this time," Mattie softly said, "It's easy, just place the pancake on your fork and put it in your mouth."
Seems simple enough...
I did exactly as Mattie said and I succeeded. I guess eating with utensils is more civil... Humans have evolved...
After Pancakes, I wondered upstairs to explore. Climbing up the stairs was even more fun than going downstairs. I felt like an adventurer going on an exploration into the unknown. I know I was just up here, but hadn't gotten my fill of snooping. Although, Alfred was following me, making sure I was safe and all, so I wasn't very secretive.
Examining all the doors that might lead to Narnia, a certain door caught my eye. A strange language was written on the door, it said 'The Hero's Room' I can't quite read yet, so I'm not sure what it means. I stared at it for a good while before facing Alfred and pointing at it.
"You wanna go in there?" He asked.
I nodded and waited patiently as he opened the door. Alfred's room exploded with three colors that cradled his room. The only colors I knew where white and blue... okay I also know the colors Brown and green but that's all I know. The other color was dark but bright, I don't recall the name though.
As I strolled into the room, my eyes set on yet another miniature figure of a larger object. As I toddled over to the desk where it sat, Alfred sat on his bed to read something. I couldn't tell what it was but it had a lot of pictures in it.
I wonder if they can teach me how to read? Or write? If I can't talk, then writing is the next best thing!
Before I asked Alfred questions, I made noises to get his attention. He looked back at me and realized that I wanted something.
"What's up Dudette?" He asked looking away from his picture book.
My hands pointed to the green object on his desk, it looked like a statue of a woman in a gown, she was holding a book in one hand and a torch in the other. I tried my best to stand on my tippy toes to reach it, but it was too far up for my hight.
"Here, let the Hero come to your rescue," Alfred called.
He slid off the bed and stood above me before he scooped me up into his strong arms. I felt my cheeks grow hot again and I tried to hide it the best I could. Alfred dipped me down just enough so I could pick up the mini statue myself. I held onto the statue in one hand and onto Alfred with the other. He was holding me so carefully that I wasn't sure if he had experience with small children before, not that being inexperienced is a bad thing.
"This here is a mini version of Lady Liberty, she sits on Ellis Island in New York City. She's totally huge too! You get a great view of the ocean from the top and..."
My mind forgot to listen to what he was saying, I was lost in his appearance. I have to admit, Alfred was cute, really cute. His blue ocean eyes were a beauty that little people have, his voice can be a bit annoying, but I don't mind. There's also something about him that makes me smile, no matter how distressed I felt about me not being able to speak properly, I felt so happy just to be in his arms.
"You alright Olivine? You're lookin' a little red..." Alfred asked, finally getting my attention.
I snapped back into reality and smiled. He took Lady Liberty from my hands and placed her back down on the desk before he crashed down on the bed. He laid on his back and held me in the air to get a good look at me. Alfred smiled contently at me and I saw small traces of blush marks on his face. I couldn't help but to smile even more.
"Olivine, has anyone ever told you that you're totally cute?" Alfred asked.
I felt my cheeks grow warmer again as I shook my head softly. Alfred placed me on his chest and I got comfortable, lightly clutching onto his shirt. No one has ever called me cute before, actually, this is the only human interaction that I've ever had. I'm not sure why I know about humans, but I do. There really is a lot for me to learn... wait a sec, red? Did Alfred say red? That word seems familiar...
"A-Al?" I managed to ask.
"Hmm?" He looked down to meet my gaze. I took a deep breath and gathered my courage.
This speech training will help you Olivine...
"C-c-can y-you... t-teach... m-me colors? P-please?" My speech has improved a lot! It's not a full sentence, but I'll take what I can get.
"You don't know your colors?" He asked.
I shook my head and buried my face in his shirt. I really am embarrassed about the lack of vocabulary that I have. I know a lot, more than an average child should have. But it's weird that I know some things more than others, like in this place that I'm living in. I know some objects that are in here, but I've never seen them before until today. Everything is so confusing to me... why am I so... childish?
"Olivine? Yoohoo? Anybody home?" Alfred cooed.
Back in reality once more, I shook my head to focus on Al's words.
"Did you get hit in the head or something? You sure do space out a lot. I'll teach you colors so don't worry 'bout a thing dudette."
My face lit up like the night sky, as I gasped in excitement. Al smiled and sat upright, placing me in his lap comfortably. I looked at him with anticipation and excitement. I may be childish and unexciting right now, but once I learn basic things... I'll be on fire!
I finally get to learn something new and useful! Maybe this will help me speak! I can't wait!
"Let's start off with the most important colors! Red, White, and Blue!"
~ About thirty minutes later ~
*Arthur's POV*
I decided to check up on Olivine and Alfred, they've been up there for a while and in her condition, anything could happen. I can't get that look on her face out of my mind. She was so distraught and fed up with life, she had the eyes of the unwanted... no child should know that kind of emotion.
Coming upon Alfred's door, I heard an amazing memory taking place. I know it's not polite to snoop but... I found myself watching their conversation through the crack in the door. Alfred was sitting on the bed with Olivine in his lap, reading a Marvel comic to her while eating a snack that Japan gave him. Pocky? Was it? Olivine must have gotten curious about it because she reached up to take it from his mouth.
"Hmm?" Alfred noticed,"Do you want one?"
Olivine made a face as if to say 'No shit Sherlock'
"Haha, dudette, you're not only cute, but you're also kinda sassy."
This made Olivine turn bright red, she seems to be easily embarrassed. Alfred pull out a stick from the box and handed it to her.
"Grab this end and put it in your mouth."
Oh bloody hell... France, your pervertedness is rubbing off on me...
*Olivine's POV*
"Grab this end and put it in your mouth." Alfred instructed.
I grabbed the biscuit end and placed the chocolate part in my mouth. I closed my eyes and rested my head on his chest. Alfred had taught me all the basic colors and the extras like black, pink, and gray. Now he was testing me, in his Spider-Man comic book (he told me) he would point to a color or ask what colors the characters were wearing. I would say it and get praised, pretty good life I was having right now.
"Alright, break time!" He announced as he lifted me from my comfortable spot on his lap and placed me on the bed. He stood up, walked around the room, and stretched.
I guess we have been sitting for a while...
Just as I finished nom-ing on my snack and was about to join in on the stretching, I felt a presence watching me. My gaze landed on the door where a pair of eyes were watching us.
"Iggy!" I called.
Iggy became startled and hid out of sight. I immediately slid off the bed, walked towards the door, and opened it to reveal him snooping behind it.
"Guess I'm not good at hiding am I?" I laughed and Iggy walked in.
"Yo, Arthur? What brings you to the Hero's room?" Alfred asked as his limbs were all loosened up.
"I was just checking up on her." Iggy answered as he picked me up.
"Hey Olivine? Why do you tell Iggy what you learned?" Alfred suggested.
I gasped and smiled at them. My eyes lit up as I got ready to show off my new skills. First I pointed at Alfred and said:
"Hero!" Alfred was so psyched that I said that because he didn't even teach me to say that.
Next I said all the colors of the rainbow, with a little stutter, but I did it. Now I know how to describe things better!
A little discovery peeked my interest as Iggy and Alfred started chatting about me. I saw a little white bear come in and look up at me. I waved at it and it said:
"Who are you?"
"I-I'm O-Olivine..." I answered.
"Kumapoo, wait for me!" Mattie quietly yelled from the hallway.
"Hey Mat! What's up?" Al questioned.
"I wanted to spend some time with Olivine. And Arthur, Francis when out a few minutes ago, he said he'll be back later."
"Mattie!" I squealed as I stretched out my arms to him. Iggy gave me to Mattie and I snuggled into his red sweatshirt. His maple scent soothed my heartbeat and my eyelids became heavy.
*Matthew's POV*
I held Olivine close and I could hear her breathing slow down to a calming rate.
"I'll put her to bed." I said. Artthur and Alfred agreed as I followed Kumasnowlily to my room.
Once inside, I quietly shut the door and laid her down on the bed. Just as I was about to get up, I felt a little tug on the collar of my hood. Olivine's eyes were open a slither and she had a look on her face as if to say 'Please don't go.' I couldn't just ignore her adorable face, so I just cuddled with her. A small smile appeared on her face as Kumasoft climbed into the bed with us.
I found it hard to stay awake, Olivine's soft sleeping noises were like a soft summer's breeze. She smelled like roses and her skin was so soft that even Kumapop snuggled on her back side. I took once last look at her and smiled softly before I closed my eyes.
