A Wakandan Farm
A FARM IN WAKANDA
A golden armor stands on a pike like a makeshift scare-crow. Ebony Maw is chopping crops in front of it, while Thanos takes a mound of mud and plants a flower in it.
Maw- Is this what you really wanted to do, master?
Thanos- Yes, Maw. I have done all that I could. Now there is nothing more but glorious rest, and the cultivation of life itself. Look at these plants, Maw. They sustain humans, provide them energy from the Sun to live on. They are necessary for this planet's survival.
Maw- But how does that pertain to us?
Thanos- It doesn't, Maw. With half the planet dead, resources would be plentiful for everyone. I do this for my own sake, to return to my trade before becoming the conqueror of the universe.
Maw- You were once a farmer, Master?
Thanos- Yes. On Titan. I knew our stores were falling short, and no matter what we did, with the number of people to feed they would never last. Alas, they all preferred to die together rather than letting half of their creed live. It is their fault.
Thanos walks away from the scarecrow in anger. He takes out his gauntlet and throws it to the ground, crushing several crops in the process.
Thanos- What use is it being the king of the universe?! I had went to Titan, Maw, I turned back time for them, I gave life to every being on Titan once more, yet they preferred to die than live on the mercy of a "cruel murderer". Am I really that, Maw? Do you too not understand what I had to?
Maw- We kill for the greater good of the universe. They may not understand us, master, but the universe does, and it would live on due to our deeds.
Thanos- That's good to know, Maw.
Thanos once again takes up his gauntlet, and lies down on the grass, looking at the Sun overhead in the noon sky.
Thanos- Such a beautiful sky, bursting with the energy of life. Look how bright is the Sun, Maw. See how its rays transfer its power into the plants, who store it and sustain the beings who consume it.
Maw- Master, is the rest of the Black Order dead?
Thanos- Yes. This gauntlet, it required the sacrifice of a great many lives to achieve its purpose. Its fortunate that you survived, Maw. All the others failed in their mission and died at the hands of the Avengers. You failed as well, Maw.
Maw- I apologize, master. They got the better of me with a cruel trick.
Thanos- I wouldn't have forgiven you, but even surviving this war was a great ordeal. Though you were frozen, you lived, and the great judgement didn't wipe you out from existence.
Maw- You didn't exclude any of us from the snap?
Thanos- Not even myself. I was dispassionate to everyone, even to those executing it.
Maw- I didn't realize you were mad enough to be ready to kill your own allies.
Thanos- Would it be fair to exclude ourselves when we exact suffering on half the universe?
Maw- This wasn't a war for fairness.
Thanos- Are you going to leave me too, Maw?
Maw- No, I won't, as long as you don't try to kill me again. I can't work for someone who isn't above stabbing me in the back for their principles, which I helped execute in the first place.
Thanos- The judgement is over, and now I can promise to not risk killing you again, Maw.
Maw- Thank you very much, Master. I am really grateful for your favor.
Thanos- Come now, we must work on rest of the field as well.
Thanos and Ebony Maw return to their farming. Behind some bushes, in the faraway fields, a Wakandan child looks on at the two aliens, astounded by their presence.
