A/N
I'm not really good at describing dances in books. So you may imagine how the waltz went ^^
TOM'S P.O.V
I am now standing in front of a huge golden door and there are two people wearing white leather tops standing firmly on each side of the door, "I could hear music on the other side..," I mumble. I turn to look at the people wearing white tops. Could it be? There's some kind of color coding to each people working under the king?... Well, Whatever.
I took a deep breath, it's all going to be over soon. We will be able to get home once this is over. I start walking and the two people opens the door for me. Everyone inside the room turn their heads to look at me. Wow, talk about some great entrance. I walk inside and examine the surroundings. The room was big and it was almost as if everything in the room was made out of gold and silver. But it was mostly covered with the color Red. The cloths on the windows, on the floor, on the table were all Red.
There were a lot of food on each side of the room. Lining up perfectly. I can guess they all already ate since there were a lot of used utensils on the table. There are a group of people wearing blue leather tops with instruments on the far center corner of the room. The guests, us, were all wearing fancy suits and gowns.
Most of them are women and we, the men are probably only 6 or 7.
I guess that makes the King... gay? Or I don't know. Just as long as they have a fair face then I guess it's a go for the King? But like, what if his soulmate was an average looking person. How is he so certain that his soulmate has a fair face?
No offense.
"They all look beautiful..," I whisper to myself before I hear the door behind me closing slowly. Then I turn to the other guests. While some are obviously excited about this, whispering they can't wait to see the King and such. The others however were scared. They clearly look like they wanted to leave. I guess I'm not the only one who seems to be forced to do this.
I then turn to the front, there was a huge space on the center of the room, dividing the guests and the people wearing masks. I desperately start searching for Edd and Ell but... They are all wearing the same colored tops; black leather tops and it seems like they match the same count of the guests because the only people standing and wandering around on the side are people wearing white tops. The Men in white tops wear wearing black and white suits with some kind of a black butterfly on their collars while the Women were wearing black and white long dresses.
Mostly, all of the people other than us are all wearing similar clothes just different color suits, hair colors and different hair styles. Yet, one stands out to me the most. A person standing at the very center of the crowd of masks. The person has light brown hair has some kind of devil horns sticking out. That person really stood out to me. Suddenly the lights turned out and I could hear all of the guests gasping in surprise.
Then the lights turned on but it was focusing on the center only. Then the music started playing and the people wearing masks started walking in a very rhythmic pattern. This is exactly how the waltz start.
Everyone was in rows as we slowly walk to our supposed first partners. A person in a dark green suit waltz towards me as I did the same. We held hands and I drape my other hand on their shoulders as they held my waist then we started waltzing.
"You are PRETTY dude looking to be here, you know?" the person commented, I chuckle, "Yo, Edd. Did I took so long?" I ask before he held my right hand up so I can waltz around him slowly. Edd chuckles, "Yeah, you took long but you made it just in time for the dance," he says and we start waltzing again. I tilt my head to the side, "So, how many partners exactly?" I ask.
"Well, you guests will have to dance with ALL of us, you only stop if your chests glow. You will have to stand aside with your partners," he explains, "What? But aren't you guys working for the King?" I ask as we waltz to the side slowly, "We will have to ignore our soulmates. The only reason for this ball is to find the New King's soulmate. We, King's Men, are not included," he explains as I held his hand up so he can waltz around me.
"It sounds unfair..."
"Indeed it is."
"CHANGE PARTNERS!" a voice yelled and all of the guests turn in their places. I was so surprised that I wasn't able to turn just in time but then a person held my hand and waist in a rather rough way.
"Looks like someone is not that good at dancing," the person cooed.
Something tells me I am not going to enjoy most of my other partners.
------------------------------------
Time passed and I was getting tired of all the waltzing and changing of partners. All of them had really different personalities. I won't deny I almost got into a fight with three or four of them. Then now we have to change partners again.
This time I know who my partner is, FINALLY.
"You won't believe how much I'm tired right now." I say to Ell, she giggles, "I'm surprised you haven't started a fight with some of us actually," she says and it made me chuckle, "Tell me about it."
Now that I feel a little calm because I knew who my partner is, I finally got to look around. That's when I realized, almost half of the guests already stood on the side with their chests glowing while their partners just stood beside them. They were wearing their leather tops but it was obvious their chests are glowing underneath. It looks magical. The different shades of colors were beautiful.
"Sad isn't it?" Ell asks as she turns me around slowly. I nod, "Yeah, They better cherish this moment with their soulmates. I know they will never see them again," I say as both of us waltz to the music. Ell hung her head low but suddenly turned to look behind me. She suddenly waltzed excitedly, "Tom! There she is!" she almost screamed, I turn to look behind me and I saw a girl with orange hair wearing a purple ribbon on her head, she was wearing a white top. I get it. This is the girl she told me about. Her soulmate.
I turn to Ell, "Can't talk to her?" I ask and she seem taken aback, "Heavens no, she's a royal maid and I'm WAY out of her league," she says and then she laughed bitterly. I just look at her, even wearing a mask, I can feel her frowning.
"CHANGE PARTNERS!"
With that I pushed Ell to the girl on the side and they bumped to each other. Ell whip her head to me, I could feel her glare. Then she turns to the girl and took off her mask and then they started to chat. Awkwardly. It made me chuckle, since the count of the people waltzing are unbalanced. I then decide to stand aside but then someone held my arm and pulled me to the dance floor.
It was the person earlier, the one with the devil horns. He started waltzing me slowly so to not embarrass the person, I waltzed with him. He was wearing a dark red suit under his black leather top.
We were both quiet. I didn't know how to start a conversation with a person who literally pulled me back to the dance floor when I was about to step aside. I only look at the person's plain white mask. Imagining how he looked like without it. How is it that this person stood out to me the most?
"Uh... Hi?" I greet awkwardly, then he suddenly stop waltzing. He just froze while seemingly staring at me.
Then suddenly he raised one of his hand up, the music stopped. Then the person did some kind of hand gesture and then the lights all turned on. The person in front of me starts taking off his leather top. His chest wasn't glowing. Then he proceeds to take off his mask. He was looking at me. I'm supposing this is the person everyone was looking forward to finally see.
The New King.
In all honesty, he looks so handsome. Pale skin. Long nose and grey eyes. All of the guests inside the room were shock. It was quiet. All eyes on this one person in front of me. He stares at me while I slowly take a step away from him. Then he raised his hand again and did another hand gesture. Suddenly all of the guests in the room were told that the ball is over.
So he was the King.
I hate him.
All of the guests who have found their soulmates never got the chance to see their faces nor talk to them. They were all ignored.
Edd while still wearing his masks, hold my hand and drag me back to the carriage. As I sit on my seat, that's when I realized Ell was already inside the carriage. Since when did she get here? My gaze was stuck on Ell. Edd then took his mask off, "See? That wasn't so bad wasn't it? It is over!" Edd says excitedly, it was so obvious that he just wanted to go home to see Matt. Ell stayed quiet the whole ride. She looked disappointed.
But hey, I can go home now, Matt and I can go home, the ball is over and I am nobody's soulmate.
Good.
