Chapter 4- Let The Games Begin
The key to success at any destruction mission: beat your enemy at her own game.
And that's exactly what we had decided to do. Evelyn had always been about the subtle yet humiliating forms of embarrassment, so on a Tuesday morning, it was time to begin our long-awaited revenge. And how, exactly? Rumors and coffee. The funny thing is, both can fly; one through word-of-mouth and the other through the air. Right onto Evelyn's white cashmere sweater.
Tuesdays had become our mandatory coffee days, so before school, we made our customary stop at Tiana's. Tiana's was owned by - in fact- Tiana Wortham, and both woman and shop had been there as long as anybody in Monroe could remember. It was a cute cafe, with dark wood floors and pastel pink tablecloths on the round tables.
Even after two years, we still managed to keep our orders the same. Evelyn's was a strawberry frappuccino with whipped cream, I always got regular black coffee, and Nova got a caramel macchiato with a shot of hazelnut- her signature flavor mix. Nova and Evelyn always teased me for my plain pick, but it's what served me well in the end with our particular plan of action for the day.
"Ugh, guys, I literally have way too much stuff." Evelyn complained. We were standing at our usual posts besides Evelyn's locker. It was a particularly crowded morning, people hustling to get to wherever they needed to go.
"Don't we all?" Nova smirked.
I gave her a quick glance, trying to signal that she should play along.
"Here, want me to hold some of that for you?" Nova said as Evelyn piled a few notebooks into her arms.
"Sure, that would be great." And with that, it was on. With Evelyn completely free of blockages, I quickly looked at Clair, who was conveniently hovering a few lockers down.
I casually started to open the lid of my coffee cup, as if to check to see how much there was left.
"So anyway, Evelyn, how was your date with Br-" I started to say, cut off by a bump to my shoulder and a blood-curdling scream coming from Evelyn.
Clair, who had been the one to deliberately bump into me, scurried off before Evelyn could start assigning the blame. Meanwhile, my coffee was now down the front of Evelyn's sweater, forming a large stain that looked like it would be difficult to get out later.
"Why is there coffee on me?" Evelyn fumed.
"Someone must have bumped into me. Here, why don't we go to the bathroom to get you cleaned up?" I said, still holding my now empty coffee cup.
"No! You can't talk to me like I'm some small child who can't do things for herself! I'm going to clean this mess up myself, thank you very much." Evelyn gestured to her shirt, and turned to head to the nearest bathroom, stopping short when she saw the crowd of people that had stopped near us to see what happened.
"What are you looking at? This isn't a freaking reality show, people!" Evelyn threw her hands in the air and stormed away.
Everyone slowly dispersed, going back to their normal lives. Me and Nova just stood there, trying not to laugh.
"Well. I'd say say step one has been successfully put into action." Nova said.
"Most definitely."
A/N: sorry for taking so long to get a new chapter up! I'm in school break so I'll probably be taking more time to write. Thank you for reading and voting on my stories!!
