Chapter 51

Jeremy and Ritchie stop Chance on his way back to his table. The guys convince him to head back to the bar where they have Amos set up a couple shots of whiskey for each of them. Chance isn't refusing, he wants to numb himself at this point. The reminders of Mina,  the revelation how his father really felt and now this, whatever this was that was going on between his mother and his Dr.

Tim is watching Chance from the table while Heather is telling her mother about a few others that should be showing up soon. He excuses himself and heads towards the bar. He approaches Chance putting his arm on his shoulder, "he buddy what ya doin" he says to him.

"Hey Amos, set up a few for my friend Timmy" he says as he throws back another shot.

"No, I'm good but I will take another beer Amos," Tim tells him. He wants to keep a clear head tonight, just in case something happens.

Just then a tall blond walks in and heads straight over to Chance, covering his eyes from behind as she whispers something in his ear. Chance laughs, turns around grabbing the woman into a tight hug. "Girl, where the hell you been hiding" he says to her as she wraps her arms around his neck.

Tim looks at the blond, "damn she's beautiful " he thinks to himself as he looks her up and down until he sees she's noticed, his face reddens as she smiles at him.

She backs away from Chance as he turns to introduce her to Tim, and notices the look on his face. He smiles and says " Tim this is my very, very good friend Jenika. Jen this is my best friend, Tim Foust."

"Pleased to meet you Miss," Tim says to her. " Oh so polite and cute too" she responds as she winks at him.

Chance explains how he and Jenika had met while he was in Nashville with the guys from Street Corner and how she had been working as a nanny for some friends of his. "You should hear her play the violin. She's got a great voice too," he tells him.

Jeremy and Ritchie look at each other, snickering and head towards the instruments that the house band had set up on the stage. The drummer from the band joins them as Heather comes running over "Chance, come on the guys are going to play, you've got to get up there too. Come on!"

He looks at Tim, shrugs with a huge grin, downs another shot and heads for the stage. Heather whispers to Jenika, they giggle and run to a large box at the side of the stage. In the box were several costumes and wigs. They hand each of the guys old t-shirts of various rock bands and long wigs. They laugh, take the items and put them on. Each grabs an instrument, Ritchie took a guitar as did Chance and Jeremy set up the keyboard while Heather and Jenika put the microphones in front of them. The drummer tapped out a count as they began to play as the girls ran off the stage. Everyone in the bar ran out onto the floor as they began to sing I Believe In A Thing Called Love..laughing at their costumes and dancing to the music.

Tim remained sitting at the bar watching his friend playing lead guitar to the song, mimicking the gestures of a rock band. Tim grabs his phone and videos the performance. He had no idea Chance could play like that and wanted to be sure he showed it to Austin and the rest of the guys.

Chance and the guys rocked out to a few more songs then returned to the bar so the house band could take over for the rest of the night. Amos had a shot of whiskey and an ice cold beer waiting for each of them. A group of people had surrounded them and were telling them how awesome they were and buying them drinks. Tim was keeping an eye on Chance, knowing all to well just how this night was going to end for him.

Heather and Jenika had made their way back to the table and were talking with Maggie and Dr. Daniels.

"I think it's time we headed back home" Maggie said as she looked at Marcus.  Heather smiled and took her mother's and Marcus hands "I'm so glad you both came together".

Maggie's face reddens a bit, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Momma, it's ok. I've known for quite awhile that you two were seeing each other, " Heather tells her.

Maggie looks at Marcus in disbelief as if he had told her.  He shakes his head no to let her know he hadn't said a word.

"Momma, I've just known, that's all. I see the way you look at each other whenever you're together. I'm happy for you, both of you," she tells them.

" I'm not to sure your brother feels the same way" Maggie says looking at Chance sitting at the bar. "I saw his expression when we came in together. He didn't look very pleased".

"Momma, don't worry about what Chance thinks. What's important is that you're happy, that's all that matters" Heather says as she kisses her on the cheek.

Marcus puts Maggie's sweater across her shoulders, "Thank you Heather for understanding. Maggie are you ready?," he asks. "Give me a second while I say goodnight to Chance and Tim. I'll meet you by the door " she tells him.

Tim notices Maggie walking towards them and nudges Chance. He looks his way as Maggie taps him on the shoulder. Chance is obviously well on his way to being intoxicated but he remains respectful to his mother as she hugs him and says goodnight. He gives her a hug and a quick peck on the cheek thanking her for coming. "I love you and be careful going home," she tells him. He repeats the same to her as he wobbles a bit on the bar stool. Maggie leans over to Tim, "please take care of him and make sure he gets home safely. "Yes Ms. Maggie, I will" he assures her as she gives him a big hug. Chance swings his stool around and pounds down another shot as his mother turns and walks to the door leaving with Marcus. Heather heads over to the bar area with everyone else as the house band continues to play.
