Chapter Three
I snapped my eyes open and was blinded by the sunlight that had pokes through the glass. I shielded my eyes before looking around the room. It close to empty with a cheap tv in front of me. There was also a tall standing lamp next to the couch I was on. That was all that decorated the room.
'Where am I,' I thought to my self as I laid back on the couch.
"You're currently in your apartment Jonathan," said a gruff voice. I sat up in surprise and looked over to owner of the voice.
"Fuck off Luke," I snapped.
"Calm down Del, I was only messing with you," Luke cried out.
"Oh so were you messing around when you go me sent to this place," I spat out.
"Del, you know I would never betray you. I've know you since we were young little shits. I knew about your line of work for years. So why turn you in now especially when you were getting close to that mysterious guy," Luke said with a small wink added on the end. I threw a couch pillow at him and fell face first on the armrest of the couch.
"You suck," I mumbled into the couch.
"I heard that," he taunted and began walking away while laughing loudly. His laughter faded until it was no longer there. I lifted my red face up and saw my boring apartment with no sign of Luke.
I got off the couch and walked around the apartment. Bathroom was down a hall with my bedroom at the end. My new kitchen was found next to the living room. Each room was screaming cheap that I entered with there cream white walls.
I hated this place and I was now hungry. Sighing I went into my kitchen and headed straight for the fridge. Opening it I saw colorful vegetables, fruits, and fish. I grabbed a red shiny apple from the top shelf that had different red fruits surrounding it. As bit into the apple I shut the fridge.
As I ate the sweet apple I plopped onto the couch once more. I don't know why I keep coming to this terrible couch but I do. Suddenly something pokes my shoulder. I yelled and threw my half eaten apple at whoever poked my shoulder.
"Nice reflex," commented a smiling Luke who was leaning down with an outstretched hand.
"Shut up," I said with a pout, "you made me waste a perfect apple because you can't just greet me like a normal person."
"Last time I checked I'm not a "normal person" unlike you," he taunted.
"Luke seriously, shut up," I said as I got off the couch.
"Sorry Del but I can't shut up because I'm going to show you around this place."
"Oh no I'm not leaving this place."
"Orders are orders," he said with a smirk. In an instant I was frozen in place with my mouth slightly open and an angry glare stared straight at Luke. He chuckled and walked over to me with his stupid grin on his face. He wrapped his arms around my waist and picked me up. "So what was that about you not leaving this place," he mocked me as he made his way to the front door. I mentally rolled my eye and struggled internally to move just a single inch.
"It's such a shame you lost your magic abilities," Luke said as he sat me down carefully on the pavement. He cleared his throat and took a few steps backwards. I could now move my mouth shut but still glared at Luke. Before I could open my mouth Luke had opened his. "Now don't yell at me because we're now in public and now you finally felt my pain being on a lower level than you."
"First off whatever that we're in public. Second fuck you because you know you could've fought back," I snapped at him trying to keep my voice low.
"Oh really now," he said as he raised his voice louder, "when the hell would I have been able to fight back against you!"
I scoffed, "yes you could but you never did."
"You know what you're just trying to distract me," he said as his angry face soften into a smile.
"Whatever," I said as he began walking down the sun beaten sidewalk. I followed behind him while taking in the whole city. It was clogged with traffic that had towers looking over that had a long line of cars. It was pretty clean compared to other cities with the worn sidewalk s began to fill with busy faced people. I followed closer to Luke like a lost puppy as he blabbed about the city.
He suddenly stopped and I bumped into him. He was still going on with something probably scolding me but I couldn't care less. Instead I saw a small game store crammed between a coffee shop and a diner that had was currently in the middle of lunch rush. My eyes glanced over the glass and it found its way to a sign that read help wanted in red cursive letters.
"I want to work there," I said out loud on accident.
"Were you even listening to me. You know what forget it but where do you want to work at?" I only pointed at the game store with a small smile. This stuff was banned in our place as it was considered the cause of evil. Before it was banned I remembered owning a system and I loved playing it after a long day at school plus bus ride. I snapped out of my thoughts as Luke laughed loudly catching my attention.
"Right there? A business that could go under at any minute and not some fancy and rich company."
"Yup," I confirmed with a head nod, "screw the rich corporates I want to do something that I'll actually enjoy."
"I'm going to quote you one that," he said in a sing song tone.
"Don't you dare," I said as punched his shoulder lightly.
"Too late," he said with a laugh as you he tried to look hurt.
"If it's too late then why don't you buy me some food," I said with a chuckle.
"That makes no sense but just this once and I'll even take you to my favorite place," he said as he began speed walking down the sidewalk. I smiled widely and began to catch up with my friend.
