"Test Subject #9536, please report for testing. Test Subject #9536, please report for testing," I hear.
I walk to the nearest transporter and walk in. A red light flashes and then I touch "testing." The transporter then starts to move and go to "testing." I am the only one in this transporter, and that is the way it always is. I have never been in a transporter with anyone else.
The transporter starts to move slowly, getting faster by the second. I know that I will soon be at my destination. That makes me smile a little, as I think about how lost I would be without transporters. I don't know the place at all, and I don't have time to explore. I am busy doing other things.
I don't even know if I can leave the areas I am in most of the time unless I use a transporter. I can only use a transporter at certain times, but I haven't looked for an alternate routes. When I have free time and I am in the lounge, I don't look around to find a way out. I don't have a reason to if I'm relaxing.
The transporter starts to slow down and I know I will soon be at my destination. I wonder what I will be tested on today. No, I can't think about that. What I'm being tested on doesn't matter.
When I exit the transporter, I see two protectors. Protectors are here to protect everyone and make sure that everyone goes to where they are supposed to go. These two protectors that I see are guarding the door to testing.
"What is your number?" asks the protector on the right.
"9536," I reply.
The other protector opens the door and I walk in. He closes the door right after I enter.
"9536, this way," a scientist says after I enter.
I follow the scientist down a brightly lit hall. All of the hallways are like this. I haven't seen a place that isn't lit up. We finally reach a door in the brightly lit hallway that says "Testing Room 57."
"In here," she says.
The door opens when I get in front of it. I walk right through it once this happens. I then see the familiar sights of a testing room. All of the testing rooms look the same, so I have pretty much memorized what they look like. When you walk in a testing room, there is a desk and chair to your right. There is a bed to your left but farther into the testing room. There are a bunch of machines all around and a counter with cabinets. The size of the room is perfect for the amount of things that have been put in here. It is not too big or too small.
"Please lie down on the bed and drink this," says the scientist handing me a dark purple drink which I drink and then lie down on the bed.
"Alright," I hear a voice which seems to be the scientist from before.
"Now stand up," I hear a man's voice say.
I stand up with my eyes still closed.
"Open your eyes," he says to me.
I open them without hesitation. It's as if I am being controlled.
"That wasn't what we wanted..." I hear him say.
"What did you want?" I ask.
"Undo," he says.
I stay put.
"Undo," he speaks again.
I close my eyes.
"Undo," he says yet again.
I get back into the bed exactly the way I was before.
"Hmm..." I hear from the man.
"What is it?" asks a female voice.
"There's something we need to do... but what?" he seems to say to himself.
"No, that's not it," I hear him mutter.
"We need to make this more realistic," he concludes.
"I agree with you. We can try the other version I have," the female voice from before agrees.
"Alright, that's what we will do," he says.
"Drink this," she tells me.
I take the drink she is holding and drink it. I don't know how I take it with my eyes closed or drink it laying down, but I do. I guess it doesn't matter how I did it.
"Get up," says the female voice.
I open my eyes and slowly get up. I then stand next to the bed and wait for what the scientists are going to say next.
"It needs more emotion," he says.
"Yes, it does. I can work on that. Let's try some other commands first," she says.
"What should we try?" he asks.
"Sit. We should try sit," she says in a demanding voice.
"Are you sure?" he asks.
"Yes. I'm sure," she says.
"Sit," she tells me.
I sit right on the ground. It is not the most comfortable, but she told me to sit. I have to sit.
"Undo. Sit on the bed. Get me a glass of water," she commands me.
I sit on the bed and then say, "I cannot do that command while sitting. I do not know "get me a glass of water." Could you be more specific?"
"Fine. Name: Get me a glass of water. Commands: Stand up. Walk to the cabinets. Open cabinet 5 of Testing Room 57. Take out a glass. Look at the counter until you see a knob next to a J shaped object. Turn the knob until you see a white or clear object that you can somewhat see through. Put the glass under it until you see the glass is at least a 1 inch from being all filled up. Walk over to me and hand me the glass," she says.
I first stand up and walk over to the cabinets. I then open cabinet 5 of this testing room and take out a glass. I find the knob she is talking about, turn the knob until I see the clear or white object she is talking about, put the glass under the water until it is 1 inch from being filled up and walk over to her. I then hand her the glass.
"Follow me," she tells me.
I follow her farther down the hallway until we reach a room labeled Testing Room 72. I follow her into the room. It is identical to the room I was in before.
"Get me a glass of water," she commands me.
I start to walk out of the room and go back to Testing Room 57 when she says, "Cancel command," and I stop.
"What is it?" I ask.
"Follow me," is all she says.
I follow her back down the hall and into Testing Room 57. I wonder if I did something wrong.
"Undo Name: Get me a glass of water," she says.
"What happened?" asks the man.
"I need to do some more programming. Let's work on this some more later. It's getting close to the third meal," she tells him.
It definitely seems that I did something wrong. I don't know what I did wrong if I was just following orders.
"Lay down. Drink this," the man says handing me a purple drink and I somehow drink it while laying down.
"End Program," I hear the female say.
I slowly open my eyes.
"Do you feel that anything is wrong?" the female scientist asks me.
"No, nothing feels wrong," I say.
"Alright, you can go to the mess hall. Your third meal will be starting soon. I will guide you to a transporter," she tells me a soothing voice.
I follow the scientist down the hall to a transporter. There is no conversation along the way and this is normal. Test subjects are not allowed to leisurely have a conversation with the workers here.
While we are walking down the hall, I start to wonder what the scientists did. I wonder... No. I shouldn't think about that. It doesn't matter what they did.
Once we reach a transporter, I get in and I see the scientist walk away. While in the transporter I press the button to go to the mess hall. The transporter starts to get faster and faster. Soon the transporter is starting to get slower and slower...
I get out pretty close to the doors that lead into the mess hall. When I reach the doors, I see that the third meal of the day hasn't started yet so I wait outside for it to start.
I only have to wait a few minutes for my third meal to start. Once it starts, I have trouble deciding where I should sit. I am thinking about sitting next to one of my friends, but I don't see any of them.
"Hey 9536!" a friend of mine calls to me gesturing for me to come over to her.
I go over to her and sit down with her.
"Hi 9624," I say to her.
This friend of mine, 9624, is very lively. She is really good at cheering me up. I can talk about anything with her. Sometimes we read books in the library together and we give the characters weird or funny voices. We try not to laugh too much, as we have gotten in trouble for being too loud in the library a few times. That isn't that bad compared to the time when we were talking about the experiments. We got in big trouble for talking about what might be happening during our experiments. We both promised to not make theories about what could be going on during experiments after the incident. Overall, 9624 is a really good friend of mine that I wouldn't want replaced.
"Later we should play a game in the lounge," she says to me.
"Yeah, that sounds fun," I say.
"I heard they will be giving some test subjects less free time," she says.
"Really? How much less?" I ask, surprised. I didn't know that some test subjects lost some of their free time.
"Well... Today we woke up at seven and at 7:30 we have our first meal. Then at 8 we have an hour in our rooms. From nine to twelve we have free time. At twelve we have our second meal and at 12:30 we have to stay in our rooms for 30 minutes. At thirteen everyone has 30 minutes of testing. After that we have free time until our third meal and after our third meal we have free time until we have 30 minutes in our rooms and then sleep. We could have testing at any point during our free time. It seems some test subjects will be guaranteed to have testing at certain times of the day. Anyway, when we have free time and all changes each day. Who knows if it's true," says my friend.
"Yeah, who knows? Usually when we hear that something will happen it doesn't. This time it will probably be the same. If some test subjects were guaranteed to have testing at certain times in the day besides at thirteen to 13:30, it could be easier," I say.
"What do you mean?" she asks.
"If you know that you have testing at certain times in the day, then it can be easier to do something such as read or play games," I say.
"That is true," she replies, biting into her food after.
"If it does happen, I hope I'm not one of those test subjects," I say.
"Huh? Oh. You worry too much! They aren't going to take away free time of some of the test subjects!" she tries to reassure me.
"Yeah, your right," I say but I am not completely reassured.
We both continue to eat our food until we finish and dinner ends.
"All test subjects are to spend 30 minutes in their rooms," we hear a voice say.
We both go to our rooms.
While in my room, I worry about what my friend heard. I know that it's probably not true, but I can't help but worry. I believe things I or others hear easily.
What if it was true? Then what would happen? Would I end up spending less time with my friends? Would I change? No. It's not going to happen. I need to stop worrying about this.
After being in our rooms for 30 minutes, we have free time.
"Over here 9624!" I call to her.
"What game should we play?" I ask when she comes over.
"Is there any game you want to play?" she asks me in an excited voice.
"Not really. Let's look for a game unless you have one in mind," I say.
"I love all games!" she exclaims.
We look at the games to see which one we should play.
"Let's play this one where you try to get zero cards," I say.
"Alright! That sounds fun!" she says in an energetic voice.
The game turns out to be longer than we expected. When it seemed my friend would win, I ended up winning.
"I win," I say.
"Let's play again! I was sooo close to winning!" she says.
"I'm fine with playing again. I like this game," I say.
After we play another round, I was nowhere near close to winning. 9624 won easily. We decide to play a few more rounds and she wins all of them except the last. I win the last one.
"I win!" I say.
"Let's play again. I was close to winning! So close!" she says.
"You still had a bunch of cards left!" I say.
"I demand a rematch!" she declares.
"All test subjects please get ready for bed," we hear the voice say.
"No fair! Just when I demand a rematch!" she says.
"We can always have a rematch tomorrow," I say.
"Your right. Let's do that then!" she says.
"It's decided," I reply.
We both go our own ways and get ready for bed. After getting ready for bed I go to sleep. I am tired from playing that game so much. I fall asleep right away. I have nothing to worry about.
In the morning, I sit with my friend again at our first meal.
"I can't wait for the rematch!" she exclaims.
"I will win!" I say.
"No! I will definitely win! You will see!" she says.
"All test subjects, your schedules will be changing very soon. Expect to have less free time and more time in your rooms and in testing. Some test subjects will no longer be eating in the mess hall," a voice says.
We both look at each other.
I had entirely forgotten about that. She tried to convince me that it wouldn't happen, but it turns out what my friend heard was true!
AN: So this is the first chapter of this story. I will be trying to work on this one and Futuristic Utopia a lot. I will try to get a chapter of each out weekly. School starts soon, so I don't know if I should really work on my stories or play a lot of video games and all.
