Chapter 7
Chapter 7
The next few days went by quietly, Wade cut down on the security assigned to Tempest, having only Trae and Lukas Shadow her. Her days started to flow into a semblance of normality, thankfully there were no more victims, but always at the edge of everything there was concern.
Wade stayed away hoping it would help in regards to the Rogue coming after Tempest. All his Enforcers except for Trae and Lukas washed themselves and their clothing with the solution Tempest had given them, they also stayed close by, hidden from sight.
Daytime seemed less of a risk as there were so many people around, so tensions build in the late afternoon leading into evening. Lukas stayed with Tempest during the day, Trae took over in the late afternoon meeting them at The Den where they still went for dinner. They all knew not to get too relaxed, it was at times like that something usually happened.
Trae went ahead to make sure the parking area was clear, he'd then let Lukas know it was safe so he could bring Tempest out to her car. For whatever reason, Tempest sensed something in the air, be it change or violence it unsettled her. She waited by the door with Lukas, when she scented blood she grabbed his hand. "He's here, the Rogue, he's in the parking area." She took a breath, "Trae's down, I can scent his blood. Lukas this might be the only opportunity we have to get him."
Lukas frowned, but knew she was right. "What do you want to do?"
"Notify everyone first, when they're in position I'll go out to meet Trae as if we haven't noticed a problem. The Rogue will come after me Lukas, I know he will."
Lukas shook his head uncertain if he should do as she suggested. In the end the scent of his friend's blood urged him to do what he had to do. "I'll make the call. Move back into the main room as if you've forgotten something. The men will be close, so it won't take long for them to get into position."
Tempest gave him a nod and moved back into the main room looking around as if she'd forgotten or lost something. Stephan came towards her sensing that all was not right and she chatted with him while. Lukas sent out a message to every Enforcer as to what had happened and what they intended doing.
His phone rang and he knew without looking at it who it was. "Alpha," he said when he answered it.
"What the hell is going on there? You have to be crazy if you think I'll support what you..."
"Sorry Wade, but would you like to try and reason with the Doc when Trae is out there wounded?" there was silence on the other end, "that's what I figured. You have to remember, she's a Doctor, a Healer and she'll be thinking with that side of her brain."
Wade knew exactly what he meant, "If anything happens to her!"
He didn't need to elaborate, Lukas knew he'd be dead-meat if Tempest got hurt. "I'm aiming for no more injuries, now if you'll excuse me I have a nervous Doctor to calm before we go out and bag that bastard!" he hung up before Wade could answer him.
Turning to Tempest he called out, "Did you find it yet?"
Going along with their plan Tempest took another look around where she was standing at the same time rummaging in her bag. She pulled out her car keys and held them up, "Got them!" she smiled, thanking Stephan for a wonderful meal as she moved towards Lukas and the door.
As she stepped outside she heard a low growl. Ignoring it she moved further into the parking area until all she could scent was Trae's blood. She turned to Lukas, fear written across her face, hearing the growl coming close behind her, Tempest released her claws and swung at the Rogue as he tried to grab her.
She slashed him across the neck and he called out in pain, "You'll get yours bitch!"
Tempest ducked as he moved to grab her, hearing more footfalls and knowing the Rogue would soon be taken care of, she quickly made her way to where Trae laid unconscious. Lukas was thankfully close behind.
Tempest knelt beside her friend and Shadow. "Trae, Trae can you hear me?" she checked to make sure his heart was still beating, then getting to her feet opening the backdoor of her car. "Lukas! Get him in the back seat, he might need my help and I can't do much here."
When Lukas just stood there staring at Trae, Tempest thumped him in the arm and she didn't hold back her strength. "More him now!" she spoke with so much authority he acted on instinct.
Tempest got in the other side of the car, ignoring the noises of Were's fighting close by. Once Lukas got Trae in the car, she pulled him against her chest, wrapping one arm around his waist, the other around his shoulder. "Keys are on the driver's seat, get me to my office and be quick about it."
Lukas moved, he didn't ask questions knowing his friend might be in a bad way. They had known each other for a long time, treated each other as brothers. If anything were to happen to Trae it would all but devastate him, not to mention Mitch, Wade and the rest of the Pack.
"It's late Doc, will you be able to get in?"
"I've got my own entry card, so it won't be a problem. We'll need to be cautious though, I don't want anyone to see us bringing in Trae." She considered what they were doing, "Lukas, you need to do exactly what I say. There's a body-bag in the back of the car, I need you to get Trae into it. It'll be easier to get him inside that way."
The thought of putting Trae into a body-bag spooked the hell out of Lukas, he turned slightly, remembered he was supposed to be driving and glanced at her in the rear-view-mirror. "You really want to put him into one of those things?"
She sighed with anger, frustration and concern. "Lukas, he's lost a great deal of blood, I need to get him inside as quickly as possible so I can check him over. Putting him in the bag so no is the quickest way to do that."
He nodded, "Okay Doc, but I'm sure as hell going to use it against him when he's standing upright on two strong legs."
Tempest couldn't help but smile, imagining Lukas paying out on Trae about the fact that he'd him putting him in a body-bag, because he actually had. Thankfully there wasn't any police about or they would have been booked for speeding.
When Lukas parked, Tempest got out and moved toward the back entrance of the building to see if anyone was there. Once again luck was with them. She opened the door and ran back to the car to help Lukas with Trae. It was slow going, Trae was a dead weight and even with his Were strength Trae proved heavy.
Finally Tempest gestured to a room just ahead. She opened the door, hit the light switch and moved to close the door as soon as Lukas got Trae inside. She was about to hit the lock on the door when it was pushed open. Tempest did her best to prevent the person from fully opening the door, but when she saw who it was she faltered, which was all that Jax needed to push the door open and come inside. Crap! This is not happening! Think Tempest, think.
Jax looked around the room, a solemn expression on his face. "You want to tell me what's going on here?"
She opened her mouth to speak, but Lukas called out to her. "Doc he's getting worse, he needs your help."
She turned on her heel, ignoring Jax and his questions, getting to work on Trae. The Rogue had made a mess of him, he had claw marks on his back and his side, but his stomach was worse. The marks there were deep and ugly.
Tempest flew around the room getting what she needed to clean up the wounds, instinctively knowing he'd need more than she could offer to help him. "Lukas, strip him down."
Lukas' head turned to her, "Are you sure that's what you want me to do?"
Tempest glanced at Jax, moved her eyes to Trae then back to Lukas. "Yes."
Lukas was actually looking a little pale, unsure if he should do as she asked. Tempest reached out and touched his arm. "This is on me, I'm the doctor and I called it." Lukas nodded and began stripping off Trae's clothing.
Seeing how badly Trae was wounded, Jax moved closer, "Jesus-H-Christ! Is he going to be all right?"
"Yes, if I have anything to do with it." She gave Lukas a knowing look then turned to Jax. "I need to speak with you about something."
"Don't you think you should be concentrating on him?" he indicated Trae with a nod of his head.
"Jax, I need you to listen to me and have an open mind. Most importantly I need you to stay calm and not to freak out. If I could do this any other way I would and you'd be none the wiser."
"Tempest what are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about monsters, things that go bump in the night." She sighed, "Actually I'm talking about things that howl at the moon."
"You've lost me."
"Do you trust me Jax?" he nodded. "No I need you to think about it. Do you trust me, really trust me?"
"Of course I do, but Trae..."
"I'll make sure he's okay. I just need you to have an open mind and not freak out. Okay?"
"Okay honey, now please go help the man."
Tempest spent several minutes cleaning up the wounds to assess how badly injured he was. She'd be right, he'd need more than her medical skills could give him. Looking at Lukas, she gave a slight nod before turning back to Trae. "Jax, you might want to take a few steps back."
Lukas grabbed Jax and physically moved him up against the wall. "Please, stay put." He went to Tempest, standing as close as he could in case he needed to move her away from Trae and to safety. An injured Were could be very, very dangerous, even to those they care about. "Okay Doc, it's up to you."
She looked up at him somewhat confused. "Me?"
He laughed, "Yeah Doc, you're the only Alpha here at the moment." He smiled and nudged her a little closer to show his confidence in her.
Tempest took several deep breathes, mostly to prevent herself from passing out in shock at what Lukas had said. She ran a hand over Trae's face, kissed his forehead then rested a hand on his shoulder. "Shift Trae." She spoke softly hoping Jax wouldn't hear and come closer.
Nothing happened, she tried again, "Shift Trae." Again nothing happened. She turned to Lukas.
"Doc you need to sound like you mean it. You're forcing him to do this, so make it sound that way. Be forceful. Okay?"
Tempest wasn't sure she had it in her, but Trae was her friend and at the moment he was her patient. She'd do whatever she needed to do to keep him safe. After taking several deep breathes she tried again. "Shift!" he moved almost as if he were in pain. Lukas gave her a nod letting her know she was doing fine.
Tempest could hear noises in the hallway and new this was the last chance she'd have. "Shift Trae! Do you hear me, I want you to Shift!"
Several things happened at the same time. Trae shifted into his wolf form, Jax gasped in shock and tried moving even closer to the wall he was leaning on and Wade barged his way into the room wearing an expression that said he was ready to kill. Tempest was fairly certain she was his target.
He took in the room, his eyes moving first to Trae to see how badly injured he was. He ran a hand over Trae's fur, bent down and whispered something into his ear. Trae should have rested easier with his Alpha there and although shifting helped, it did little to start the healing process.
He wasn't healing like he should be. Tempest wasn't about to lose him so she positioned one hand over Trae's heart, pushing gently. She ran her other hand over his fur, smoothing it out from head to tail, speaking soothing words to him, hoping she had enough to give so he'd heal.
Wade saw the strain on her face, her shaking arms and realised what she was doing, "Doc?"
"It's not enough, I can't hold him." Tears streamed down her face tearing at Wade's heart.
"Together then." He placed both hand on her shoulders so she could pull his energy, his life force and transfer it to Trae. He'd heard of Healers capable of doing this, that Tempest could and wasn't yet strong enough to save their friend pulled at him in a way that made him want to punch something... hard!
It took a full ten minutes of their joint efforts to pull Trae back to a safe place. Reluctantly Wade pulled away from them both, watching closely just in case she needed his support. He was surprised at the level of his relief, when minutes later she too pulled back from her patient to check his vitals.
When she was done, he took her arm, "Are you injured?" when she shook her head, he turned to Lukas and growled. Lukas being a sensible man lowered his head in deference to his Alpha. It was then he spotted Jax and his growl got louder.
"Stop it you'll scare him." Tempest pulled free of him, wiped her bloodied hand on one of the towels she'd used to clean Trae up and moved slowly towards Jax. "Do you remember when I told you to have an open mind and that you shouldn't freak out?" She pointed towards Trae. "This is why."
She waited for him to take in her words before continuing. "I'm pretty sure you've had suspicions. Now you know." She smiled softly trying to calm him. "For the moment Jax, I need you to remain calm. Mr Benning will be able to answer any questions you have and I'll help you understand as well."
Lukas approached with a chair and Tempest led Jax to it, crouching in front of him as he sat.
"I'm still me Jax and so is Trae. You've been a good friend, I'd hate to lose that. I'll check on Trae in a minute and if he's up to it, we'll go somewhere safe so we can talk." She saw a hint of fear in his eyes. "You'll be safe Jax, I give you my word on that." She looked to Wade for confirmation.
He sighed, ran a hand over his face in frustration. "You'll be safe Jax. I'm the Alpha here and my word is law, although it would seem our Doctor here doesn't seem to realise it."
Jax got to his feet, pulling Tempest to his side, while doing his best not to yell at the Alpha as Wade had called himself. He held her as close as he dared considering the look he was getting from Wade, but didn't let her go.
Tempest smiled softly, knowing Jax was being protective of her. "Mr Benning is a little grumpy at the moment." She gave his arm a squeeze, "I'm just going to go check on Trae. If he's up to it, we'll get going okay?" he nodded reluctantly letting go of her.
Tempest was tempted to stitch up the worst of Trae's wounds, but knew it wasn't necessary. She placed antiseptic cream on some gauze and bandaged them as best she could. When Trae shifted again he'd lose the bandages anyway.
Wade didn't move from Trae's side, "Is he going to okay?"
"Yes, thanks to you he'll be fine." Tempest reached out to Jax again, "Why don't you come to my office, I need to clean up and you can guard the door, make sure no one comes in."
Jax moved towards her, putting a protective arm around her shoulders as he led her out of the room. This gave him a purpose, a focus and Tempest knew he'd make damned sure no one came near her while she was cleaning up.
By the time they came back, Wade and Lukas had cleaned up the blood soaked towels and everything else. Trae was missing, and she looked to Wade, "Where is he?"
"We put him in my car. We also cleaned up the backseat of your car as best we could. I'll have someone go over it, do a better job tomorrow, or the next day. For now we should get going. Trae's going to need protein when he comes too and the closest place is The Den. I called ahead, Stephan's already preparing food for us."
Tempest gave him a curious look as if to say 'what about the dead guy and all the blood in the parking area'. Thankfully he picked up on that, giving her a half smile and nod letting her know everything had been cleaned up.
They headed out, Jax close to Tempest as if protecting her. As much as this grated on Wade's nerves, he realised Jax's actions were all that were keeping him together. He let it go, focusing on getting everyone to The Den without further interruptions.
Jax drove, insisting that Tempest come with him. Lukas took her car and Wade took the lead in his. Thankfully the parking area was deserted. They parked and made their way inside, Trae had woken up when the engine cut of and was ushered upstairs by a concerned Stephan. One of the waiters indicated that they were to go to the private room at the far end of the restaurant.
They were barely seated and platters of food were being placed on the table. There was enough to feed a small army. Another waiter asked what they wanted to drink and was back in minutes with their orders. Tempest was concerned about Trae, but was assured he'd be down shortly. That calmed her somewhat, but she kept looking towards to doorway waiting for him. As his doctor, his healer she needed to make sure he was healing.
"Doc," Lukas called to get her attention. "Trae needs raw protein, he wouldn't be happy if we made him eat it in front of you." He smiled, "He'll be fine you and Wade did a good job of fixing him."
She nodded and returned to her meal knowing Lukas was right. Jax seemed to be in shock and she couldn't blame him. What had happened, what he'd seen, it was a lot to take in. "Jax, you should eat something. Stephan is an excellent cook and I'm sure he'd like to know if you agree with me."
Jax nodded and suddenly realised that someone had put a plate of food in front of him. The steak was tender and cooked to perfection. The vegetables and the gravy were just as good and there was so much. He cocked an eyebrow at Wade, "You eat like this all the time?" Wade's answer was to grin and continue eating.
He looked to Tempest, realisation setting in, "All this time, every time we've gone out to eat you've gone home hungry? I'm sorry sweetie." He patted her hand.
Not knowing what to say to the man, Tempest gave his hand a squeeze and indicated his meal. For the next little while there was no talking, each person focusing on their meal. Tempest sipped her mineral water, still wondering if Trae was all right or not.
She came to her feet as one of the waiters brought in coffee and cake. Wade made a move as well, but she shook her head, "I just need to make sure Trae's healing. I'll be right back." He scowled, which annoyed her. "Save me a piece of cake Mr Benning."
Tempest moved towards the door, was surprised when the waiter stopped her but gave him to opportunity to explain himself. "You can use the door behind where Wade is sitting, it'll be quicker." She smiled and thanked him.
She found Trae in human form dosing on a bed in the room at the top of the stairs. Sitting beside him she made a move to check his pulse in his neck, but was stopped when his hand grabbed hers. "It tickles Doc." He sat up slowly, saw the concern on her face and smiled. "I'm okay Doc, honestly I just need a good night's sleep and I'll be fighting fit."
She frowned, "No more fighting, at least not for the next few days. I don't think my heart could take it." She smiled softly, felt her eyes tear up. "I was so afraid I was going to lose you. Don't ever frighten me like that again."
"I'll do my best Doc," he grinned then serioused up. "What happened, to the Rogue I mean?"
"We called in backup then I ignored what your Alpha said and used myself as bait so they could bring him down."
"You came out to me?"
"Yes. You are my friend and also my patient."
He laughed, "Yeah, I'm not sure that's going to stand when he pulls rank on you about ignoring what he told you." He shook his head, "You do know he's likely to yell loud enough that Murray will hear you from his kitchen." He shook his head, "You shouldn't have put yourself at risk."
"Like I said, you're my friend Trae. I've had few of them over the years, Were ones at least." She gave his hand a squeeze, "besides, he's my mate and if he yells too loud or too much I'm likely to tell him what he can do with the whole mating bond."
The look of surprise on Trae's face, at her words made her laugh. It wasn't long before he was laughing with her. "Okay, okay, I told Wade to save me a piece of cake. If there isn't enough for you we can share." She got to her feet waiting for Trae to get up, then both walked down stairs together.
They'd almost reached the bottom of the stairs when they heard Stephan's voice. "Alpha," he began sounding all official. "There is someone here to see you, a Mr Patrick Kincaid and his mate. He said he's been trying to see you the past few weeks, but he's been put off being told you were busy. He knows you're here insists on speaking with you. I believe he wants you to consider bringing them both into the Pack."
The colour drained from Tempests face, she knew her father wasn't an honourable man, but to take another mate with no concern for his current one. Unbelievable! Trae opened the door and stepped into the room first. "Wade, I think you two need to have a word."
They didn't need words, Wade took one look at Tempest and realised that the man outside didn't just happen to have to same surname as her, he was her father. He growled and she reached out without thinking to calm him.
"How do you want to deal with this Tempest?"
She looked up at him, her spine stiffening and anger rising. "I think you should listen to what the man has to say. I mean he's obviously looking for a new Pack. I'm sure he'll enlighten us as to where he comes from and why he wants to join your Pack." Wade nodded and returned to his seat.
Lukas and Trae stood in front of the doorway that Tempest was standing in, both to hide and protect her. When Wade was satisfied that she was out of sight he turned back to Stephan. "Show the man in."
A minute later Patrick Kincaid entered the room, a young woman by his side. She couldn't have been more than twenty four or twenty five. He had hold of her hand and seemed to be tugging her along. Once he was in a position where everyone could see them Kincaid gave the Alpha a slight bow of his head and prodded the woman ensuring she too bowed.
Wade did not like what he was seeing. That this man was standing before him with a mere child intending to make her his mate angered him. The fact that he was also his own mates' father and as far as he knew her mother – this man's mate was still alive and well, truly pissed him off.
"Speak!" was all he said. He'd let the man cut his own throat.
Kincaid smiled widely, "Alpha, my name is Patrick Kincaid, I wish to join your Pack. I have lived all over the country and now, after finding my mate I'd like to settle down and raise a family. I've had the opportunity to visit your territory many times over the years and I would truly like to call this my... that is to say our home."
Wade looked him over. He was a likeable looking man, but he scented lies, scented fear and hated the cockiness he showed, expecting that his request would be automatically granted. "What Pack do you come from?"
"As I've said I've lived all over the country..."
"Yes, yes, but what Pack do you belong to? I'm sure your Alpha would be interested to know that you want to leave his Pack and join mine."
His cockiness was faltering. He sighed, "I am currently part of Braedon Romanoff's Pack. I have discovered that I much prefer to live closer to the city and your Pack would be perfect for me."
"And your future mate? You haven't seen fit to introduce her or tell us anything about her. Is she your true mate?"
Kincaid became somewhat flustered, but answered the questions. "Her name is Amy Fisher, she is, for the most part Pack-less and no she is not my true mate. To be perfectly honest with you I'm inclined to believe that true mates are a myth. They're just stories we tell our children to give them something to believe in."
Wade ignored him for the moment, "Miss Fisher, how is it you came to be with Mr Kincaid?"
The poor girl looked terrified and when Kincaid tried to answer for her Wade growled his displeasure and waited. It took a few moments, but Amy took a step forward, lowered her head and spoke. "My Pack wanted to marry me off to some old man to help seal an alliance." She shook her head, "I didn't think that kind of thing still happened. When I refused to marry him my family threw me out, told me I was wasn't worth the trouble to feed me."
Wade leaned forward, "Why don't you take a seat Miss Fisher, you look a little tired." She sat and Wade glared at Kincaid when he moved to take a seat as well. "Go on, when you're ready."
Amy sat as straight as she could, she knew this interview was important and didn't want to make a mistake. "Patrick has been to our town off and on for many years. I practically grew up seeing him around the place. When he heard what had happened he told me he'd help me. He said he cared a great deal for me and that if I went with him he'd take care of me. Then I wouldn't have to fear being forced to mate with anyone."
Tears pricked her eyes, but she continued. "I'm only twenty; I'm not ready for a mate. He said he'd help me and now..." she sobbed. "Now he says I owe him, that I should be grateful that he'd even want me."
She wiped at her tears, took a deep breath and looked up at Wade for the first time. "He told me since I'd run away from my Pack I would be considered a Rogue. That now no decent man would want me."
It was becoming too much for Tempest, but she waited knowing Wade would be just as displeased as she was. She leaned into Trae's back clutching hold of his shirt for comfort. His scent calmed her and it took her a minute to realise why. He'd already accepted her as his female Alpha, he would do anything to protect her as would every other member of the Pack once they discovered what she was to Wade, to them.
Wade's face softened as he watched the girl. "You're not a Rogue little one, but you are homeless, a situation that can be easily remedied. What kind of work did you do in your Pack?"
"I assisted the healer; I trained as a nurse using my skills for the Pack. I was offered a position at our local hospital," she sighed and lowered her face. "I was told I couldn't take it, my first priority had to be the Pack. I had no choice. It was like I had no life of my own." She shook her head sadly.
Wade glared at Kincaid, "You lied to this young woman, told her she was a Rogue then manipulated her into believing she had no other choice but to be your mate." He shook his head; I wonder what your Alpha would have to say about your behaviour."
That was it, Tempest pushed between her two protectors, coming to a stop beside Wade, hands fisted on her hips, "I wonder what my mother would have to say about it. She is after all still your mate!"
"You! What the hell are you doing here; I thought I was rid of you."
"Don't worry father, I want nothing to do with you. But this young woman has a right to know what kind of man you are."
Amy came to her feet, turning to face Kincaid. "You already have a mate?"
Kincaid laughed, "She was no real mate. She couldn't even give me an heir. Instead I got this..." he indicated Tempest with a flip of his hand. "You're young, you'll be able to give me a son."
"Arsehole!" she all but screamed at him, "If you think I'm going agree to be with you just so I can give you a son, you're dreaming!" She hauled off and punched the man in the nose before remembering the Alpha was still there.
"Oh god, I'm so sorry Alpha." Amy sat down again, face in her hands as she sobbed.
Wade got to his feet, "You're wrong about true mates Mr Kincaid. Your own Alpha found his true mate, as did his brother Nicolas. I too have found my true mate and no, one or nothing is going to hurt her ever again." He pulled Tempest to his side. Without thinking she put an arm around his waist leaning in to him.
Kincaid was gobsmacked. He looked from Wade to Tempest to Amy and back again. "Does this mean you won't accept us into your Pack?"
Wade could see the hope in his eyes, "No Mr Kincaid, you will not now or ever become a part of my Pack. Amy however is more than welcome to stay." He turned to the girl. "You are more than welcome to join the Pack. I'm fairly certain Tempest will make use of your skills."
"But... but..." stuttered Kincaid.
Tempest sighed, she had little to no feelings left for her father, but he was her father. "I'll be speaking to both Braedon and Mother. I suggest you find some other Pack to join, I don't like the chances of you surviving what Mother's friends will do to you once they discover what kind of man you really are."
"You wouldn't do that, I'm your father."
Tempest laughed, "You have never been a father to me and to be honest I doubt you've ever treated Mother as your mate. Stay away from her or I'll make sure every contact I have learns what you've tried to do here today."
Wade ran a hand up and down her arm in comfort. "Find another Pack Mr Kincaid, but try to manipulate and use another woman and I'll make your life is hell. You called Miss Fisher a Rogue. That's exactly what you will become if you pull this kind of thing again. Do I make myself clear?"
For the first time in his life Kincaid was speechless, he gave a nod of his head and turned to leave without Amy. "Before you go," began Wade. "I want you to know it won't take long for word of Tempest being my mate to travel. I'll receive calls, emails and other means of congratulations. I'll make sure each and every Alpha knows that you travel a great deal and that I'd appreciate them keeping me posted as to your doings. You will be watched Mr Kincaid. Don't ever think you can get away with hurting someone else as you've done to Tempest, her mother or Amy."
Kincaid left the room without another word. Tempest had half expected him to play up the fact that she was the Alpha's mate, to use it to push up his status. She was relieved that he hadn't. Right now all she wanted was to speak with her Mother and explain what her father had tried to do.
Unfortunately that would have to wait. Jax suddenly came to life, no more shock, he was back to himself completely. "I was worried about you all, that you might cause problems... kill someone." He laughed remembering that from the state Trae had been in, they probably already had.
"What I just witnessed showed me you're no threat. You take care of your own, perhaps the manner in which you do it isn't always as civilised as I'd like, but what you just did for Tempest, for this young woman. He nodded his head unable to find the right words to convey what he was feeling.
Wade came to his feet, held out his hand to him, "If we can ever be of help to you in your position in the Police Force, all you have to do is ask."
Jax took his hand and they shook, "I might just take you up on that." Then suddenly his smile disappeared. "Jesus, Joseph and Mary!" his face lost all colour. "Braedon and Nicolas. Shit! Kasey and Chrissy are they, are they?"
"Take it easy Jax," Tempest spoke softly so as not to aggravate him. "Kasey and Chrissy are fine. Braedon and Nicolas would never do anything to hurt their mates."
"Are they, I mean can they be changed into... aww shit!" he ran a hand through his hair not sure how to phrase what he needed to know.
Tempest place a hand on his cheek, the other took his hand. "I'm still me Jax, you said you still trusted me. Kasey and Chrissy are still the same people, they are just a great deal stronger than they used to be."
He nodded gave Tempest a hug and moved towards to door. "Jax, don't do anything tonight, rest, think on it and if you have any questions call me. Please, call me before you do anything?"
Jax sighed, "I can't promise anything Tempest, but I'll go home and rest for now."
She knew it was the best she was going to get from him. Without asking Wade she searched out who was in the room. "Lukas," Tempest spoke softly, "Please see that he gets home in one peace?"
Without question, Lukas followed Jax, he'd do as his female Alpha asked and report back once the man was settled in his own home. The fact that he didn't question what she'd asked him to do kind of stunned Tempest and she unconsciously leaned further into Wade's side. As she looked up she noticed Amy sitting in her chair all but forgotten.
She pulled away from Wade not daring to look at him in case she caved. "I'm going home. I need sleep and time to think. Amy you're coming with me. Where are your belongings?"
"I've only got a small bag and a backpack. I left them just outside the door."
Trae moved forward, "I'm driving."
Tempest tried not to laugh. "Amy I'd like you to meet Trae, he's a Pack Enforcer, friend and general pain in my neck. He'll be Shadowing us until we get a few things sorted out."
Amy came to her feet, "Nice to meet you Trae."
He grinned sensing her nervousness, "It's nice to meet you too." He was halfway out the door when he called out over his shoulders, "Boss, I'll let you know when I'm bring the ladies to the Compound."
Wade shook his head, grabbed Tempest before she left, "We need to talk. I've pretty much announced who you are to the Pack. I'd like to make it official sooner rather than later."
Tempest leaned into his breathing in his scent. "I'll call you tomorrow and well work out when." She reached kissed his check and walked away from the man that was her mate.
