Chapter 142
As Jenika walked back to her room she remembered the time Tim drove her back to her hotel after finding Chance. The way he had leaned into her hand as she had touched his face. It was her, Caroline, that he had imagined touching her. Now she understood the pain behind the sadness in his eyes. "How he must have loved her, hopefully she knew" she thought swiping the card to enter her room.
Rob knew it was late but he needed to see and hear Kelsey's voice. "Hey" she replied yawning "what's up, you ok" she asked him.
"Not really, sweetheart. I needed to see you, hear your voice and tell you I love you so much" he replied, obviously crying.
"Rob, what's wrong, why are you crying. Is it Chance" she asked, now completely awake.
Rob explained everything to her that had taken place over the last week and how Tim had revealed his past to them.
Kelsey began to cry as well, "Oh my God, how awful for him. I can't even begin to imagine what he's been through" she replied.
"I'm sorry I woke you Kels, I just...." his voice trailed off.
"I'm glad you did, sweetie" she replied, her heart breaking along with him, knowing they both were having the same thoughts if it had been them.
"How horrible" Ericha responded at the news Adam shared with her. "I don't know if I could have been that strong" she added.
"Neither do I, you and Cerise are my world. I don't know what I would do without you, I love you both so much. I'm so sorry I'm away from you, baby" he told her, his voice cracking.
"Adam, I understand. We agreed this would be your work and that we'd deal with the long months of separation. And we're doing that. Cerise isn't missing out on her daddy. She sees you every night, we both do. And when you come home our hearts swell even more with love for you" she assured him.
He then told her what Chris had said, "I don't know what to do. If we dissolve the group, then everyones livelihood suffers. Rob would have to go back to bartending, Austin would end up back on cruise ships and Tim, God knows what would happen to him. Ericha, I don't know what to do" he rambled to her.
"Adam...(he kept talking)..Adam" she said more sternly.
"Yeah, what...oh...I'm sorry..I just.." he stammered.
"Baby, it's all going to work out somehow. Try to get some rest" she told him as he heard the little voice in the background " is that daddy? Can I talk to him" she asked.
Ericha handed the phone to Cerise "hi daddy" she said sleepily.
"Baby girl, why are you up so late" he asked softly.
"I heard Mommy talking. Daddy don't woory, it be ok, I wuv you" she told him "kiss untle Tim for me, otay"
Adam smiled, "ok baby, I will. You go back to bed and be a good girl for Mommy, ok".
"I will daddy, night" she replied, giving the phone back to her mother. "Baby, I'll let you go now, thank you for listening to me" he told Ericha. "Always, love you, get some rest" she told him before disconnecting the call.
Tim stood out on the balcony, looking up at the star filled night sky. "Darlin, I got your message. I don't know how you knew I would be in this situation again in this lifetime. I'm scared...I'm scared to decide..I'm scared to lose him like I did you" he told her as a shooting star skipped across the horizon.
"You will do the right thing" he heard the voice whisper to him.
He gasped as he heard the voice. It was hers, it was Caroline's. "Darlin, can you hear me" he asked aloud just as there was a knock at the door. He listened for her answer. He heard nothing but the knock at the door.
Shaking his head, he opened it. There stood Austin, his eyes red and swollen from crying "Can I come in" he asked.
"Of course you can" he told him just as Austin grabbed him and sobbed, "I'm so sorry Timmy..so, so sorry".
Tim kicked the door shut and led Austin to the nearby chair. "Come in bud, sit down" he told him.
"You shouldn't have had to deal with that alone" Austin told him as Tim handed him a beer. "Drink this, it'll calm your nerves" Tim told him.
"I had to, I chose to Austin. It's not something you can share with others, it's private. I didn't want anyone's sympathy" he told him taking a large gulp of his beer.
"But...we're not just anyone...we're family" Austin replied, wiping his eyes.
"Which is why it was more important to concentrate on Chance than it was me" he told him. "And now I have to decide, again, what's best for someone else. It's not easy, Austin. I don't know what to do" he added.
"You'll do the right thing, Timmy. I know you will" he assured him.

Dr. Lynch checked Chance's reflexes and pupil responses. Still no change. "Mina, where is Tim. We can't keep him on this machine any longer. Time is up, the decision needs to be made. The sooner the better, there are people waiting for organ donations. Another week like this and the risk of infection triples. We need to be able to harvest the organs soon, while they are still viable" he stated.
Mina couldn't believe her ears. "Did he really just say that, harvest the organs. He's not a fucking garden for christ sake" she thought, staring at the doctor.
"I can't believe you, Steven. Where's your compassion. That family out there is hanging on by a thread, hoping for a miracle and all you can think about is cutting him up" she barked at him.
He looked at her sternly, "and you have lost your sense of reality. You're a doctor, a scientist. You know all to well how this ends. Seems you would not want his death to be in vain and would welcome the chance to save 3, 4 maybe even 5 other people's lives. Damn it Mina, it's time to let go, You need to let go."
"Just because we're no longer together doesn't mean I don't care about him or them. They were a big part of my life for 7 years, we were engaged to be married. Why can't you understand" she stated with anger.
"I do understand, Mina. But you're letting your emotions get in the way of reality. He's not there, he's not alive, the machines are breathing for him. What kind of life would that be. Would he truly want to be kept alive by a machine?" he asked walking towards her.
Mina hung her head as tears welled in her eyes. No this is not what he would want, she knew that. As a doctor it made sense but that didn't make saying goodbye forever any easier.
Steven put his arms around her "I'm not saying this out of jealousy, Jasmina. I know you once loved him. I'm just saying, for everyone, it's time to let him be at peace. It's time for closure, for all of you" he said quietly, pulling her close as she began to cry.
