Chapter Eleven: Two Of A Kind
We pulled up to the compound and parked my car outside. We walked over to the entrance and saw Yuri standing outside the door, holding her knife and sharpening it with a stone.
We walked up to her.
"Uh... hi Yuri." I said.
She flashed me a grin and looked up at me.
"Hello Frost, good to see you still in one piece... for now." she said while playing with her knife.
We walked past Yuri into the building and went down the hallway.
"What happened to Yuri?" I asked.
"We don't know... ever since she found this book she's been like this ever since." Natsuki said.
"A book? What kind of book?!" I asked.
"I don't know what it's called, I think it has an eye on it." Natsuki said.
"An eye?"
"Yeah, or something that looks like one."
We walked over to Monika's office again. We opened the door slowly to see Monika peering out the window with her back turned to us. She put her right hand up.
"Natsuki, Sayori, please leave. I need to have a private conversation with him." Monika said.
"Uh okay..." Natsuki said.
"Bye Frost!" Sayori said joyfully.
They closed the door behind them leaving me alone in the room with Monika.
She turned around and sat down at her desk.
"How was the pick up?" Monika asked.
"We got it done." I said.
I raised the suitcase and opened it, revealing the money.
"Good work... good." Monika said. She took the suitcase and set it on the ground.
"You did good for your first day. Honestly I was expecting you to die." Monika said.
"Oh well thanks." I said annoyed.
"Well it was either that or we tie a 30 second bomb to your back and tell you that you're home free." she said while giggling.
"Thanks that's truly reassuring..." I said sarcastically.
"Anyway I assume that you want this back?" Monika said while she pulled out the Star Emerald.
She held the emerald out to me in the palm of her hand. I walked over to her and took the emerald.
"I'm guessing this is where we part ways then?" Monika asked.
"I suppose so." I said twiddling the emerald between my fingers. I turned around and began to leave the room until Monika said something.
"P-please come back tomorrow..." she said. I turned around and looked Monika in her emerald green eyes. I could see the loneliness and sadness in her eyes.
"It's a promise." I said.
Monika flashed me a faint smile. I closed the door just as Monika set her head down on her desk... I think she started crying.
I walked down the hallway while clicking bullets into the magazine of my Beretta. I met Natsuki and Sayori outside.
"Good work today Natsuki." I said while reaching my hand out to Natsuki.
She shook my hand and flashed a smile at me.
"Sayori you ready to go back home?" I asked.
"Oh um yeah sure." she said.
We all got back in my SUV and I began driving to Sayori's house.
I still had the Star Emerald in my hand and Natsuki noticed it.
"I'm guessing that she gave you it back?" Natsuki asked.
"Yeah... I needed it." I said. An awkward silence fell over until Natsuki broke it.
"So I'm guessing you're leaving then..." she said.
I looked into my rearview mirror to see that Sayori was eagerly waiting my answer.
"Not quite yet, I still have some business that I need to take care of." I said.
Natsuki and Sayori seemed happy at that response.
"That's good, at least you didn't abandon us like someone who pretended to be Spencer..." Natsuki said.
"Pretended?" I asked.
"Yeah... when we first came to this reality... someone pretended to be... a really good friend of mine..." Sayori said while sadly looking out of the window.
"He took advantage of us... all of us... and then he left us to die." Natsuki said.
"What happened to the real Spencer...?" I asked.
"He uh... um..." Sayori tried to talk but tears formed in her eyes.
Natsuki looked over at me sadly.
"Sayori..." Natsuki said.
"Yes...?" She said.
"That's Spencer..." Natsuki said while pointing at me.
I pulled out front Sayori's motel and she just looked at me in disbelief. She moved her mouth as if she was about to talk... but just remained silent. She got out of the car without saying anything and went into her motel room.
Natsuki looked over at me concerned.
"W-was it too soon?" she asked.
"I-I don't know..." I said.
Me and Natsuki pulled out and began driving back to my house.
"So there was someone who tried to be me?" I asked, sparking conversation.
"Yeah... I actually think that's why Monika tried to kill you with Molotovs. She's spent months trying to track down the 'fake' you, and I think she thought she found you." Natsuki said.
"Yeah... she almost cooked me alive in there..." I said nervously while scratching my head.
"Ever since we came into this reality, she's been almost like a mom to us... watching over us and taking care of us. She has trouble handling with it sometimes..." Natsuki said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Sometimes I can hear her crying softly in her office. I think she blames herself for being convinced that someone was you." Natsuki said while staring at the floor. "Things were never the same after you died." she added.
"Do you know where the bastard went...?" I asked.
"No... I think Monika still even doubts that you are the real you." Natsuki said.
"I wouldn't blame her..." I said. I pulled into my driveway again and me and Natsuki went inside my house.
"I'm guessing you're crashing here again tonight?" I asked.
"D-Do you mind?" Natsuki said.
"Not at all." I said, smiling at Natsuki.
"I should really thank you for... all of this." Natsuki said while rubbing her arm.
"Don't mention it, I owe it to you guys." I said while playing with Natsuki's hair.
She started swatting at my hand.
"Anyway I'm gonna watch some TV before going to bed." I said.
"Oh okay... I think I'm gonna go take a shower. I think I got some blood in my hair." Natsuki said.
Natsuki walked upstairs and I grabbed a soda out if my fridge. I sat down on my couch and turned on the TV. It was just more news about people protesting.
Suddenly my vision began to get blurry. It began to get worse as I looked down at my hand. A black wave went over my eyes and I blacked out.
I woke up on the familiar white platform. I looked in front of me to see Odysseus running towards me.
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?" she said while running towards me. She grabbed me by the collar of my shirt.
"W-what?!" I asked.
"YOU LEFT HER ALONE? THAT'S NOT HOW THIS IS SUPPOSED TO GO! YOU JUST SEALED HER FATE!" Odysseus screamed.
"Who are you talking about?! Natsuki is upstairs!" I said.
"NOT NATSUKI! YOU HAVE SIX MINUTES OR ELSE I CAN'T HELP YOU!" she screamed.
I woke up laying on my floor, my drink spilled all over my carpet. I rose to my feet and ran out of my house, running past Natsuki who was standing in a towel.
"W-where are you going!" she yelled.
I remained silent as I got in my car. I stepped on the gas and made my way to the familiar motel.
"Don't do it Sayori..." I thought to myself.
