Last month of school
We're nearly grown up now. Our boards come in one month. Then we'll go to different colleges...different paths.
The last of school weighed upon us heavily.
I entered our classroom, 12 B. My best friend, Neeti, is going on about the ongoing India South Africa series. Neeti is totally crazy on cricket. She, like, watches every match of India ball by ball, and expects us all to do the same.
"Oh GOD, Kuldeep and Chahal... dominating South Africa IN their own backyard!" she swooned to Abhi and Dhruv.
"Yes, it was unbelievable," admitted Dhruv, a lot more calmly.
"Alisha!" shouted Neeti as she saw me. "D'you know what happened yesterday?"
"Umm... Kuldeep made India win?" I rolled my eyes. I don't like cricket a lot.
"HOW DO YOU KNOW!"
I guess she hadn't taken into account the fact that she'd been shouting so loudly that maybe even the security guard had heard.
Abhi and I exchanged a secret smile.
It happens rather a lot. Abhimanyu, or Abhi, is my other best friend. We've known each other all our lives. We live next door to each other, and our parents are friends too.
We've always been really close, and it was ok till class 8, but after that all the people of our section started teasing us about being a couple, which we weren't. Abhi, unfortuantely, took their teasing seriously, and I hate how he started developing feelings for me.
I tried my best but couldn't make myself snub him. He is one of my best friends, for heaven's sake! Since the time he started hinting at his love for me, I played along mildly.
I mean, we never hold hands or tell each other 'I love you' or stuff. But I can't help those secret smiles we share. I didn't want to, but somewhere down the line, I stopped thinking of us as just friends.
It's complicated, what Abhi and I have. And now school is coming to an end, and I still don't know where this will go.
