|03|Chapter Three
The address Zane had given me was a ship. Not just any kind of ship, but a flying ship. I had asked mom if I could go, and she said yes. And then she handed me my "special" hat. Actually, all my hats were considered "special." Anything technology could withstand my powers of telepathy. Tin foil. It was the same thing with aliens. Tin Foil on someone's head prevented me from reading their mind. Tin Foil on my head prevented me from reading anyone's thoughts.
I wanted to be Tin Foiled for one reason. I wanted to make friends with Zane. And my mother understood the reason behind it. Which leads me to staring in awe of this flying ship. And how did I know it wad flying? It was in the air. And it had rocket boosters.
"[Y/N]." I heard Zane say. I turned around to see him walking up to me with bags in his arms. Groceries by the look of it. "What are you doing out here?"
"The ship. I was... admiring it." I explained only hesistating because I couldn't remember the word.
"Most people do. Come on inside. We can get started on the project." Zane said gesturing me to get up the rope ladder (with a bag of groceries I had taken from Zane to help him get up the ladder).
We finally reached the top and I helped Zane to his feet to which he thanked me. He didn't need to thank me. I will always help. He lead me to the kitchen where he began to put away the groceries.
"So, I was thinking, we're supposed to find a period in history, write a story about it, and create a boardgame. I vote for sixteenth century England." I said pulling a chair to sit at the counter.
"It's your call, [Y/N]." He said putting away some fish into the freezer (that is where it goes right?).
He didn't say anything about the hat or me being me. He just kept on putting away the groceries. When he was done, that's when he noticed my hat.
"What's with the hat?" He asked.
"I like said hat, so I'm wearing it." I told him.
"Wouldn't you feel more comfortable if you took it off?" No. It makes me.more comfortable.
"I guess. But I would like to keep it-." The platinum haired boy took off my hat.
Mixtures of voices tore through my mind, and I couldn't pinpoint which one was his. And then I heard blue voices. Voices like I was looking at a script and the spoken person was in blue ink. I turned around to see the ginger haired boy I knew as Jay. With him was the blondie called Lloyd and the girl named Nya.
I tore the hat from his clutches putting it back on. The voices went away, and I was at peace.
"Hi, [Y/N]." Lloyd greeted me.
We had Drama class together. And man could the kid act. Whenever we did exercises, we were both paired up. The son of Lord Garmadon and the Telepathic freak? Perfect pairing.
"You're the telepath girl right?" Jay said before Nya elbowed him in the side.
I turned away from him. "Jay!" Lloyd scolded him.
Wait a second. They live together? Why the hell would they need to live together?
"So, are you going to read my mind?" Jay asked me.
I was taken aback for a moment.
"Actually, I don't think that's a good idea, Jay." Nya said (I knew her from Pre-Calc).
"Yeah, we shouldn't ask her to read our minds. It's impolite."
"Well, I wouldn't be able to." I took my hat up to show them the tin foil. "Tin Foil blocks my ability to read minds."
"That's why you brought the hat." Zane said now realizing what my hat meant to me.
"Well, do you have any other weaknesses?" Jay asked (which I don't understand).
"I can only read minds of organic beings. I can't read the mind of anything behind a piece of metal, technology, or someone with a mental block." I explained.
It was then I noticed how the four of them shared a look. I had no idea what the look was about, but I didn't dwell on it. I wish I had.
