"Did it hurt?" A boy spoke.

"Did what hurt?"

"When you fell down from Heaven..."

"As a matter of a fact, it did. I fell right on my ass."

Anna was shocked to hear the voice answering for her. The voice was low and guttural. She turned, and there he was. A man with perfect bone structure, slick black hair, and a mesmerizing smile. He looked too beautiful to be human.

"Who the hell are you?" The boy asked.

The pickup line definitely didn't go according to plan, and the boy soon realized he was way out of his league anyway.

"Well, I'm her boyfriend. Who are you?"

The boys eyes grew wide before he stuttered out an excuse of words. The man cut him off, telling him to run along before he loses the ability to breathe. He didn't have to be told twice. He slipped off, causing the girl to roll her eyes, and the man to chuckle lightly.

"You've got to stop doing that, Lucifer."

"Why? Because you were interested in the kid? He looked sixteen."

"Well, maybe I liked him anyway."

"Maybe you have terrible taste in guys."

She looked up into his big, black eyes and sighed. The music pumped loudly around them, making it nearly impossible to hear anything anyone was saying. Girls in fancy dresses, and men wearing tuxedos. They were at a party, something Lucifer hadn't been to in a long time.

"What are you doing here, anyway?" He suddenly asked. "This place is like the epitome of boring. Nobody's even dancing. They're just jumping around mindlessly."

"You've been to parties before. The only difference is that your parties have ninety-five percent of the population being girls. Do they all pay to make out with you or something?"

"No, they're just more interesting than men."

"You mean their bodies are more interesting than men."

"I find sex useless, actually. It doesn't bring any pleasure to my case and it's a huge mess to deal with in the morning. It's not as if I would get anyone pregnant anyway."

She laughed, causing him to give her a stern look.

"You humans aren't the way you used to be. Fun didn't consist of sex and music with repeated swears. I'm not saying I enjoyed being among people with a greater interest in fishing or sewing, but this is ridiculous."

He held out his hand, which she took, and they quickly fled the scene. They made it to a small house at the end of a small street in seconds. When his hand left hers, she felt considerably chilly. She spoke just as his fingers reached the door handle.

"So you come, take the fun away, and then leave?" Anna whispered.

"My job is to keep you safe. You can get an STD just from touching one of those boys."

"It's not your job. You could stop any time you wanted. I'm starting to wonder why you haven't."

He hesitated before speaking.

"That isn't anything you should be worrying about."

"Why not? Do you have some secret crush on me or something?"

"I'm gonna go-"

"You definitely have some sort of secret. What are you hiding, Luci?"

"Don't call me that."

"We barely know each other! Just tell me something so we can make conversation next time you rule out another boy!"

"Stop!" Lucifer yelled.

Her eyes expanded just before they closed, and she collapsed. Maybe he'd raised his voice a little... Surely, that wouldn't cause someone to faint, right? He ran by her side, putting two fingers on her neck to check her pulse. He put two red claws on her neck instead. He gasped, running to the mirror to see a horrifying creature. Fangs, horns, and a scarlet body stood before him. He'd let his anger get the better of him.

***************

When Anna woke the next morning, she felt as if her dream was nothing more than that. A dream. Lucifer may be fast, charming, and beautiful, but he would never transform in front of her. He had promised her that the moment they met.

"You do realize you are literally making a deal with the Devil, right?"

"Do you think that's cute?"

"Maybe."

He slipped his jacket off, only to put another, blacker one on. Just before doing so, her hand grazed his back. They trembled slightly over the two large wounds. Lucifer immediately turned, grabbing her arm in the process. An instinct of pain.

"S-sorry!"

She expected to see her biggest fear before her. She expected to see crimson, all around his body. Instead, she saw a sort of yellow flicker in his eyes before extinguishing silently.

"You weren't going to transform?"

He walked slowly to the door, buttoning his jacket as he walked.

"I could never... Not around you."

Anna shivered at the thought. Walking from her bed, where Lucifer had cleverly tucked her in, she went to the kitchen. She half expected him to be waiting for her, but he only showed up when she was in danger. She didn't see what could've happened at the party the night before. She was grateful for him, but she also wanted to know more.

Being under the illusion that she hadn't tried it before, she decided she'd try to get more out of him. A favorite color or a story of his past, perhaps. Except for her to see him again, she'd have to put herself in danger. That sounded sort of stupid, didn't it? Anna wished she could snap her fingers and-

"Anna! Come quick!"

She had no idea who the voice belonged to, or how the person knew her name, but someone was in danger. She quickly ran to the source of sound to find Lucifer. He seemed to be sad, mockingly, about a plant.

"You're garden is atrocious! Do you ever grow anything? Like grass, maybe? Everything is just dead!"

She sighed, relieved and somewhat angered that Lucifer had scared her so.

"Did I frighten you?"

"No, I'm just panting like a dog for no reason." She grumbled sarcastically. "This doesn't qualify as an emergency, Luci."

"I told you to stop calling me that." His smile faded rather quickly. "And I do believe your gardening skills are a cry for help on their own."

"You sure you didn't kill everything when you walked through the gate?" she smiled. "Am I in danger?"

"No, I just thought I'd drop by. We don't know each other very well. Maybe we could grab coffee."

He didn't make direct eye contact when he spoke, knowing that dispite his abilities, he was a terrible fibber. He knew she'd be able to tell something was wrong. As if he could tell her she saw his true form, fainted, and was then corrupted into believing it was a dream. He couldn't bear to see her scared of him.

"Sure, that sounds great!" Anna smiled.

He had quite literally read her mind.
