A Day With Damon
On Saturday morning, I woke up feeling all warm and happy inside. I practically leaped out of bed and put on some of my nicest clothes, made sure everything I was wearing was perfect, then sat and waited for the remaining three hours I had.
I decided to put on a record. I got up from the couch and looked through my collection of Pink Floyd and The Beatles that my mother gave me. I settle on the album 'Wish You Where Here' by Pink Floyd.
Whilst listening, I imagined little scenarios in my head as to what we'd be doing today. I lay on the couch, twirling hair in my fingers and waiting for the minutes to pass by, lost in my thoughts, enjoying the music.
That is until I'm dragged out of my thoughts by Emily bursting out of her bedroom door and into the living room screaming the lyrics to 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond'. I jumped upright and made a small yelp in surprise as she continued to sing loudly.
"Bloody hell, good morning, sunshine," I say, surprised as Emily usually isn't in such a good mood when she wakes up.
"Morning!" She giggles, walking over to me and sitting beside me on the couch.
"What's gotten you so happy?" I ask, moving my legs off the sofa and shuffling next to her.
She grins, "Today's the day you see your one true love!"
My face heats up, "H-he's not my true love! I barely know the man, stop saying such silly things."
"Pfft, please! You obviously like each other!" She laughs.
"Em, please stop," I mumble, "don't get my hopes up."
Emily frowns and brings her hand to my back, rubbing circles into it, "You're more than you think you are, kiddo."
I nod and pull her into my arms, holding her tightly as the music plays, "I love you, Em."
"I love you too, J," she replies.
And we just sit there for a while.
-
When I hear the knock at the door, I leap off the couch and rush over, Emily giving me a thumbs up as I take a deep breath. I turn the doorknob and open the door slowly, doubting if it's actually him.
There stands the boy with the bowl cut hair, he's wearing a thin, black turtleneck jumper and dark blue parachute jeans. He smiles at me and I can't help but smile back.
"'Ello, love," he grins.
"Hey, Damon," I smile, "want to come in?"
"Alright," he says as he slips past me through the door.
"So, what are we doing today?" I ask him, closing the door.
"You'll have to wait and see," he grins.
"Be good to her," Emily says, appearing behind Damon.
He laughs, "I wouldn't dream of being awful."
I blush as Damon smiles at me, Emily grins. Damon rises from the couch and walks over to me. He smiles warmly and walks towards the door.
"Shall we?" He grins, nodding towards the door.
"Okay," I say, smiling as I slip on the first pair of shoes I see.
"Have fun, kids!" Emily calls after us as we walk out the door.
-
Damon smiles as we walk down the street, it's a sunny day with a cool breeze. The sunlight highlights all his facial features perfectly and it illuminates his eyes.
"Now can you tell me what we're doing?" I ask, playfully jabbing him in the side with my elbow.
He just smiles and takes my hand, pulling me into a busy park. As soon as we entered, I thought he'd let go of my hand, but he held it tightly, slowly swinging our arms. I blushed as he held my hand in his, it felt like they perfectly fitted together. We walked in silence, it was a comfortable silence though.
A few people approached him for an autograph, so he had to let my hand go. I frowned to myself as he did, knowing he probably wouldn't take it again. Once he'd finished, we carried on walking through the park, making small talk.
"So, how was your week, love?" He asks.
"It was okay, I've been working, so not much has really happened," I shrug.
"Ah, right. What do you do?"
"I work at a music shop, I usually just stack records and tune the instruments," I say, "nothing exciting."
"Sounds nice," he says, "what's the shop called?"
"Applegrave's musical emporium," I giggle.
"Brilliant," he laughs, "I should stop by some time."
"That would be nice," I smile.
He grins and takes my hand again, leading me out of the park. Once we're back on the street, he looks around then turns to me and smiles.
"Want something to eat?" He asks me.
"Sounds good right now, I'm starving," I laugh.
He grins and pulls me playfully down the street towards a small café. Whenever I'm with him, time seems to slow down. Everything is too perfect, the way my hand fits in his, how much he smiles at me and the crazy amounts of times he can make me blush within ten minutes. It's all too much like a movie.
The café looks nice. Damon holds the door open for me and I blush and step inside. The place on the inside is small and sweet and smells of fresh coffee. He leads me over to a small table for two by the window. We sit down and read through the menu, glancing up at each other occasionally.
We both settle on sandwiches and tea, Damon refuses to let me pay as he leaves the table to order. I sit alone in silence, blushing and smiling like a moron. Damon makes me feel happy, I'm glad Emily dragged me out to the pub that night.
Damon returns shortly after, smiling and sitting down opposite me. I turn to face him and smile, a comfortable silence sits between us.
"So, what do think of Leisure?" He asks.
"It's brilliant, I love it," I grin.
He blushed, "oh, thank you."
"You've made me stray away from my usual bands."
"Who do you usually listen to?" He asks, leaning on the table.
"Well, usually it's Pink Floyd, The Beatles and Guns N Roses," I say, leaning back in my chair.
"Awesome, I heard that Guns N Roses are releasing a new album soon," Damon says.
My eyes widen and I smile, "really?"
Damon nods.
"Oh my God I can't wait!" I giggle in excitement.
"Well since you work in a music store you'll be able to get your hands on it easily enough," Damon laughs.
"Ah, very true," I smile.
A waitress then approaches us and sets down our sandwiches and tea. We smile and thank her, shortly after we begin to eat, that same comfortable silence filling the air.
-
"Come on! Just give me one tiny drag!" I say, reaching for the cigarette in Damon's fingers.
"Absolutely not!" He says, swiftly moving his arm away from me.
"Why?" I whine, crossing my arms across my chest like a stroppy child.
"I don't want you to die because of your weak lungs," he says, raising his eyebrows.
"One drag won't do anything..." I say, trying to conceal my blush as he just showed he cared about me.
"No," he sighs, "passive smoking can't be good either."
Damon drops the cigarette and steps on it, putting it out. I sigh and roll my eyes. Damon laughs and takes my hand, I blush and swing our linked hands slowly as we walk down the street.
-
"Damon, help!" I squeak in fear as the pigeons that surround me take flight.
"I warned you not to go near all those bloody pigeons," he laughs, running to rescue me.
"Help me!" I giggle as he runs through the clump of pigeons making them fly off in different directions, away from me.
He laughs and stops in front of me and rolls his eyes. I giggle and watch the pigeons fly away, smiling. Damon turns to me and shakes his head slowly as he laughs.
"My hero," I say to him giggling.
-
"How do you not get chocolate sprinkles on your ice cream?" Damon questions.
I shrug, "I just like sherbet on it I guess."
"But chocolate sprinkles is the classic thing to have on ice cream!" He exclaims, "especially if it's from an ice cream van."
"I thought it was a flake that was the classic thing?"
"No, love, I reckon it's chocolate sprinkles," he sighs.
"Well I like flakes and sherbet," I laugh, eating my ice cream happily.
Damon shakes his head and laughs, "let me try some."
"Okay," I grin.
I bring the ice cream up to Damon's face, but before he can eat any of it, I move it upwards and smear some on his face.
"Eww!" Damon laughs as he pushes my hand away, "ugh, that's had your tongue all over it!"
"That's for insulting my ice cream choices," I giggle.
"That's it," he laughs, wiping away the ice cream with the sleeve of his jumper, "you've made me ruin my jumper now. I'll kill you!"
I giggle, "you'll have to catch me first!"
I take off running and Damon follows me. He's fast, a lot faster than me. I feel my lungs burning for air so I'm forced to slow down after I've only ran about one hundred metres. I stop and suck in deep breaths. Damon stops beside me.
"You okay, love?" He asks, placing his hand on my back.
"Yeah," I say, nodding and breathing heavily.
"Good," he says, once my breathing pattern is normal again.
Damon then begins to tickle my sides making me laugh uncontrollably. He giggles and continues to tickle me.
"Stop! Damon!" I laugh, nearly falling over.
"Never! This is what you get for ruining my jumper!" He laughs.
"I'm sorry!" I yelp, "please stop!"
"You have to say you surrender," he laughs.
I am stubborn so I don't say it right away. Instead, I let him tickle me until I'm poetically leaning on him so o can stand upright.
"I...surrender..." I say, between laughs.
"Okay, good," he laughs and stops tickling me.
"I bet we look absolutely insane," I laugh, "a man and a woman over twenty having a tickle fight in a park."
"You make me do such silly things," he laughs.
"Are you implying that I'm silly?" I ask.
"Yes," he laughs and takes my hand, "but I like silly."
-
For the rest of the day Damon and I walked hand in hand through the streets and talked about whatever random subject popped into our heads. It was nice, one of the best days I've had in a long time.
He walked me home, said goodby and promised to come visit me at work at some point. As soon as I walked through the door Emily sat me down and forced me to tell her absolutely everything, so I did.
She grinned and gushed over me and Damon, saying how we where 'couple goals' and shit. I just shook my head and laughed, blushing occasionally.
Emily then made dinner, we watched TV and went to bed. The last few hours of the day where boring and I missed Damon. I lay awake in my bed replaying today in my head, smiling and blushing at everything that happened.
I sigh and turn onto my side, turning off my lamp beside my bed. I close my eyes and let my dreams take me away.
