Eight
Olivia's POV:
I stumble back and see Allison still staring at the screen that showed the horrifying image.
"Okay..." Allison trails then shuts off the computer. "now that'll forever haunt my dreams."
"Yeah..." I mumble, seeing that Allison was still alive and well in front of me. She hands me the popcorn bowl then grabs stack of papers in front of her.
"Let's finish reading the rest before my dad gets here." She says, pushing the chair back in its original spot before I hesitantly follow behind her to her room.
I close the door behind us and she plops on her bed, patting her hand on the spot beside her for me to sit.
I place the bowl on her desktop and sit down beside her, grabbing a file next to her. "Oh look, there's a reference about flies being able to carry messages to the dead." She says, holding the paper to me.
"What is it about?" I numbly ask.
"Well it says that the flies can--" She explains to me but I couldn't focus what she was telling me. All that ran through my head was witnessing Allison die by that thing.
It felt like my head was spinning. I couldn't think. All I could hear was the sound of the sword piercing through Allison's side, remembering the shock on her expression as she stared at the oni.
"You still lose her no matter what."
"If you mess with time, there's always a consequence."
"I can't lose you, please, Allison."
"It's perfect. I'm in the arms of the woman I love. The first person I ever loved. The person I'll always love. I love--I love you, Olivia...O-Olivia Flores."
Was I supposed to tell her? Could I even tell her? I can't put that pressure on her, she's already been through enough. I can't tell anyone or someone else would suffer. I can't put anyone through that.
All I knew for sure was I couldn't let Allison die. There had to be a way. There's no way the future already had set in that Allison had to die.
Was I making a mistake?
"Olivia."
"Huh?" I blink a couple times and see Allison staring at me with a worry filled expression.
"I was asking if you were okay." She says, cupping my cheek to brush away something under my eye. "Your eyes--"
"They flashed orange again?" I ask, worried that I did something to her which causes me to back away.
"No, they're still brown." She puts the papers to the side and fully turns her body to face me. "You're crying."
I wipe my eyes as I shook my head. "I'm okay. It's nothing to worry about." I lie but she shook her head.
"If it wasn't something to worry about you wouldn't be crying. You're my girlfriend." She gives a small smile. "You can tell me what's wrong. "
I couldn't do it. I can't scare her into second guessing every choice she makes. I had to make something up.
"It's my dad." I say, placing the file I held in my hand to the side. "I guess just him being here in town, it kind of triggered old memories."
"I'm sorry." She interlaced our hands. "If I could do something to make him leave town, believe me I would."
"Well..." I trail playfully but she shakes her head with a chuckle and faces the other way to look at the papers in front of her.
"Not something that'll get me arrested, Liv."
"I know, I know." I mutter, wrapping my arms around her waist to pull her closer. I kiss her shoulder, resting my chin on top with a sigh as she relaxes under my hold. "I'm just afraid of what could happen in the future."
"Well we shouldn't be scared of the future." She says, turning her head to face me again. "Especially if I have you in it." She smiles and I felt my face begin to flush as butterflies practically erupted in my stomach.
Jesus Christ she's making it harder for me to keep the secret. I didn't even know if I should feel happy to be with her now or if I should be afraid of what could come in the future.
Was it coming soon? Was it in a couple years? When was it going to happen?
"Sorry, was that too forward?" Allison nervously asks, pulling her hand away from mine. "You know what? Lets go back to reading the bestiary and--"
"Allison." I interrupt her rambles.
"Yeah?"
I smile. "Kiss me."
She didn't waste another moment as she leaned in to press her lips against mine, our lips feverishly moving in sync. I pull her closer to me but she makes it easier by straddling my waist.
My hands graze up her shirt, momentarily feeling her skin which causes her shiver. She nudges for me to lay flat on the bed but I sat up to remove my shirt.
Her eyes widen slightly and she swiftly slips her shirt off as well and tosses it to the side, my eyes trailing at her lace bra.
"You're beautiful." I breathe out which causes her to smile.
She lower herself and starts kissing down my neck, a small moan escaping my lips as my hands entangled in her hair.
However, a door creaks open which causes Allison to pull away with her eyes wide.
Of course with my luck, her dad stood there with his arms crossed and a glare plastered on his face but I quickly toss her shirt back to her before slipping mine on.
"Allison," He finally spoke up as his daughter finished putting on her shirt. "can I see you in my office?" He turns to me, his glare getting more intense. "Where I keep my guns."
Allison nods and quickly follows behind him without sparing a glance to me or saying anything to him.
I get off the bed to start picking up the papers I brushed off the bed until I hear something slam on a table.
"She better not be a werewolf!" He angrily yelled which causes me to sink further into the ground.
Hope he doesn't mind that I'm a caladrius.
Instantly my phone rings in my pocket and I scramble to pull it out. I see that it was Scott and quickly answer the phone.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Did you find anything about Barrow?"
"Not really. Just stuff about flies and the dead but nothing similar to flies coming out of his stomach." I say, grabbing the notebook that Allison took notes on about what we read from the bestiary. "Is everything okay?"
"No, he took Kira." Scott says which causes my eyes to widen. "Stiles, Lydia and I are trying to think of something or he's going to kill her."
"What could he want from her?" I question. "She's new!"
"I knew Barrow was there but I don't know how I knew that." I hear Lydia say with frustration.
"Because you heard the flies, right?" I hear Stiles ask.
"What do you hear now?" Scott inquires as I collect the papers together to put them on the bed.
"Nothing. I feel like I can do this, but I don't know what to do. It's like it's on the tip of my tongue, and I don't know how to trigger it." She groans. "I just...I swear to god, it literally makes me want to scream."
Then it hit me. "Lydia do it. Scream."
It's quiet for a moment until a high pitched scream pierces through my phone which causes me to cover my ears in pain. Once she finishes, I let out a groan.
"Okay next time, put me on mute when you feel like doing that." I say, rubbing my ears for comfort.
"It's not flies." Lydia says and I adjust my position so I could sit comfortably on the ground. "It's electricity."
"Wait a second, Barrow was an electrical engineer. He worked at a power substation." Stiles says and I snap my fingers.
"That's where he has to be keeping Kira." I say and push myself up. "Send me the address and I'll head over there now."
"No, this guy is dangerous. You and Allison keep looking to see what you could find in the bestiary." Scott orders. "We'll get Kira. Just text us as soon as you find something."
I huff. "Fine."
Allison's POV:
"Dad, we weren't even doing anything extreme." I groan, covering my face with my hands.
"So both of you with your shirts off wasn't extreme?" He scolds and I sink in the chair.
"Okay maybe we were, but I don't think we were going to go that far." I uncover my face. "Besides, like I said earlier. She's not a werewolf."
"She's something!" He pointed to the door. "She has fire abilities, Allison."
"And she has healing powers too. She's doing a lot better at controlling her powers." I cross my arms. "You're not keeping us apart. She's still my girlfriend whether you like it or not."
"I'm worried for your safety, Allison. She's something that I can't find in the bestiary about what she could potentially be. Her powers are two different things and one of them can hurt you."
"Well from what we knew, she's a caladrius." I suggest. "It's a bird that's supposed to take the sickness away from someone, healing itself and the person." I explain, seeing his posture relax. "For the fire ability, that's where I'm stumped on that one."
"Regardless what she is, you two need to be careful. Especially since--"
Suddenly, the lights begin to flicker until we're enveloped with darkness. A door slams shut which causes my dad and I to bolt out of the room.
"Get off of me!" I hear Olivia yell from behind my bedroom door. I try to turn the doorknob but it wouldn't budge. "Agh!"
"Olivia, what's going on?" I shout as my dad continued to bang on the door. "Open the door!"
"Olivia!"
