THIRTY FOUR
Kystan's POV
"Kystan, listen to me." Belle says the moment I go back inside the house.
"No. I am tired of this." I say with anger. I try to get away from her but she grabs my shirt and refuses to let it go.
"I am sorry." She says with tears going down her face. I can't find it in myself to feel sympathetic for her anymore.
"Leave me alone." I yank her hands off my shirt and walk away from her. I grab my belongings and run all the way to Liza's apartment.
I knock on her door loudly, "Liza, can we talk." I say softly. No one answers from the other side. I assume she is ignoring me, I knock a little harder. Nothing. I start banging on the door. After some time, one of her neighbors walks out and threatens to throw me out if I don't halt the ruckus.
"Sir, do you know where she is?" I ask him motioning to Liza's door.
"She is not at home." He says, "Now, bloody calm down or I'll call security." He says sternly and goes back to his house.
I sit down and wait by her door. I lay my head on my knees and keep glancing towards the elevator waiting for her to appear. Unfortunately, I fall asleep.
I awaken when I hear something smash to the floor inside. I get up and look around. Sure enough, there are fresh foot marks on the floor leading to her apartment.
I get up and call to her. She does not answer but I hear her moving around inside. I knock as loudly as I can. She keeps ignoring me. I try to call her but my phone shut down long ago. I knocking relentlessly without a response.
From the corner of the corridor. two guys wearing security uniforms emerge. "Sir, you have to leave." One of them says as they approach me.
"I have to talk to her." I reply as calmly as I can.
"You are disturbing the other residents, sir." He replies.
"I can't." I answer.
"Well, we'll have to take you out." The other guy says. They hold onto my arms and lead me out despite my protest. They let go of me when we are outside. I try to enter again but they do not let me.
I go back to an empty house. The sight of the house mocks me. I had prepared a romantic dinner with wine, flowers. candles, and very pretty cutlery. I had to bribe the guys so that we could have the house to ourselves. I head to the wine and take a gulp from the bottle.
I keep on drinking until I am tipsy. I set down the bottle and lay on the couch. My insides don't take kindly to the wine, I puke on the floor and instantly pass out.
I wake up when someone shakes me.
"What happened here?" Luca asks with concern. He can tell things didn't go as planned. I sit up and accidentally my foot lands in the vomit. Ugh, I forgot it was there.
"Bloody hell." I cuss and get up on the other leg. I hop to the bathroom and wash my foot. My head feels heavy, I down an Aspirin for the headache and head back to the living room with a mop to clean the floor.
"What happened?" Luca asks again.
"I messed up." That's all I say. He gets that I don't want to talk about it and leaves me alone.
I take a bath and dress for work then come back downstairs for breakfast. As we are eating, Asher walks in looking unkempt. Like yesterday, I know something went wrong. He refused to talk then, but not today.
He makes his way to the stairs but I stop him. The last time he looked like that, his girlfriend had cheated on him and he got chronic depression, he had to get counseling sessions. "Asher." I call him. He looks at me with that look where he is almost crying but is fighting it.
He walks over and takes a seat. "I messed everything up." He says.
"What's with you two?" Luca asks with confusion.
Asher doesn't seem to hear that, he continues talking. "I was so shitfaced last night. I don't know how it happened, I hooked up with a girl. I thought she was Jade but she wasn't." He says and starts pulling at his hair in frustration.
I stop him before it hurts.
"I cheated on her." He says with tears in his eyes. "I cheated." Luca gets up and hugs him. Asher keeps on repeating that as he cries into Luca's shoulder. He admits, "I am scared of telling her."
"You should tell her sooner. It's better." Luca tells him.
"But what if she breaks up with me?" He looks so vulnerable I am reminded of the scared nerdy kid he once was. That kid wouldn't be proud of him lying to his girlfriend.
"There is nothing you can do then, but just be honest with her." Luca answers. It's weird how the single one is the one who has all the relationship advice.
I excuse myself because I have an early morning rehearsal and I can't miss it.
It takes up almost all day. By the time we finish it's time to go home. I head to the entrance hoping to meet Liza there. I stand there for a few minutes before I can see her. She comes out of the elevator and joins the crowd of people exiting the building.
Her eyes meet mine. For a moment she looks happy to see me, I make a move to go to her, but it changes quickly and she starts glaring at me. I can't approach her now when she is still angry. I prompt my mind to work out a solution, I walk away to give her time and space to calm down.
Our loft is eerily quiet on Saturday. The day before, Asher mustered the courage to tell Jade and she broke up with him instantly. Luca and I have been walking on eggshells ever since.
"She broke up with me." Asher says from across us. We are eating breakfast at the counter each of us quietly lost in thought. We both look up, startled.
"Don't worry about it, she's still shocked, maybe she'll come around." Luca, the optimist, says.
"Maybe?"
"No. She will." We all know that isn't true.
"This is the worst that can happen right?" He asks.
"Yeah for sure." Jade doesn't look like one who can slash his tires or something crazy like that. Little did I know the worst would come hours later in the form of my girlfriend.
