PART 1 (old)

It was the first best day of my life, since it was the first day Matteo and I talked. Even conversed for several minutes.

We'd gone to the same school for as long as I could remember, and also, I had a crush on him for as long as I could remember. It was always all fuzzy and exciting. Catching each other's eyes, smiling, liking pictures on the other one's social media, but never talking.

Now it was mid fall, and the first half of my sophomore year – and his junior year – was almost over. Well, not really almost, but almost.

We were at the public pool; me, Casey, Don and Amelia. Luckily the pool was built inside, or else, I think we might have frozen to death.

Kids were jumping in the pool all around us, splashing water in our faces, making it extremely difficult for us to talk.

We had decided to go to get pizza after this, since it was a Saturday. We weren't really the ones to go to parties, at least not every weekend, just like a lot of other kids in our grade. None of us really drank, and I would say that both Don and Amelia probably had a bit of social anxiety. Casey must have been the craziest one of us. She looked like it as well; blond hair, big lips, skinny and she had an older boyfriend, not to mention her typical mean girl name.

The first day I met her, I was petrified. I wasn't really shy or insecure, I had just seen way to many teenage-high-school-drama movies with Amelia – that I hate by the way - to know that blonde hot babes were not to play with. But boy was I wrong. To be honest, Casey must have been the nicest and smartest girl I met during my whole high-school experience.

Don't judge a book by its cover, I tell you.

"I don't really think he likes me anymore." Casey said behind me. She grabbed my shoulder to hold herself over the surface, but the motion almost made me sink under the surface.

"Why? He seems all over you every time we see you together." Amelia said.

"Well, first of all we barely see each other anymore. And he's always on campus and hanging out with his university friends."

"Well he is in college." Don stated, swimming over to the edge of the pool to rest his muscles.

"Who cares? I'm his girlfriend!"

"Guys!" Amelia screamed out of the blue, pointing behind me. I turned around and I swear my heart stopped in that very moment. Suddenly I felt really aware of the fact that I was in only a bikini set.

"It's Brynn's boooyyyfriend." Don said, only a little bit too loud. I splashed water on his face, heat growing on my cheeks.

There he was, the most beautiful living creature on earth. His dark brown locks were perfectly styled on his head, his eyes warm and sparkling, a perfect smile plastered on his soft lips. He hadn't seen my yet as he was talking to his friends. I recognized some of them, from Facebook probably. They were pretty too, but nothing compared to Matteo and his gorgeous Italian genes.

"Talk to him!" one of my friends said, but I was too busy secretly staring at Matteo and his bronze skin to care who it was.

When Don, Amelia and Casey got way to loud and embarrassing, I dove under the water, letting the soothing cold surround me and calm my flushed nerves. My dark hair floated around me like sea grass, soft and relaxed.

I was going to kill them when I get up. What's up with friends always ruining things with others crushes? Don't they have better things to do?

As an answer to my questions a foot nudged my rib, no not nudged, kicked. I immediately broke out of the water and threw my wet hair back to prevent it from sticking to my face.

"Who did that?" I yelled to whoever hurt me. But I instantly regretted it.

"Well, it wasn't me." Matteo said right in front of me. He was sitting at the edge of the pool, smiling brightly. My heart stopped in that moment, and all I could think of was that I wanted to sink under the water again.
