Tempted

[Erick’s POV]

I rushed through the hospital doors and ran straight towards Rachel’s room; everyone was going to kill me.

As I walked down her corridor I saw my brothers waiting outside; there was a doctor talking to them; their whole expressions changed. Jared gasped and Michael put his face in hands. The doctor then went into Rachel’s room. As I reached closer to my brothers they took note of me.

Jared punched my shoulder “Where have you been bro?”

“Everyone has been calling your phone!” Michael added.

“I’m sorry” I breathed out “What’s going on?”

“Not good Erick” Michael said solemnly he looked at Jared.

“What!?” I asked nervous.

“She lost the baby Erick”

“Oh shit” I ran my hands through my hair “Is she okay?”

“NOO!!!!!!!!” There was a loud piercing scream from her room. “WHY ME!?” Rachel bawled.

Moments later the doctor came out his face unreadable.

“Nope” Jared answered. “She isn’t”

I stepped nervously into her room.

Everyone was there; Rachel’s mom, dad and then my parents.

Before the door even closed the interrogation began “Where the hell have you been Erick!?”

I glanced at Rachel who laid on her bed lifelessly; she was just staring into the distance, tears fell from her face.

“Nowhere” I mumbled

“Well you should have been somewhere, which was here!”

“Hunny stop it” my mom intervened, putting a hand on my father’s chest “He’s been through a lot”

“What do you mean!? The kid hasn’t been through anything! Look at my daughter!” Rachel’s father shouted, all eyes fell on Rachel again. Her eyes slowly met mine; it was casted with pain and...

She looked at my father “You lied to me”

He opened his mouth and closed it again.

“Now everyone get out I need to speak to Erick alone” she croaked.

Everyone filed out as she demanded and once my father left she began.

“Maxine?”

I stared at her, I didn’t know what to say

“Maxwell right?”

I nodded

“How did you know?”

“I’m not that stupid; it was becoming obvious”

“When?”

“For a little while; I realised when you didn’t come to see me when I was first admitted” she began to cry. I took a step forward

“Stay away from me!”

I stepped back.

“You’re gay?”

“Bisexual”

She nodded.

“You love him still?”

“Yes?”

“You want him”

“Very badly”

She sniffed I see. “I’m relieved”

“Why?” I whispered

She rubbed her now empty stomach.

“That baby didn’t deserve the life it was going to have to live”

I swallowed not saying anything.

“I’m sorry Rachel”

She nodded turning her face to the side. “Get out”

I did as she said; wiping loose tears with the back of my hand.

Everyone who was once in the room filed back in.

Except my dad and mom

“Erick”

“Dad”

“Come here” he motioned me closer with his finger and I followed

“You are not leaving that girl; do you understand me?”

“Hun” my mom looked sadly at my dad

“No!” he continued to glare at me

“I said do you understand me Erick Carter?”

“Yes”

[Max’s POV]

“I’m gonna miss you son” my dad said sternly as he hit my shoulder. “Be safe, don’t talk to strangers and don’t drink; you could never hold it”

I smiled “Thanks dad” we embraced briefly and tightly. He sniffed trying to keep back his tears but Maddie and mom were already bawling.

I picked up my suitcase of the last things that remained in my dad’s house and waved at all of them and they waved back.

“Make sure you call and visit us!” Trudy shouted after me “And make sure you wear the jumper I knitted for you on the plane!”

“I will Mom!”

As I climbed into my car I drove off turning on the radio; trying not to let sad thoughts consume me.

Serenity placed a hand on mine “You alright?”

“Yeah” I whispered; my throat clambering up.

She shot me a soft smile

“I love the airport! They always have expensive candy!” Drake shouted from the back

“Yeah!” Trinity squealed in agreement.

“I’m gonna get Max to buy me some” I heard him whisper to Trinity.

“Same here” she whispered back

“No I’m not” I answered them back with for the first time an actual genuine smile.

Once we checked all my bags in; they waited with me at my gate. We joked and played around. A sadness welled up in me. I was going to miss these guys so much.

FLIGHT 547689 LAX TO JFK IS NOW READY TO BOARD. ALL PASSENGERS FLYING WITH AMERICAN AIRLINES TO NEW YORK CITY CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE YOUR WAY TO GATE 4A WHICH IS NOW OPEN.

We all paused and watched all the people who were now filing at the gate.

“This is it” I smiled.  All their faces were down. Serenity flicked a tear from her eye whilst a waterfall was streaming from Trinity’s.

I gave my car keys and airport parking ticket to Serenity. “You’re gonna need this” I smiled

She took them and put them in her handbag “How are you going to get your car to New York?”

“I’m gonna buy another car; I want you to have this one”

“Seriously?!” the three said in union

“He was talking to us” Trinity shouted at Drake pushing his head away

I chuckled “Yeah” I scratched the back of my head awkwardly “A present I guess from me, just to say thank you guys- for everything.”

They kissed each side of my cheeks before we shared a three-way hug.

“What about me?” Drake crossed his arms.

I grinned crossing my arms also “What about you?”

He shrugged trying not to look bothered “I deserve something too”

My grin turned softer I dipped my hand into my back wallet and took out a $20 note. “Here, you can buy that expensive candy you won’t shut up about.”

He snatched the money out of my hand a huge smile on his face “Thanks!” he took a step forward and quickly put his lips on mine, his tongue devouring mine. It was short but amazing. He ended our embrace with a tight hug.

“Erm thank you Drake?” I breathed out, shocked

 Trinity was giggling in the background whilst Serenity’s was one of shock.

“Just wanted to show you what you were missing out on”

I laughed “Right” I bent down and picked up my laptop bag. My eyes glanced towards the entrance for the 1000th time. I must have been delusional to think he would come running through the entrance begging me not go.

This wasn’t a movie.

It was real life.

“Bye guys” I waved as I walked to my gate

“Bye Max!” Drake shouted “Have a safe trip! We’ll be visiting soon!”

“Love you!” the girls shouted in union.

I gave the airport attendant my ticket and walked through towards the plane, small tears escaping.

I took my seat which was by the window.

First class had its perks, there was enough space to stretch my legs and place my bag.

I wore the jumper Trudy made for me it was really big but did its job.

My phone vibrated in my pocket reminding me to turn it off once I answered this call.

“Hello?” I forgot to check caller ID.

“Maxie”

“Chris?”

“The one and only, how are you?”

“I’m as fine as I could ever be”

“Hmm” he dwelled on what I said “I don’t know what to make of that”

“What do you mean?”

“I don’t if that means Erick managed to get you or not”

“He did...”

“But...?”

“He decided I wasn’t enough”

“Ah”

There was some silence on the phone

“Well he’s an idiot”

I chuckled “Thanks” I cleared my throat “You wouldn’t happen to know how Miss Kelly is doing?”

“I do- she’s fine but not her baby”

I frowned “What do you mean?”

“She lost the baby- I don’t know why though”

I sighed “Damn” I closed my eyes praying she would be okay.

“But enough of that sad talk; Last night I was thinking about all the different way I would fuck you- I was going crazy”

I chuckled exasperated “You’re really crazy Chris”

“For your body yes”

I chuckled again.

“Sir you need to turn off your cell phone” a flight attendant was now standing next to me

“Chris I have to go but uh thanks for calling me”

“You’re welcome Max; safe trip and I might just be seeing you sooner than you think”

I smiled hanging up and turning off my phone. The flight attendant smiled and walked away.

I plugged my earphones in and closed my eyes; my life here was over. I was leaving everything.

Including the love of my life.

1 MONTH LATER.

[Max’s POV]

“Argh shit!” I yelled as I got more paint on to my jeans.

I was an absolute hopeless mess at painting houses.

Why was I under the impression that this was going to be a mess free job?

“Coming!”

I ran to the door and opened it.

Was I dreaming?

The paintbrush slipped out of my hand but I couldn’t register my body to do anything.

“Nice color” he smiled nervously. I couldn’t help but notice the big duffel bag on his back.

I swallowed lost for words.

“This is crazy right?”

I nodded.

“Will-Will you take me back?”

“Rachel?”

“She understands”

Your dad?” I whispered

“Doesn’t know yet; he’ll soon find out”

“Why?”

“You’re a crazy temptation Max; one that I can’t fight anymore” he chuckled "I'm tempted to risk everything, to lose everything for you, because it's only been you, it's always ever been you"

A lone tear fell from my eye as I nodded taking what he said in.

He put down his bag.

And held me as I sobbed into his arms.

“I’m sorry I made you wait so long”

He ruffled my hair and tilted my head up “But I’m here to stay now; Max-

“Forever.”
