Chapter 139

"We have to show him what the future holds, regardless if he decides to return or not" she told him.

"I can't bear to see him stay in between, we both know it isn't pleasant, so much pain and heartache. He's stubborn.." he told her.

She laughed lightly " Gee, I wonder where he gets that from".

"Oh hush" he laughed as Chance approached them.

"You two seem quite happy" he remarked.

"Son, we neeed to talk" he told him.

"Haven't we talked enough already" Chance replied as he began to step away.

"Come with me, I want you to see something" she requested.

"You've shown me already. I get it. They all have been through alot. But that's why I should stay here. They won't go through anymore pain because of me if I simply stay here. In a few months they will forget it all anyway" Chance retorted.

"Adam" he stated sternly causing Chance to stop. "They are not the only reason you need to go back, you need to go back for you. You have not come to terms with your loss."

Chance turned, "You're wrong. You left, you had no choice, I get it" he replied, slightly angered.

"And did you forget it in a few months? No, you've hated me for years. You thought I didn't care, that I wasn't proud of you. You found out the truth when you went home to tell your mother" he told him. "Why do you think I'm here, in between. Because of you. It's my last unfinished business before I can finally cross over. I've been with you every step of the way, leading you back to learn the truth" he added.

Chance stood there silently staring at him. "If you led me to the truth, then your job is done" he retorted.

"Not until you accept your loss " he replied.

"Ok, I accept it. There, satisfied?" Chance stated.

"Damn it Adam, stop being so damn stubborn for once in your life" he stated. "Will you talk some sense into him" he told her.

"It's not that simple, Chance. We are here because those who loved us have not been able to accept their loss, to let go, to move on. Until they do, our job is to guide them to situations that are specific to bring acceptance" she told him.

"I'm confused more than ever " Chance replied.

"He led you to your childhood home, to the photos, the truck, to trigger memories so that when your mother told you how much he really cared about you, you would be able to understand, to grieve properly and accept your loss" she explained.

Chance thought for a moment. He had to admit all of that had given him a better understanding of how he expressed his love towards him. It was different but it was real.

"Ok, I guess that makes sense. But what about Tim, who is guiding him and why me. How are we connected" he asked.

"Think back, the images that were brought before you. What do you remember " she asked.

He thought for a moment, nothing was really clear until he remembered the image of the hand signing the papers. He looked at her "The comments, remarks, the drinking binges, you're.....?"

Chris had contacted Adam for an update on Chance. "It's the same, no change" he told him. "You know, you're going to need to make a decision whether to keep the group going or let it go along with him " Chris stated. "I need to know. I can't fill in forever. I've got my own success to work with, ya know "

Adam couldn't believe what he was hearing. But then again, he could. In a way Chris was right, at least about keeping the group going, but he wasn't ready to let go of it or Chance.

"You just go about making your career happen. We'll be fine, we don't need you and I sure as hell am not giving up on either the group or Chance" he told him sternly before disconnecting the call.

Adam called Rob, Austin, Nate and Jenika to meet in his room. He needed to let them know about Chris and to the discuss the future of the group. He hated to do it but he needed to make a decision without Tim, and soon.

Once everyone was in his room he advised them of Chris' response. "Damn, so much for keeping your promise to a dieing man" Austin commented. "So now what are we going to do" Rob asked. "That's why I called you all here" Adam replied.

Tim stared at the letter in disbelief.  Who sent it, how.....

"Nooooo" he yelled, swiping everything off the table before heading out back, slamming the door. He ran past the carriage house, into the vast fields behind it. He ran till he could run no longer, leaning against the huge oak tree he pounded his fist against the trunk, sobbing and yelling her name, asking why over and over until he finally collapsed from exhaustion.
