1. Softness is a weakness, let it be burnt out of you.

EMEL HARCOURT is everything a criminal shouldn't be. Soft, clumsy, weak, as her adopted father CADE HARCOURT, Gotham's Glutton King, so promptly puts it. He is the provider, the saviour, using his wits and his greed to carve out an empire off the backs of the citizens of their city. There are many things EMEL HARCOURT is not, and many things she should be. She should be grateful for the luxury she bathes in. She should be loving to the father who's shaped her into what she is. And she should be getting off her ass to follow in Cade's footsteps.

2. Clumsiness is a suicide bomb, attached to each of your limbs.

But EMEL HARCOURT is not her father. If she's going to be a criminal, she'll go about it in the gentlest way possible. Thus comes the failed, barely even attempted, siege on the underbelly of Gotham. The night her shoddily made plan is put into action, everything goes wrong. The city turns on her, the police come searching for answers, and Gotham's long absent DARK KNIGHT emerges from the shadows to take a bite out of the cake Emel has so carelessly set out for him. Because of Emel, her father is taken into custody. Because of Emel, she's limping through the upper east side with a bullet wound and nowhere –no one– to turn to.

3. A soft heart is the key to failure.

Because EMEL HARCOURT is not a criminal, no matter how hard she tries.

well, well, well, what do we have here? as some may know, i am an absolute chris nolan stan, and the dark knight trilogy has been one of my greatest loves. a while ago, i got an idea for a fic (if anyone remembers DANGEROUS SUSPECTS ily) but i repurposed that idea for another one of my marvel fics.

this idea came to me when rewatching the batman 2022, but i think the premise fits much better with tdk so here we go!! this is a platonic fic between emel and bruce, but it's also incredibly character-driven and will focus on emel's relationship with her father (very much a silco-jinx dynamic between those two) and herself. she's one of the gentlest, softest characters i've written and i'm very excited to explore her more if i ever publish this!!
