Chapter 106
"I asked you out here for a reason" Chance told Tim as he turned back towards the bench. He pulled out the yellow envelope he had been given the day he met with Chris on the pier. Tim walked over and sat beside him as he handed the envelope to him.
"Open it" he told Tim.
With a raised brow, he opened it and reached inside pulling out several documents including bank books and a set of keys. "What is all this?" Tim asked.
"Tim, you are the closest I've ever come to having a brother. You have taken care of me at my worst, laughed with me at my best.." Chance began.
"You're not asking me to marry you, are you" Tim interrupted with a chuckle.
"Shut up will ya...I'm being serious here" Chance replied. Refraining from any more teasing Tim told him to proceed.
As he took the bank books he explained which ones had been set up for his mother and Heather so that they would both be taken care of in the event anything happened to him. Another was for his funeral expenses with a detailed document as to exactly where it was to take place and where he wanted his remains taken. Also in the documents was a letter for Jasmina that was to be given to her after his death, if anyone could locate her.
Tim just sat there looking at everything, then at Chance, listening intently with fear growing more by the moment. "The keys are for my el camino. I want you to have it" Chance stated as he handed everything to Tim.
"No, no" Tim shook his head at what he was hearing "I am not taking your car and there is no reason for you to be giving this stuff to me to handle for you. I'm not family, at the least you should give this to Dr. Daniels."
"Tim, you are my family. I trust you with my life. I trust you with making sure the rest of my family has what I wanted for them when I'm gone" Chance told him as he placed his hand on Tim's shoulder "If it weren't for you, I don't know where I would be right now. Please promise me you will take care of this if and when the time comes, please."
Tim looked at Chance, he could see the fear in his eyes and the pleading to help. He had vowed a long time ago he would, no matter what, he just didn't realize it would come so quickly."
"Ok" Tim quietly responded "I'll do whatever you need me to".
"Thank you. Um...there's one more thing" Chance began as he took out another document from the envelope. "This is giving you power of attorney to legally handle my affairs, any hospital stays, medical permission, etc."
"What? Chance you can't be serious that you want me to make medical treatment permission on your behalf" Tim questioned.
"Like I said, I trust you with my life, Tim. I know you will do what's best for me. I have filled out a living will of sorts that will help guide you should it come to that. All you need to do is sign it with me in front of a notary" Chance stated.
Tim brushed his hands through his hair, memories from his past began to flood his mind. He stared at the ground for a moment until Chance's voice brought him back to reality "So, can I count on you for this?" he asked as his voice cracked.
Tim's eyes were filled with tears "Yes, yes you can" he answered.
"Thank you, Tim. I know it's a lot to ask, but I appreciate it more than you will ever know" Chance told him as he placed everything back into the envelope and handed it to Tim.
"Come, we better head back, it's almost time for sound check" Chance said as he stood wiping his own tears from his eyes. Tim stood as well nodding his head still trying to comprehend everything that was being entrusted to him.
