Chapter Fifteen: Dying To Live
I drove to the NWG building and walked in.
"Vince!" I called out.
"Hey what's the big idea?" Vince said in his Italian accent.
"Haha real funny Vince." I said.
"Bada Bing Bada boom, that's what I always say." Vincent said while laughing.
Khalil walked out and greeted me, I looked at the two of them.
"Where's Drew?" I asked.
"Oh he's out selling that Star Emerald, he should be back later tonight." Vincent said.
"Oh okay, well tell him that I need to speak with him urgently." I said.
"What for?" Khalil asked.
"It's... complicated, but we may have another kill/capture operation." I said.
"Must be pretty important if the leader of the NWG is calling a hit." Vince said.
"You have no idea..." I said.
I looked down at my watch to display 5:45.
"Ah shit. I gotta jump, I'll see you guys later." I said.
I waved them goodbye and I got in my car. I drove to the address that Yuri gave me and I parked out front.
Yuri had a small house that was quite unkept. That was probably because she stayed at Monika's warehouse most of the time.
I went up and knocked on the door. I waited about 30 seconds until I heard footsteps.
A familiar purple haired girl came to the door wearing a white sweatshirt and long skinny jeans.
"So glad you could make it!" Yuri said while pulling me in for a big hug.
"Good to see you too." I said.
I walked into Yuri's house to see that the inside is quite clean. She didn't have much stuff however.
In her living room there was just a couch, an old TV, and a coffee table.
"Nice place you got here." I said.
"Oh thank you, I don't have very many visitors." she said.
"Maybe I could fix that?" I said jokingly.
"I'd like that."
I walked into the kitchen to see Yuri standing over a stove. I walked up behind her and looked over her shoulder.
"So watcha making?" I asked.
"Oh... j-just a little recipe I found online."
It looked like a pasta of some sort with a bunch of vegetables in it.
"Well it surely looks good." I said.
My face was right next to Yuri's, and I could hear her breathing begin to slow down and take deeper breaths.
I sat down on the couch and looked at my phone. I had some notifications on Wattpad and other text messages.
One was from my friend Drew.
D: What's going on?
S: Cosgrove...
D: Yeah, he's dead.
S: He back man... me and you will talk tomorrow. How about at that bar over on Colerain?
D: If you're buying, I'm in
S: Deal
I looked up to see Yuri standing over top of me with a bowl in her hand. She handed me the bowl and I looked down at it.
"Oh wow, this looks great. Thank you." I said.
Yuri let out a smile and sat down next to me.
I took a bite of my noodles and it tasted great.
"Wow this is really good." I said.
"Oh... thank you. I never had anyone enjoy my cooking before." Yuri said.
"Hey do you got a bathroom by any chance?" I asked.
"Oh yeah, down that hallway to the left." Yuri said.
"Thanks." I said.
I sat down my bowl and went down the hallway that Yuri pointed to. I looked around and saw that a door was slightly crept open.
I pushed the door open and realized that this was Yuri's room. I looked over at her wall and saw a large case hanging on it.
It had knives of varying sizes, shapes, and scariness... if that's a word.
On her nightstand was a small familiar looking pen and a book with a eye on the front of it. On her wall, right above her bed, was a carving of an eye.
"Oh... fuck..." I said while backing out of her room. I grabbed the book and tucked it into my suit jacket.
I felt a cold presence behind me as I backed up. I bumped into something and felt a soft sensation on my back.
I turned around and saw Yuri standing behind me.
"W-what are you doing in here?" Yuri asked.
"I uh... uh..." I fumbled with my words until Yuri looked at the ground.
"Did you want to... um..." Yuri stuttered with her words as she moved her left foot on the ground.
"Sorry I dropped something and it rolled under the door." I said.
"O-oh okay." Yuri said while nervously laughing.
I looked at my watch and saw that the time was almost 9:00.
"Hey I better get going, it's getting a little late." I said.
"Oh so soon? I got this for us though..." Yuri said as she pulled out a familiar bottle of wine.
It was the bottle of wine that me and Yuri drank right before we... well we drank that wine.
"I-Is she trying to seduce me?" I thought to myself.
"Look I'd love to stay and have a drink but I have to get home." I said.
"Oh okay..." Yuri said discouraged.
"I'll give you this though." I said. I grabbed Yuri by her waist and pulled her in for a kiss, getting her by surprise.
I pulled away and looked into Yuri's eyes. Her pupils were gone, her eyes were just a dark shade of purple.
"Heeeeeh... heeeeeh..." Yuri let out while breathing heavily.
"I'll see you later Yuri." I said while I closed the door behind me. Yuri just stood there as I closed the door.
"Well that's 3 out of 4. I just have one more girl to check up on before I can retire for tonight." I said to myself.
I got in my SUV and made my way to Monika's place... well rather her warehouse.
I walked down the lonely and quiet corridors until I made it to Monika's office.
The light was off so I flicked it on. Monika was sitting at her desk just waiting in the dark.
"Monika are you okay?" I asked.
"Is it really true?" Monika asked me.
"What?" I asked.
"Are you really him? Are you the Spencer I once loved? Please don't lie to me... I can't take much more of... this." Monika said sad low voice.
I pulled the envelope out of my jacket and pulled out the picture of me and Monika.
"Do you remember this?" I asked her.
Monika scanned the picture and stood up. She walked over to me with her head down, still scanning the picture.
"I-I remember... I never wanted that moment to end... so why does it feel so long ago?" Monika said.
"All moments have to end... but we can always make new ones." I said.
Monika walked towards me and hugged my chest tightly.
"Why... why did this happen to me? I deleted my friends and then the one man that I loved had to die on me." Monika said while she began to cry.
"Monika I'm..." I tried to talk but I had trouble getting my words out.
"Why me... why me... why me..?" Monika chanted as tears came out of her eyes.
"Monika please... It's my fault..." I said.
Monika's grip on me began to get weaker as she began to break down in tears.
"Why do you still love me? I almost shot you." Monika asked.
"Because you stayed by my side." I said.
I wiped the tears off of Monika's face.
"When you were in that game, there was nothing more that I wanted than to meet you, to actually touch you... to love you..." I said. "You're everything I ever wanted. I know you would love me no matter what I did, so I do the same to you. No matter what you do wrong, I will always love you."
"I...I..." Monika couldn't get her words out.
"I don't deserve you..." Monika said.
"You're right... you deserve better than me..." I said.
I crouched on the ground leaning my back on the back of Monika's desk. Monika sat next to me, still trying to stop crying.
"It's unconditional love... and that'll never disappear." I said.
"I love you... so much...." Monika said.
"I love you too Monika..." I said softly.
Monika rested her head on my shoulder and I think she fell asleep. I closed my eyes as well and me and Monika fell asleep next to each other on the front of her desk.
