4 - Longest Testing

"Test Subject 9536 please report to testing. Test Subject 9536 please report to testing," I hear on the speakers.

"I hope my testing isn't as long as last time," I say to myself.

I take the transporter to testing and I tell the protector my numbers. He lets me into testing after doing so. I follow the scientist waiting for me into the testing room I will be in today.

"Today's testing will be long again," she tells me.

Not again.

She hands me the very familiar purple drink. I quickly drink it and lay down because I want to get this over with.

"How are you doing?" The scientist asks me.

"Yes," I say.

"Get up," says the scientist.

I open my eyes and stand up.

"Do you have any difficulty getting up?" She asks me.

"I don't understand, why would I have difficulty getting up?" I ask.

"It doesn't matter," says the scientist.

"Fine," I say.

"I would like you to get me a glass of water," says the scientist.

I walk over to the cabinet and get out a glass. I pour water into the glass and give it to her.

"Follow me," she says.

I follow her to a room identical to this one.

"Get me a glass of water," she says.

I open the cabinet in this room and take out a glass. I turn the water on and pour water into the glass. I then give the water to her.

"What next?" I ask.

"We will be doing more swimming," she says.

"Swimming? Is that where you move around the pool?" I ask.

"Yes," she replies.

I follow her to a room with a swimming pool. We go into a room off of the room with the swimming pool to change.

"Why do we need to change?" I ask.

"We change into swimming suits. We change so our clothes don't get all wet."

I don't reply. Soon I follow her into the swimming pool.

"Swim to over there," she says pointing to the opposite side of the pool, "and back until I say to stop."

"Understood," I reply.

I swim to the other side and back.

One hand above the water, the other hand under.

One foot under the water, the other one above.

I repeat this motion a countless number of times.

To one side of the pool and back.

"Stop!" she says once I have gone from one side of the pool to the other 50 times.

"We will be going back to the testing room. First we will change," she says.

"Understood," I say following her to get changed.

After changing, I follow her back into the testing room.

"That ends our testing for now," she says.

"Understood," I reply.

She hands me a purple drink.

"Drink it and lay down," she says.

I drink it and lay down on the bed. I am very sleepy.

"End Program," I hear her say.

"Get up," she says.

I find that I am having a very hard time getting up.

"I'm... I'm... having trouble," I say.

"I see. I will help you get up," she says putting me into some sort of chair.

"You will have to be in this chair for now," she tells me.

"I will bring you back to the teleporter. The chair moves on its own. You control it," she tells me.

I move the chair to follow her. At first I it is a little hard, but I get used to it pretty quickly.

"You will have testing again later today. You have time in your room right now," she tells me.

"I see," I say.

I get in the transporter once we have left testing. I take the transporter to my room.

While in my room, I think about the fact that I have to use this chair to get around now. I start to wonder how long I will have to use it for and why I have to use it. It must be because I was having trouble getting up.

"Test Subject 9536 please report to testing. Test subject 9536 please report to testing," I hear after what feels like forever.

"Finally," I say to myself.

I tired of staying in this room for so long having to sit in this chair.

I take the teleporter to testing and tell the protector my number when I get there. One of the protectors looks at me weird but lets me in anyways.

"Follow me," says the scientist.

I follow her to the testing room we will be in now.

She hands me the purple drink and says, "Drink this! Then lay down as always!"

The scientist seems to be excited right now. I wonder why.

I drink the purple drink and lay down as always.

"Get up," says the scientist.

"I feel..." I say.

"What do you feel?" she asks.

"Hard?" I say unsure.

"Well get up," she says.

I stand up but I fall over.

"My weight..." I say.

It seems that I cannot support the weight of my body.

"Please try again," she says.

She helps me up but I find that I cannot move at all. It's like my body is glued to the ground.

"I can't move," I say.

She goes to a machine in the room and starts doing something on it-I don't know what.

"Now try," she says.

I can move again, but I fall over again.

"Let's try again," she says.

We keep on trying-24 more times to be exact-until I don't fall over right away.

"Good job!" she exclaims, clapping.

"Let's try to get further!" she says.

I keep on going until I have tried 63 more times and I can walk around for a little bit without falling over.

"Let's get you to the swimming pool," she tells me.

"Understood," I reply.

I follow her to the swimming pool. I fall plenty of times, but we make it in 30 minutes.

"Now be careful getting to the room where we will change," she says.

I try to be careful getting over there. I don't fall in the pool once.

We get changed and then we leave.

"We will get into the pool now," she says walking over to the shallow area of the pool.

While getting over there, I fall into the pool. I can feel myself going farther and farther down...

I hear voices. It must be the scientists.

"She's eligible," says a male voice.

"She's doing the best in testing. She could become ineligible at any time," a second male voice says.

"That's exactly why we should put her on the list."

"Then what about testing?"

"I'm sure we will find someone even better," says the first person.

"Testing could worsen on her at any time," says the second voice.

"How about we do both?" says a female voice that I recognize. It must be the female scientist.

"Huh?" both male voices say in illusion.

"Let's do both, since you two are bickering on which to do," she says.

"I'm going to resume testing now. Anyway, we should make it so she can't hear things if needed," says the female.

"I agree," says the second male voice.

"How are you going to do that when she can't move?" asks the first male voice.

"You will see," says the female.

I hear the female getting something and then walking. She stops. I feel my mouth being opened and something being forced down my throat.

"Get up," says the scientist.

I try to get up.

I try to speak but I cannot move my mouth.

"Get up," she says again.

I try to say that I cannot get up but I cannot.

"Get up," she says.

"Get up," she says.

"I know how we will deal with this," she says.

"End program," she says.

"Get up," I hear her say.

I try to get up, but I find that I cannot.

"Get up," she says again.

"Hello," she says to me.

I try to say hello back, but I find that my mouth will not move.

"End program," she says.

"Get up," I hear her say.

I try to get up but I can't. I can't speak either.

"End program," she says.

"Get up," she says.

"Error: Unable to complete your command," I say, my mouth not moving at all.

"Good. It's working," she says.

"Silence Words," she says.

"Could you hear me?" she asks.

"No," I say my mouth not moving this time either.

"That's good. That's working. End program," she says.

"Get up," she says.

"Error: Command unknown," I say.

"End program," she says.

"Error: Command unknown," I say.

"Ugh," she says.

I hear her walk to somewhere else in the room.

"I'm ending the program now..." I hear her say to herself.

"Get up," she says.

I get up.

"Good. Hello," she says to me.

"Hello," I reply.

"Good, very good," she says.

"What is next?" I ask.

"We are going to go swimming. Do you know what that is?" she asks me.

"Yes, I know what swimming is," I say following her out of the room and to the swimming pool.

When we reach the room with the swimming pool, we change and then go into the pool at the shallow side.

"I want you to swim to the other side," she says pointing to the other side, "and back."

"Understood," I reply.

I swim to the other side and back. It is a little hard, but doable.

"Good," she says.

"What is next?" I ask.

"Follow me," she says swimming to the other side.

I follow her to the other side and back.

"Good. We will get changed and go back," she says.

After we get changed into regular clothes, I follow her back into the testing room we were in before.

"Drink this and lay down," she says.

I take the purple drink and lay down after drinking it.

"End program," she says.

"Get up. Your testing is done for today. I would like you to spend the rest of the day in your room. I will bring you a teleporter," says the scientist.

"What about the chair?" I ask, realizing my voice sounds different and my mouth isn't moving.

"You don't need it now," she says.

"Oh," I say, my voice still sounding different.

I don't like how my voice sounds now, so I decide to not talk at all. The way my voice sounds is weird and embarrassing.

I follow the scientist down the hall to the teleporter. Once we reach it, I get in and go to my room.

"Now that there is no one around, I should figure out what is different about my voice," I say.

I realize that my voice doesn't exactly sound human. It doesn't sound like anyone else's voice. It sounds like it was created.

"Hello? I'm speaking to see what my voice sounds like," I say.

My voice sounds different besides the fact that it doesn't sound like an actual voice.

"I will win! What do you want to do?" I say.

My voice sounds emotionless. I decide to try saying something that requires a lot of emotion or something like that to see if it really is emotionless.

"No... No... I don't believe it... There's no way I lost! I will win this next round for sure! Just you wait, you will lose!" I say, realizing my voice really is emotionless.

That's why I have to be in my room for rest of today. At least I hope that's why. It seems like a good reason why. I would be really embarrassed talking to my friend like this!

I lay down my bed and do absolutely nothing. I will be bored for the rest of today for sure!

"Dinner is here," I hear.

"I fell asleep," I say forgetting that my voice is different.

"Ugh, I hate how my voice is now," I say.

"I know what I should do. If I hate my voice, I should stop talking," I say sitting down to eat.

I try to eat my food wondering why my voice changed.

I wonder why it changed. Did it have to do with testing? Was it an accident? Was it on purpose? No. I shouldn't think about this.

After a failed attempt to eat, I decide to get ready for bed. After getting ready for bed, I go to sleep hungry.

"Test subject 9536 please report to testing. Test subject 9536 please report to testing," I hear.

I get up and go to testing.

"Follow me," says the familiar female scientist right inside of testing.

"I will be doing some testing on your speech. I will ask you to say some words," she says.

I nod.

Why does this have to happen?!

"Say these words: Hello; I understand; I'm coming; Alright; let's play a game; Oh! It's time to our rooms; Bye; I wish I could play, but we have to go to our rooms. Say all of that please," she says.

"I don't remember what to say," I say because I don't want to say those words.

"Oh. Drink this," she says handing me the purple drink.

I take the purple drink from her hand and I drink it. After doing so, I lay down and let myself fall asleep.

"Hello. Get up," says the scientist.

"Hello," I say getting up.

"Please say these words: Hello; I understand; I'm coming; Alright; let's play a game; Oh! It's time to our rooms; Bye; I wish I could play, but we have to go to our rooms," she says.

"Hello. I understand. I'm coming. Alright. Let's play a game. Oh! It's time to go to our rooms. Bye. I wish I could play, but we have to go to our rooms," I say.

"Good. This is going as expected," she says.

"What is?" I ask.

"It's nothing," she says.

"What is?" I ask.

"What you said," she says.

"Understood," I say.

"Good," she replies.

"What about eating?" I hear her say to herself.

"What about eating?" I ask.

"Oh. We are going to eat," she says.

I follow her to a place to eat where she gives me food.

"Eat this," she says.

I pick it up and try to eat it but my mouth will not open.

"Hmm... Follow me," she says.

"What about eating?" I ask.

"We will do that later," she tells me.

"Understood," I reply.

I follow her back to the testing room.

"Here drink this and then lay down," she says handing me a purple drink.

I take the purple drink, drink it, and then I lay down.

"End program," she says.

"Get up," she says.

I get up.

"We will eat now," she tells me.

"Understood," I reply.

I follow her to go eat.

She puts cords through my nose.

"Put the food into here," she says.

"Where?" I ask.

"This machine," she says pointing to the machine.

I put the food in it.

"Good. Let's go back now," she says.

I follow her back.

"End program," she says.

"Hello. Please get up," she says.

I open my eyes and get up.

"We will eat," she says.

"What about going to my room or to the lounge?" I ask.

"Your testing is still going on," she replies.

"Oh," I say.

"Put the food into this machine," she says pointing to a machine with cords sticking out of it.

She then puts the ends of the cords sticking out of it into my nose.

I put the food into the machine.

"There will be a machine like this in your room. You will be using it for several days," she tells me.

"Alright," I reply.

"I will bring you to the nearest transporter. You have time in the lounge right now," she says.

I follow her to the nearest transporter and I get in. Once I reach testing, I hope that my friend isn't here. I find that she isn't.

Good. She isn't here. My voice is really embarrassing like this.

I sit down in the chair and fall asleep.
